2024-10-08fbdev: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()Uwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/video/fbdev to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. While touching these files, make indention of the struct initializer consistent in several files. 2023-07-24fbdev: Remove FBINFO_DEFAULT from framebuffer_alloc()'ed structsThomas Zimmermann1-1/+1
The flag FBINFO_DEFAULT is 0 and has no effect, as struct fbinfo.flags has been allocated to zero by framebuffer_alloc(). So do not set it. Flags should signal differences from the default values. 2023-07-20fbdev: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring1-3/+3
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2023-04-24fbdev: mb862xx: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-3/+2
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2022-11-16fbdev: Add support for the nomodeset kernel parameterThomas Zimmermann1-0/+3
Support the kernel's nomodeset parameter for all PCI-based fbdev drivers that use aperture helpers to remove other, hardware-agnostic graphics drivers. The parameter is a simple way of using the firmware-provided scanout buffer if the hardware's native driver is broken. The same effect could be achieved with per-driver options, but the importance of the graphics output for many users makes a single, unified approach worthwhile. With nomodeset specified, the fbdev driver module will not load. This unifies behavior with similar DRM drivers. In DRM helpers, modules first check the nomodeset parameter before registering the PCI driver. As fbdev has no such module helpers, we have to modify each driver individually. The name 'nomodeset' is slightly misleading, but has been chosen for historical reasons. Several drivers implemented it before it became a general option for DRM. So keeping the existing name was preferred over introducing a new one. v2: * print a warning if a driver does not init (Helge) * wrap video_firmware_drivers_only() in helper Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Reviewed-by: Javier Martinez Canillas <javierm@redhat.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20221111133024.9897-3-tzimmermann@suse.de
2022-10-08fbdev: mb862xx: Fix check of return value from irq_of_parse_and_map()Christophe Leroy1-1/+1
NO_IRQ is used to check the return of irq_of_parse_and_map(). On some architecture NO_IRQ is 0, on other architectures it is -1. irq_of_parse_and_map() returns 0 on error, independent of NO_IRQ. 2022-07-19fbdev: Remove conflicting devices on PCI busThomas Zimmermann1-0/+5
Remove firmware devices on the PCI bus, by calling aperture_remove_conflicting_pci_devices() in the probe function of each related fbdev driver. iSo far, most of these drivers did not remove conflicting VESA or EFI devices, or outride failed for resource conflicts (i.e., matroxfb.) This must have been broken for quite some time. 2014-04-17video: move fbdev to drivers/video/fbdevTomi Valkeinen1-0/+1206
The drivers/video directory is a mess. It contains generic video related files, directories for backlight, console, linux logo, lots of fbdev device drivers, fbdev framework files. Make some order into the chaos by creating drivers/video/fbdev directory, and move all fbdev related files there. No functionality is changed, although I guess it is possible that some subtle Makefile build order related issue could be created by this patch.
