This enables qemu -cpu help to return a list of supported CPU models on s390 and also to query for cpu definitions in the monitor. Initially only cpu model = host is returned. This needs to be reworked into a full-fledged CPU model handling later on. This change is needed to allow libvirt exploiters (like OpenStack) to specify a CPU model. 2013-01-15Make default boot order machine specificAvik Sil1-0/+1
This patch makes default boot order machine specific instead of set globally. The default boot order can be set per machine in QEMUMachine boot_order. This also allows a machine to receive a NULL boot order when -boot isn't used and take an appropriate action accordingly. This helps machine boots from the devices as set in guest's non-volatile memory location in case no boot order is provided by the user. Move public headers to include/net, and leave private headers in net/. Put the virtio headers in include/net/tap.h, removing the multiple copies that existed. 2012-12-11Support default block interfaces per QEMUMachineChristian Borntraeger1-15/+2
There are QEMUMachines that have neither IF_IDE nor IF_SCSI as a default/standard interface to their block devices / drives. Therefore, this patch introduces a new field default_block_type per QEMUMachine struct. The prior use_scsi field becomes thereby obsolete and is replaced through .default_block_type = IF_SCSI. This patch also changes the default for s390x to IF_VIRTIO and removes an early hack that converts IF_IDE drives. Other parties have already claimed interest (e.g. IF_SD for exynos) To create a sane default, for machines that dont specify a default_block_type, this patch makes IF_IDE = 0 and IF_NONE = 1. I checked all users of IF_NONE (blockdev.c and ww/device-hotplug.c) as well as IF_IDE and it seems that it is ok to change the defines - in other words, I found no obvious (to me) assumption in the code regarding IF_NONE==0. IF_NONE is only set if there is an explicit if=none. Without if=* the interface becomes IF_DEFAULT. I would suggest to have some additional care, e.g. by letting this patch sit some days in the block tree. The global variable 'ram_size' is hidden by the local variable declaration in s390_init(). Several SCLP features are considered to be events. Those events don't provide SCLP commands on their own, instead they are all based on Read Event Data, Write Event Data, Write Event Mask and the service interrupt. Follow-on patches will provide SCLP's Signal Quiesce (via system_powerdown) and the ASCII console. Further down the road the sclp line mode console and configuration change events (e.g. cpu hotplug) can be implemented. target_phys_addr_t is unwieldly, violates the C standard (_t suffixes are reserved) and its purpose doesn't match the name (most target_phys_addr_t addresses are not target specific). This should help us to: - More easily add or remove machine initialization arguments without having to change every single machine init function; - More easily make mechanical changes involving the machine init functions in the future; - Let machine initialization forward the init arguments to other functions more easily. This change was half-mechanical process: first the struct was added with the local ram_size, boot_device, kernel_*, initrd_*, and cpu_model local variable initialization to all functions. 2012-03-05s390: Rework kernel loading: supports elf and newer kernelsChristian Borntraeger1-12/+18
This reworks the image loading on s390. Newer kernels will not always have a 0dd0 (basr 13,0) at address 0x10000. We must not rely on specific code at certain addresses. This check was introduced to warn users that tried to load vmlinux, since ELF loading was not supported. Lets wire that up. If elf loading fails, we assume that this is a standard kernel image and load that via load_image_targphys. This patch also changes all other users of load_image to load_image_targphys to be consistent. (the elf loader registers the kernel as rom). Currently creating a memory region automatically registers it for live migration. This differs from other state (which is enumerated in a VMStateDescription structure) and ties the live migration code into the memory core. Decouple the two by introducing a separate API, vmstate_register_ram(), for registering a RAM block for migration. On s390 a shutdown is the state of all CPUs being either stopped or disabled (for interrupts) waiting. We have to track the overall number of running CPUs to call the shutdown sequence accordingly. This patch implements the counting and shutdown handling for the kvm path in qemu. Lets also wrap changes to env->halted and env->exception_index. For instance, -device scsi-disk,drive=foo -device scsi-disk,drive=foo happily creates two SCSI disks connected to the same block device. It's all downhill from there. Device usb-storage deliberately attaches twice to the same blockdev, which fails with the fix in place. Detach before the second attach there. 2010-07-02qdev: Decouple qdev_prop_drive from DriveInfoMarkus Armbruster1-1/+1
Make the property point to BlockDriverState, cutting out the DriveInfo middleman. This prepares the ground for block devices that don't have a DriveInfo. Currently all user-defined ones have a DriveInfo, because the only way to define one is -drive & friends (they go through drive_init()). DriveInfo is closely tied to -drive, and like -drive, it mixes information about host and guest part of the block device. I'm working towards a new way to define block devices, with clean host/guest separation, and I need to get DriveInfo out of the way for that. Fortunately, the device models are perfectly happy with BlockDriverState, except for two places: ide_drive_initfn() and scsi_disk_initfn() need to check the DriveInfo for a serial number set with legacy -drive serial=... Use drive_get_by_blockdev() there. Device model code should now use DriveInfo only when explicitly dealing with drives defined the old way, i.e. without -device. This patch adds a firmware blob to the S390 target. The blob is a simple implementation of a virtio client that tries to read the second stage bootloader from sectors described as of offset 0x20 in the MBR. In combination with an updated zipl this allows for booting from virtio block devices. This firmware is built from the same sources as the second stage bootloader. This grand cleanup drops all reset and vmsave/load related synchronization points in favor of four(!) generic hooks: - cpu_synchronize_all_states in qemu_savevm_state_complete (initial sync from kernel before vmsave) - cpu_synchronize_all_post_init in qemu_loadvm_state (writeback after vmload) - cpu_synchronize_all_post_init in main after machine init - cpu_synchronize_all_post_reset in qemu_system_reset (writeback after system reset) These writeback points + the existing one of VCPU exec after cpu_synchronize_state map on three levels of writeback: - KVM_PUT_RUNTIME_STATE (during runtime, other VCPUs continue to run) - KVM_PUT_RESET_STATE (on synchronous system reset, all VCPUs stopped) - KVM_PUT_FULL_STATE (on init or vmload, all VCPUs stopped as well) This level is passed to the arch-specific VCPU state writing function that will decide which concrete substates need to be written. That way, no writer of load, save or reset functions that interact with in-kernel KVM states will ever have to worry about synchronization again. That also means that a lot of reasons for races, segfaults and deadlocks are eliminated. cpu_synchronize_state remains untouched, just as Anthony suggested. We continue to need it before reading or writing of VCPU states that are also tracked by in-kernel KVM subsystems. Consequently, this patch removes many cpu_synchronize_state calls that are now redundant, just like remaining explicit register syncs. 2010-01-20virtio-console: qdev conversion, new virtio-serial-busAmit Shah1-8/+0
This commit converts the virtio-console device to create a new virtio-serial bus that can host console and generic serial ports. The file hosting this code is now called virtio-serial-bus.c. The virtio console is now a very simple qdev device that sits on the virtio-serial-bus and communicates between the bus and qemu's chardevs. This commit also includes a few changes to the virtio backing code for pci and s390 to spawn the virtio-serial bus. As a result of the qdev conversion, we get rid of a lot of legacy code. The old-style way of instantiating a virtio console using -virtioconsole ... is maintained, but the new, preferred way is to use -device virtio-serial -device virtconsole,chardev=... With this commit, multiple devices as well as multiple ports with a single device can be supported. For multiple ports support, each port gets an IO vq pair. Since the guest needs to know in advance how many vqs a particular device will need, we have to set this number as a property of the virtio-serial device and also as a config option. In addition, we also spawn a pair of control IO vqs. This is an internal channel meant for guest-host communication for things like port open/close, sending port properties over to the guest, etc. This commit is a part of a series of other commits to get the full implementation of multiport support.
