2024-12-04phy: usb: Toggle the PHY power during initJustin Chen1-0/+6
When bringing up the PHY, it might be in a bad state if left powered. One case is we lose the PLL lock if the PLL is gated while the PHY is powered. Toggle the PHY power so we can start from a known state. 2024-10-17phy: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()Uwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/phy/ to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. While touching these files, make indention of the struct initializer consistent in several files. 2024-10-07phy: usb: update Broadcom driver table to use designated initializersSam Edwards1-220/+215
The Broadcom USB PHY driver contains a lookup table (`reg_bits_map_tables`) to resolve register bitmaps unique to certain versions of the USB PHY as found in various Broadcom chip families. Historically, this table was just kept carefully in sync with the "selector" enum every time the latter changed to ensure consistency. However, a recent commit [1] introduced two new enumerators but did not adjust the array for BCM4908, thus breaking the xHCI controller (and boot process) on this platform and revealing the fragility of this approach. Since these arrays are a little sparse (many elements are zero) and the position of the array elements is significant only insofar as they agree with the enumerators, designated initializers are a better fit than positional initializers here. Convert this table accordingly. 2024-10-07phy: usb: Fix missing elements in BCM4908 USB init arraySam Edwards1-0/+2
The Broadcom USB PHY driver contains a lookup table (`reg_bits_map_tables`) to resolve register bitmaps unique to certain versions of the USB PHY as found in various Broadcom chip families. A recent commit (see 'fixes' tag) introduced two new elements to each chip family in this table -- except for one: BCM4908. This resulted in the xHCI controller not being initialized correctly, causing a panic on boot. The next patch will update this table to use designated initializers in order to prevent this from happening again. For now, just add back the missing array elements to resolve the regression. 2023-07-17phy: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring2-1/+1
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. The COMMONONN bit turns off the PHY when the host controller puts it into suspend state. This can happen during the following... - Nothing is connected to the port - The host controller goes into low power mode whatever due to auto suspend or system suspend. With COMMONONN we also must unset U2_FREECLK_EXISTS since the UTMI clock is fed by the PHY. With these changes we see a power savings of ~12mW when port is in suspend. 2023-03-20phy: broadcom: phy-brcm-usb: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-4/+2
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2022-11-07phy: usb: Disable phy auto-suspendJustin Chen1-0/+6
The BDC block requires the PLL lock in order to grab the PLL clock. The phy auto-suspend feature turns off the phy when nothing is attached leading to the PLL to not lock. This leads the BDC block to grab the AUX clock instead of the PLL clock. This is not ideal, so lets turn this feature off. 2022-11-07phy: usb: s2 WoL wakeup_count not incremented for USB->Eth devicesAl Cooper1-3/+3
The PHY's "wakeup_count" is not incrementing when waking from WoL. The wakeup count can be found in sysfs at: /sys/bus/platform/devices/rdb/*.usb-phy/power/wakeup_count. The problem is that the system wakup event handler was being passed the wrong "device" by the PHY driver. 2022-11-05phy: usb: Improve port mode selectionJustin Chen4-21/+25
Split port modes into two different variables. Supported port modes is what the hardware supports. While port mode is how the hardware is currently configured and can be dynamically changed through the sysfs. We initialize all supported port modes on init even though the port mode may not be selected because we cannot guarantee the downstream interface from the phy will be active or not. This also fixes an issue where port modes selected via sysfs were not being saved through suspend/resume. Just like every other family BCM4908 should get its own enum value. That is required to properly handle it in chipset conditional code. The real change is excluding BCM4908 from the PLL reprogramming code (see brcmusb_usb3_pll_54mhz()). I'm not sure what's the BCM4908 reference clock frequency but: 1. BCM4908 custom driver from Broadcom's SDK doesn't reprogram PLL 2. Doing that in Linux driver stopped PHY handling some USB 3.0 devices This change makes USB 3.0 PHY recognize e.g.: 1. 04e8:6860 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd Galaxy series, misc. (MTP mode) 2. 1058:259f - Western Digital My Passport 259F Broadcom's STB SoCs come with a set of SUN_TOP_CTRL_* registers that allow reading chip family and product ids. Such a block & register is missing on BCM4908 so this commit introduces "compatible" string specific binding. 2022-02-25phy: usb: Add "wake on" functionality for newer Synopsis XHCI controllersAl Cooper1-8/+38
Add "wake on" support for the newer Synopsis based XHCI only controller. This works on the 72165 and 72164 and newer chips and does not work on 7216 based systems. Also switch the USB sysclk to a slower clock on suspend to save additional power in S2. The clock switch will only save power on the 72165b0 and newer chips and is a nop on older chips. The previous commit 4b402fa8e0b7 ("phy: phy-brcm-usb: support PHY on the BCM4908") added a second "default" line for ARCH_BCM_4908 above the original "default" line for ARCH_BRCMSTB. When two "default" lines are used, only the first is used and this change stopped the PHY_BRCM_USB option for being enabled for ARCH_BRCMSTB. The fix is to use one "default line with "||". 2022-01-23phy: usb: Leave some clocks running during suspendAl Cooper1-0/+38
The PHY client driver does a phy_exit() call on suspend or rmmod and the PHY driver needs to know the difference because some clocks need to be kept running for suspend but can be shutdown on unbind/rmmod (or if there are no PHY clients at all). The fix is to use a PM notifier so the driver can tell if a PHY client is calling exit() because of a system suspend or a driver unbind/rmmod.
