2024-08-29nfc: pn533: Add poll mod list filling checkAleksandr Mishin1-0/+5
In case of im_protocols value is 1 and tm_protocols value is 0 this combination successfully passes the check 'if (!im_protocols && !tm_protocols)' in the nfc_start_poll(). But then after pn533_poll_create_mod_list() call in pn533_start_poll() poll mod list will remain empty and dev->poll_mod_count will remain 0 which lead to division by zero. Normally no im protocol has value 1 in the mask, so this combination is not expected by driver. But these protocol values actually come from userspace via Netlink interface (NFC_CMD_START_POLL operation). So a broken or malicious program may pass a message containing a "bad" combination of protocol parameter values so that dev->poll_mod_count is not incremented inside pn533_poll_create_mod_list(), thus leading to division by zero. Call trace looks like: nfc_genl_start_poll() nfc_start_poll() ->start_poll() pn533_start_poll() Add poll mod list filling check. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE. 2024-06-20nfc: Drop explicit initialization of struct i2c_device_id::driver_data to 0Uwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
These drivers don't use the driver_data member of struct i2c_device_id, so don't explicitly initialize this member. This prepares putting driver_data in an anonymous union which requires either no initialization or named designators. But it's also a nice cleanup on its own. 2024-01-27treewide, serdev: change receive_buf() return type to size_tFrancesco Dolcini1-2/+2
receive_buf() is called from ttyport_receive_buf() that expects values ">= 0" from serdev_controller_receive_buf(), change its return type from ssize_t to size_t. The need for this clean-up was noticed while fixing a warning, see commit 94d053942544 ("Bluetooth: btnxpuart: fix recv_buf() return value"). Changing the callback prototype to return an unsigned seems the best way to document the API and ensure that is properly used. GNSS drivers implementation of serdev receive_buf() callback return directly the return value of gnss_insert_raw(). gnss_insert_raw() returns a signed int, however this is not an issue since the value returned is always positive, because of the kfifo_in() implementation. gnss_insert_raw() could be changed to return also an unsigned, however this is not implemented here as request by the GNSS maintainer Johan Hovold. 2022-12-25treewide: Convert del_timer*() to timer_shutdown*()Steven Rostedt (Google)2-2/+2
Due to several bugs caused by timers being re-armed after they are shutdown and just before they are freed, a new state of timers was added called "shutdown". After a timer is set to this state, then it can no longer be re-armed. The following script was run to find all the trivial locations where del_timer() or del_timer_sync() is called in the same function that the object holding the timer is freed. It also ignores any locations where the timer->function is modified between the del_timer*() and the free(), as that is not considered a "trivial" case. This was created by using a coccinelle script and the following commands: $ cat timer.cocci @@ expression ptr, slab; identifier timer, rfield; @@ ( - del_timer(&ptr->timer); + timer_shutdown(&ptr->timer); | - del_timer_sync(&ptr->timer); + timer_shutdown_sync(&ptr->timer); ) ... when strict when != ptr->timer ( kfree_rcu(ptr, rfield); | kmem_cache_free(slab, ptr); | kfree(ptr); ) $ spatch timer.cocci . > /tmp/t.patch $ patch -p1 < /tmp/t.patch Link: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20221123201306.823305113@linutronix.de/ Signed-off-by: Steven Rostedt (Google) <rostedt@goodmis.org> Acked-by: Pavel Machek <pavel@ucw.cz> [ LED ] Acked-by: Kalle Valo <kvalo@kernel.org> [ wireless ] Acked-by: Paolo Abeni <pabeni@redhat.com> [ networking ] Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2022-08-22nfc: pn533: Fix use-after-free bugs caused by pn532_cmd_timeoutDuoming Zhou1-0/+1
When the pn532 uart device is detaching, the pn532_uart_remove() is called. But there are no functions in pn532_uart_remove() that could delete the cmd_timeout timer, which will cause use-after-free bugs. The process is shown below: (thread 1) | (thread 2) | pn532_uart_send_frame pn532_uart_remove | mod_timer(&pn532->cmd_timeout,...) ... | (wait a time) kfree(pn532) //FREE | pn532_cmd_timeout | pn532_uart_send_frame | pn532->... //USE This patch adds del_timer_sync() in pn532_uart_remove() in order to prevent the use-after-free bugs. 2022-08-16i2c: Make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König1-3/+1
The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before. 2022-05-18nfc: pn533: Fix buggy cleanup orderLin Ma1-2/+3
When removing the pn533 device (i2c or USB), there is a logic error. The original code first cancels the worker (flush_delayed_work) and then destroys the workqueue (destroy_workqueue), leaving the timer the last one to be deleted (del_timer). This result in a possible race condition in a multi-core preempt-able kernel. That is, if the cleanup (pn53x_common_clean) is concurrently run with the timer handler (pn533_listen_mode_timer), the timer can queue the poll_work to the already destroyed workqueue, causing use-after-free. This patch reorder the cleanup: it uses the del_timer_sync to make sure the handler is finished before the routine will destroy the workqueue. Note that the timer cannot be activated by the worker again. static void pn533_wq_poll(struct work_struct *work) ... rc = pn533_send_poll_frame(dev); if (rc) return; if (cur_mod->len == 0 && dev->poll_mod_count > 1) mod_timer(&dev->listen_timer, ...); That is, the mod_timer can be called only when pn533_send_poll_frame() returns no error, which is impossible because the device is detaching and the lower driver should return ENODEV code. Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. 2020-01-13NFC: pn533: fix bulk-message timeoutJohan Hovold1-1/+1
The driver was doing a synchronous uninterruptible bulk-transfer without using a timeout. This could lead to the driver hanging on probe due to a malfunctioning (or malicious) device until the device is physically disconnected. While sleeping in probe the driver prevents other devices connected to the same hub from being added to (or removed from) the bus. An arbitrary limit of five seconds should be more than enough. 2019-10-29nfc: pn533: Split pn533 init & nfc_registerLars Poeschel4-52/+80
There is a problem in the initialisation and setup of the pn533: It registers with nfc too early. It could happen, that it finished registering with nfc and someone starts using it. But setup of the pn533 is not yet finished. Bad or at least unintended things could happen. So I split out nfc registering (and unregistering) to seperate functions that have to be called late in probe then. i2c requires a bit more love: i2c requests an irq in it's probe function. 'Commit 32ecc75ded72 ("NFC: pn533: change order operations in dev registation")' shows, this can not happen too early. An irq can be served before structs are fully initialized. The way chosen to prevent this is to request the irq after nfc_alloc_device initialized the structs, but before nfc_register_device. So there is now this pn532_i2c_nfc_alloc function. This adds hooks for dev_up and dev_down to the phy_ops. They are optional. The idea is to inform the phy driver when the nfc chip is really going to be used. 2018-05-31NFC: pn533: don't send USB data off of the stackGreg Kroah-Hartman1-12/+30
It's amazing that this driver ever worked, but now that x86 doesn't allow USB data to be sent off of the stack, it really does not work at all. Fix this up by properly allocating the data for the small "commands" that get sent to the device off of the stack. We do this for one command by having a whole urb just for ack messages, as they can be submitted in interrupt context, so we can not use usb_bulk_msg(). But the poweron command can sleep (and does), so use usb_bulk_msg() for that transfer. 2017-11-21treewide: setup_timer() -> timer_setup()Kees Cook1-4/+3
This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes, since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following examples, in addition to some other variations. Casting from unsigned long: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr); and forced object casts: void my_callback(struct something *ptr) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr); become: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); Direct function assignments: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = my_callback; have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback; And finally, callbacks without a data assignment: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); have their argument renamed to verify they're unused during conversion: void my_callback(struct timer_list *unused) { ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script: spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \ -I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \ -I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \ -I ./arch/x86/include/generated/uapi -I ./include/uapi \ -I ./include/generated/uapi --include ./include/linux/kconfig.h \ --dir . \ --cocci-file ~/src/data/timer_setup.cocci @fix_address_of@ expression e;
