Instead of clearing the bss area in assembly code, use the clear_bss()
function.
This requires to pass the start_info address as parameter to
xen_start_kernel() in order to avoid the xen_start_info being zeroed
again.

With binutils 2.26, RESERVE_BRK() causes a build failure:

The problem is this line:
RESERVE_BRK(early_pgt_alloc, INIT_PGT_BUF_SIZE)
Specifically, the INIT_PGT_BUF_SIZE macro which (via PAGE_SIZE's use
_AC()) has a "1UL", which makes older versions of the assembler unhappy.
Unfortunately the _AC() macro doesn't work for inline asm.
Inline asm was only needed here to convince the toolchain to add the
STT_NOBITS flag. However, if a C variable is placed in a section whose
name is prefixed with ".bss", GCC and Clang automatically set
STT_NOBITS. In fact, ".bss..page_aligned" already relies on this trick.
So fix the build failure (and simplify the macro) by allocating the
variable in C.
Also, add NOLOAD to the ".brk" output section clause in the linker
script. This is a failsafe in case the ".bss" prefix magic trick ever
stops working somehow. If there's a section type mismatch, the GNU
linker will force the ".brk" output section to be STT_NOBITS. The LLVM
linker will fail with a "section type mismatch" error.
Note this also changes the name of the variable from .brk.##name to
__brk_##name. The variable names aren't actually used anywhere, so it's
harmless.

RESERVE_BRK() reserves data in the .brk_reservation section. The data
is initialized to zero, like BSS, so the macro specifies 'nobits' to
prevent the data from taking up space in the vmlinux binary. The only
way to get the compiler to do that (without putting the variable in .bss
proper) is to use inline asm.
The macro also has a hack which encloses the inline asm in a discarded
function, which allows the size to be passed (global inline asm doesn't
allow inputs).
Remove the need for the discarded function hack by just stringifying the
size rather than supplying it as an input to the inline asm.

Due to
103a4908ad4d ("x86/head/64: Disable stack protection for head$(BITS).o")
kernel/head{32,64}.c are compiled with -fno-stack-protector to allow
a call to set_bringup_idt_handler(), which would otherwise have stack
protection enabled with CONFIG_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG.
While sufficient for that case, there may still be issues with calls to
any external functions that were compiled with stack protection enabled
that in-turn make stack-protected calls, or if the exception handlers
set up by set_bringup_idt_handler() make calls to stack-protected
functions.
Subsequent patches for SEV-SNP CPUID validation support will introduce
both such cases. Attempting to disable stack protection for everything
in scope to address that is prohibitive since much of the code, like the
SEV-ES #VC handler, is shared code that remains in use after boot and
could benefit from having stack protection enabled. Attempting to inline
calls is brittle and can quickly balloon out to library/helper code
where that's not really an option.
Instead, re-enable stack protection for head32.c/head64.c, and make the
appropriate changes to ensure the segment used for the stack canary is
initialized in advance of any stack-protected C calls.
For head64.c:
- The BSP will enter from startup_64() and call into C code
(startup_64_setup_env()) shortly after setting up the stack, which
may result in calls to stack-protected code. Set up %gs early to allow
for this safely.
- APs will enter from secondary_startup_64*(), and %gs will be set up
soon after. There is one call to C code prior to %gs being setup
(__startup_secondary_64()), but it is only to fetch 'sme_me_mask'
global, so just load 'sme_me_mask' directly instead, and remove the
now-unused __startup_secondary_64() function.
For head32.c:
- BSPs/APs will set %fs to __BOOT_DS prior to any C calls. In recent
kernels, the compiler is configured to access the stack canary at
%fs:__stack_chk_guard [1], which overlaps with the initial per-cpu
'__stack_chk_guard' variable in the initial/"master" .data..percpu
area. This is sufficient to allow access to the canary for use
during initial startup, so no changes are needed there.

Having ENDBR in discarded sections can easily lead to relocations into
discarded sections which the linkers aren't really fond of. Objtool
also shouldn't generate them, but why tempt fate.

Use a more generic form for __section that requires quotes to avoid
complications with clang and gcc differences.
Remove the quote operator # from compiler_attributes.h __section macro.
Convert all unquoted __section(foo) uses to quoted __section("foo").
Also convert __attribute__((section("foo"))) uses to __section("foo")
even if the __attribute__ has multiple list entry forms.

Add a separate bringup IDT for the CPU bringup code that will be used
until the kernel switches to the idt_table. There are two reasons for a
separate IDT:
1) When the idt_table is set up and the secondary CPUs are
booted, it contains entries (e.g. IST entries) which
require certain CPU state to be set up. This includes a
working TSS (for IST), MSR_GS_BASE (for stack protector) or
CR4.FSGSBASE (for paranoid_entry) path. By using a
dedicated IDT for early boot this state need not to be set
up early.
2) The idt_table is static to idt.c, so any function
using/modifying must be in idt.c too. That means that all
compiler driven instrumentation like tracing or KASAN is
also active in this code. But during early CPU bringup the
environment is not set up for this instrumentation to work
correctly.
To avoid all of these hassles and make early exception handling robust,
use a dedicated bringup IDT.
The IDT is loaded two times, first on the boot CPU while the kernel is
still running on direct mapped addresses, and again later after the
switch to kernel addresses has happened. The second IDT load happens on
the boot and secondary CPUs.

Handling exceptions during boot requires a working GDT. The kernel GDT
can't be used on the direct mapping, so load a startup GDT and setup
segments.

There are three cases for the trampoline initialization:
* 32-bit does nothing
* 64-bit with kaslr disabled simply copies a PGD entry from the direct map
to the trampoline PGD
* 64-bit with kaslr enabled maps the real mode trampoline at PUD level
These cases are currently differentiated by a bunch of ifdefs inside
asm/include/pgtable.h and the case of 64-bits with kaslr on uses
pgd_index() helper.
Replacing the ifdefs with a static function in arch/x86/mm/init.c gives
clearer code and allows moving pgd_index() to the generic implementation
in include/linux/pgtable.h

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

We're about to amend ACPI bus scan with DMI checks whether we're running
on a Mac to support Apple device properties in AML. The DMI checks are
performed for every single device, adding overhead for everything x86
that isn't Apple, which is the majority. Rafael and Andy therefore
request to perform the DMI match only once and cache the result.
Outside of ACPI various other Apple DMI checks exist and it seems
reasonable to use the cached value there as well. Rafael, Andy and
Darren suggest performing the DMI check in arch code and making it
available with a header in include/linux/platform_data/x86/.
To this end, add early_platform_quirks() to arch/x86/kernel/quirks.c
to perform the DMI check and invoke it from setup_arch(). Switch over
all existing Apple DMI checks, thereby fixing two deficiencies:
* They are now #defined to false on non-x86 arches and can thus be
optimized away if they're located in cross-arch code.
* Some of them only match "Apple Inc." but not "Apple Computer, Inc.",
which is used by BIOSes released between January 2006 (when the first
x86 Macs started shipping) and January 2007 (when the company name
changed upon introduction of the iPhone).

be used in anything referenced from ptrace.h, which is a mess.

Fix that by making setup.h self-sufficient by explicitly including

Offset that has been chosen for kaslr during kernel decompression can be
easily computed as a difference between _text and __START_KERNEL. We are
already making use of this in dump_kernel_offset() notifier and in
arch_crash_save_vmcoreinfo().
Introduce kaslr_offset() that makes this computation instead of hard-coding
it, so that other kernel code (such as live patching) can make use of it.
Also convert existing users to make use of it.
This patch is equivalent transofrmation without any effects on the resulting
code:

made module base address randomization unconditional and didn't regard
disabled KKASLR due to CONFIG_HIBERNATION and command line option
"nokaslr". For more info see (now reverted) commit:

In order to propagate KASLR status to kernel proper, we need a single bit
in boot_params.hdr.loadflags and we've chosen bit 1 thus leaving the
top-down allocated bits for bits supposed to be used by the bootloader.

The IRET instruction, when returning to a 16-bit segment, only
restores the bottom 16 bits of the user space stack pointer. This
causes some 16-bit software to break, but it also leaks kernel state
to user space. We have a software workaround for that ("espfix") for
the 32-bit kernel, but it relies on a nonzero stack segment base which
is not available in 64-bit mode.
In checkin:
b3b42ac2cbae x86-64, modify_ldt: Ban 16-bit segments on 64-bit kernels
we "solved" this by forbidding 16-bit segments on 64-bit kernels, with
the logic that 16-bit support is crippled on 64-bit kernels anyway (no
V86 support), but it turns out that people are doing stuff like
running old Win16 binaries under Wine and expect it to work.
This works around this by creating percpu "ministacks", each of which
is mapped 2^16 times 64K apart. When we detect that the return SS is
on the LDT, we copy the IRET frame to the ministack and use the
relevant alias to return to userspace. The ministacks are mapped
readonly, so if IRET faults we promote #GP to #DF which is an IST
vector and thus has its own stack; we then do the fixup in the #DF
handler.
(Making #GP an IST exception would make the msr_safe functions unsafe
in NMI/MC context, and quite possibly have other effects.)

The ramdisk can possibly get relocated if the whole image is not mapped.
And since we're going over it in the microcode loader and fishing out
the relevant microcode patches, we want access it at its new location.
Thus, export it.

mrst is used as common name to represent all intel_mid type
soc's. But moorsetwon is just one of the intel_mid soc. So
renamed them to use intel_mid.
This patch mainly renames the variables and related
functions that uses *mrst* prefix with *intel_mid*.
To ensure that there are no functional changes, I have compared
the objdump of related files before and after rename and found
the only difference is symbol and name changes.

The section called .discard.text has tracing attached to it and is
currently ignored by ftrace. But it does include a call to the mcount
stub. Adding a notrace to the code keeps gcc from adding the useless
mcount caller to it.

The isci driver needs to retrieve its preboot OROM image which contains
necessary runtime parameters like platform specific sas addresses and
phy configuration. There is no ROM BAR associated with this area,
instead we will need to scan legacy expansion ROM space.
1/ Promote the probe_roms_32 implementation to x86-64
2/ Add a facility to find and map an adapter rom by pci device (according to
PCI Firmware Specification Revision 3.0)

gcc 4.4.4 will complain if you use a .discard section for both text and
data ("causes a section type conflict"). Add support for ".discard.*"
sections, and use .discard.text for a dummy function in the x86
RESERVE_BRK() macro.

The PCI initialization in pci_subsys_init() is a mess. pci_numaq_init,
pci_acpi_init, pci_visws_init and pci_legacy_init are called and each
implementation checks and eventually modifies the global variable
pcibios_scanned.
x86_init functions allow us to do this more elegant. The pci.init
function pointer is preset to pci_legacy_init. numaq, acpi and visws
can modify the pointer in their early setup functions. The functions
return 0 when they did the full initialization including bus scan. A
non zero return value indicates that pci_legacy_init needs to be
called either because the selected function failed or wants the
generic bus scan in pci_legacy_init to happen (e.g. visws).

Moorestown MID devices need to be detected early in the boot process
to setup and do not call x86_default_early_setup as there is no EBDA
region to reserve.

The timer init code is convoluted with several quirks and the paravirt
timer chooser. Figuring out which code path is actually taken is not
for the faint hearted.
Move the numaq TSC quirk to tsc_pre_init x86_init_ops function and
replace the paravirt time chooser and the remaining x86 quirk with a
simple x86_init_ops function.

irq_init is overridden by x86_quirks and by paravirts. Unify the whole
mess and make it an unconditional x86_init_ops function which defaults
to the standard function and can be overridden by the early platform
code.

The x86 quirkification introduced an extra ugly hackery with a
variable pointer in the mpparse code. If the pointer is initialized
then it is dereferenced and the variable set to 0 or incremented.
Create a x86_init_ops function and let the affected numaq code
hold the function. Default init is a setup noop.
