2023-08-07ASoC: rt711: enable pm_runtime in probe, keep status as 'suspended'Pierre-Louis Bossart1-13/+27
In stress cases involving module insertion/removal followed by playback/capture, it can happen that capture/playback is started before the codec enumeration completes. The codec driver registers its components with the ASoC framework during the probe stage, so there is currently no way for the card creation to wait for the codec enumeration/initialization to complete. In addition, when the capture/playback starts, the ASoC framework uses pm_runtime_get_sync() to properly refcount and power-manage devices. This is problematic in the SoundWire case because pm_runtime is enabled during the enumeration/initialization stage, so pm_runtime_get_sync() will return -EACCESS which is ignored. Additional errors will happen when setting the pm_runtime status as 'active' because the parent is not properly resumed, resulting in an error such as: "rt711 sdw:0:025d:0711:00: runtime PM trying to activate child device sdw:0:025d:0711:00 but parent (sdw-master-0) is not active" This patch suggests enabling pm_runtime during the probe, but marking the device as 'active' only after it is enumerated. That will force a dependency between the card and the codec, pm_runtime_get_sync() will have to wait for the codec device to resume and hence implicitly wait for the enumeration/initialization to be completed. In the nominal case where the codec device is already active the get_sync() would only perform a ref-count increase. 2023-08-07ASoC: SoundWire codecs: make regmap cache-only in probePierre-Louis Bossart1-3/+4
The SoundWire bus may start after the probe where the SoundWire ASoC components are registered. This creates a time window where the card can be created and the registers be accessed. As discussed on the mailing list, we can't really control when codecs are enumerated and initialized, but we can make sure the access to the codecs is cached until the hardware is accessible. This patch configures regcache_cache_only() with a 'true' parameter in the probe function, and a 'false' parameter in the io_init routine. The rt5682 is handled through a different patch due to its specific cache handling. Using a dynamic allocation to store a single pointer is not very efficient/useful. Worse, the memory is released in the SoundWire stream.c file, but still accessed in the DAI shutdown, leading to kmemleak reports. And last the API requires the previous stream information to be cleared when the argument is NULL. Simplify the code to address all 3 problems. 2022-06-07ASoC: codecs: rt700/rt711/rt711-sdca: resume bus/codec in .set_jack_detectPierre-Louis Bossart1-11/+13
The .set_jack_detect() codec component callback is invoked during card registration, which happens when the machine driver is probed. The issue is that this callback can race with the bus suspend/resume, and IO timeouts can happen. This can be reproduced very easily if the machine driver is 'blacklisted' and manually probed after the bus suspends. The bus and codec need to be re-initialized using pm_runtime helpers. Previous contributions tried to make sure accesses to the bus during the .set_jack_detect() component callback only happen when the bus is active. This was done by changing the regcache status on a component remove. This is however a layering violation, the regcache status should only be modified on device probe, suspend and resume. The component probe/remove should not modify how the device regcache is handled. This solution also didn't handle all the possible race conditions, and the RT700 headset codec was not handled. This patch tries to resume the codec device before handling the jack initializations. In case the codec has not yet been initialized, pm_runtime may not be enabled yet, so we don't squelch the -EACCES error code and only stop the jack information. When the codec reports as attached, the jack initialization will proceed as usual. 2022-04-07ASoC: rt711/5682: check if bus is active before deferred jack detectionPierre-Louis Bossart1-0/+7
This patch takes a defensive programming and paranoid approach in case the parent device (SoundWire) is pm_runtime resumed but the rt711 device is not. In that case, during the attachment and initialization, a jack detection workqueue can be scheduled. Since the pm_runtime suspend routines will not be invoked, the sequence to cancel all deferred work is not executed, and the jack detection could happen after the bus stops operating, leading to a timeout. This patch applies the same solution to rt5682, based on the similarities between codec drivers. The race condition with rt5682 was not detected experimentally though. The HDAudio ASoC support relies on the set_tdm_slots() helper to store the HDaudio stream tag in the tx_mask. This only works because of the pre-existing order in soc-pcm.c, where the hw_params() is handled for codec_dais *before* cpu_dais. When the order is reversed, the stream_tag is used as a mask in the codec fixup functions: /* fixup params based on TDM slot masks */ if (substream->stream == SNDRV_PCM_STREAM_PLAYBACK && codec_dai->tx_mask) soc_pcm_codec_params_fixup(&codec_params, codec_dai->tx_mask); As a result of this confusion, the codec_params_fixup() ends-up generating bad channel masks, depending on what stream_tag was allocated. We could add a flag to state that the tx_mask is really not a mask, but it would be quite ugly to persist in overloading concepts. Instead, this patch suggests a more generic get/set 'stream' API based on the existing model for SoundWire. We can expand the concept to store 'stream' opaque information that is specific to different DAI types. In the case of HDAudio DAIs, we only need to store a stream tag as an unsigned char pointer. The TDM rx_ and tx_masks should really only be used to store masks. Rename get_sdw_stream/set_sdw_stream callbacks and helpers as get_stream/set_stream. No functionality change beyond the rename. 2021-06-21ASoC: rt711-sdw: fix race condition on system suspendPierre-Louis Bossart1-0/+4
In previous commits we cancelled deferred work, but there is still a window of time where a new interrupt could result in new deferred work executed after the link is disabled, leading to an IO error. While we did not see this IO error on RT711-based platforms, the code pattern is similar to the RT700 case where the IO error was noted, so the fix is added for consistency. This patch uses an 'disable_irq_lock' mutex to prevent new interrupts from happening after the start of the system suspend. The choice of a mutex v. a spinlock is mainly due to the time required to clear interrupts, which requires a command to be transmitted by the SoundWire host IP and acknowledged with an interrupt. The 'interrupt_callback' routine is also not meant to be called from an interrupt context. An additional 'disable_irq' flag prevents race conditions where the status changes before the interrupts are disabled, but the workqueue handling status changes is scheduled after the completion of the system suspend. On resume the interrupts are re-enabled already by the io_init routine so we only clear the flag. A new control layer registration is introduced which allows to run additional operations on top of the elementary ALSA sound controls. A new control access group (three bits in the access flags) was introduced to carry the LED group information for the sound controls. The low-level sound drivers can just mark those controls using this access group. This information is not exported to the user space, but user space can manage the LED sound control associations through sysfs (last patch) per Mark's request. It makes things fully configurable in the kernel and user space (UCM). The actual state ('route') evaluation is really easy (the minimal value check for all channels / controls / cards). If there's more complicated logic for a given hardware, the card driver may eventually export a new read-only sound control for the LED group and do the logic itself. The new LED trigger control code is completely separated and possibly optional (there's no symbol dependency). The full code separation allows eventually to move this LED trigger control to the user space in future.
