2024-10-17perf test: Move attr files into shell directory where they are usedIan Rogers50-2044/+0
Now the attr tests are shell tests move the associated python and configuration files. Update the installation build rules for the new directories. Recycle the lib install rules for python files allowing the explicit attr.py install line to be dropped. 2024-10-03perf test attr: Add back missing topdown eventsVeronika Molnarova4-144/+320
With the patch 0b6c5371c03c "Add missing topdown metrics events" eight topdown metric events with numbers ranging from 0x8000 to 0x8700 were added to the test since they were added as 'perf stat' default events. Later the patch 951efb9976ce "Update no event/metric expectations" kept only 4 of those events(0x8000-0x8300). Currently, the topdown events with numbers 0x8400 to 0x8700 are missing from the list of expected events resulting in a failure. Add back the missing topdown events. 2024-10-02tools/perf: Allow inherit + PERF_SAMPLE_READ when opening eventsBen Gainey8-2/+150
The "perf record" tool will now default to this new mode if the user specifies a sampling group when not in system-wide mode, and when "--no-inherit" is not specified. This change updates evsel to allow the combination of inherit and PERF_SAMPLE_READ. A fallback is implemented for kernel versions where this feature is not supported. 2024-01-04perf test: test case 'Setup struct perf_event_attr' fails on s390 on z/vmThomas Richter1-1/+1
perf test 17 'Setup struct perf_event_attr' fails on s390 z/VM guest, using linux-next kernel. Root cause is the fall-back from hardware counter cycles perf_event_attr: type 0 (PERF_TYPE_HARDWARE) size 136 config 0 (PERF_COUNT_HW_CPU_CYCLES) { sample_period, sample_freq } 4000 sample_type IP|TID|TIME|ADDR|PERIOD|DATA_SRC read_format ID|LOST which returns -ENOENT on s390 z/VM guest. To fix this on s390 allow event number 0 (cycles) and event number 1 (task-clock) as expected result. 2023-12-04perf test record user-regs: Fix mask for vg registerVeronika Molnarova2-2/+2
The 'vg' register for arm64 shows up in --user_regs as available when masking the variable AT_HWCAP with 1 << 22 returns '1' as done in perf_regs.c. However, in subtests for support of SVE, the check for the 'vg' register is done by masking the variable AT_HWCAP with the value 0x200000 which is equals to 1 << 21 instead of 1 << 22. This results in inconsistencies on certain systems where the test expects that the 'vg' register is not operational when it is, and vice-versa. During the testing on a machine that the test expected not to have the 'vg' register available, 'perf record' with the option --user-regs showed records for the 'vg' register together with all of the others, which means that the mask for the subtest of perf_event_attr is off by one. Change the value of the mask from 0x200000 to 0x400000 to correct it. User space tasks can migrate between CPUs, so when tracing selected CPUs, sideband for all CPUs is needed. In this case set the cpu map of the evsel to all online CPUs. This may modify the original cpu map of the evlist. Therefore, need to check whether the preceding scenario exists before record__init_thread_masks(). Dummy tracking has been set in record__open(), move it before record__init_thread_masks() and add a helper for unified processing. 2022-10-15perf test: Fix attr tests for PERF_FORMAT_LOSTJames Clark6-11/+11
Since PERF_FORMAT_LOST was added, the default read format has that bit set, so add it to the tests. Keep the old value as well so that the test still passes on older kernels. Adds a couple of perf_event_attr tests for the fix introduced in [1]. The tests check that the correct sample_period value is set in the struct perf_event_attr of the arm_spe events. This uses the "perf_events generic PMU" data structure which sets exclude_hv to 1 per default. Using this PMU that test case always fails. That is the reason why exclude_hv attribute setting varies. 2019-03-21perf tools: Save bpf_prog_info and BTF of new BPF programsSong Liu24-24/+24
To fully annotate BPF programs with source code mapping, 4 different information are needed: 1) PERF_RECORD_KSYMBOL 2) PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT 3) bpf_prog_info 4) btf This patch handles 3) and 4) for BPF programs loaded after 'perf record|top'. For timely process of these information, a dedicated event is added to the side band evlist. When PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT is received via the side band event, the polling thread gathers 3) and 4) vis sys_bpf and store them in perf_env. This information is saved to perf.data at the end of 'perf record'. Committer testing: The 'wakeup_watermark' member in 'struct perf_event_attr' is inside a unnamed union, so can't be used in a struct designated initialization with older gccs, get it out of that, isolating as 'attr.wakeup_watermark = 1;' to work with all gcc versions. We also need to add '--no-bpf-event' to the 'perf record' perf_event_attr tests in 'perf test', as the way that that test goes is to intercept the events being setup and looking if they match the fields described in the control files, since now it finds first the side band event used to catch the PERF_RECORD_BPF_EVENT, they all fail. With these issues fixed: Same scenario as for testing BPF programs loaded before 'perf record' or 'perf top' starts, only start the BPF programs after 'perf record|top', so that its information get collected by the sideband threads, the rest works as for the programs loaded before start monitoring. Add missing 'inline' to the bpf_event__add_sb_event() when HAVE_LIBBPF_SUPPORT is not defined, fixing the build in systems without binutils devel files installed. The "struct perf_event_attr setup" entry in 'perf test' is in fact a series of tests that will exec the tools, passing different sets of command line arguments to then intercept the sys_perf_event_open syscall, in user space, to check that the perf_event_attr->sample_type and other feature request bits are setup as expected. We recently restored the callchain requesting command line argument, -g, to not require a parameter ("dwarf" or "fp"), instead using a default ("fp" for now) and making the long option variant, --call-chain, be the one to be used when a different callchain collection method is preferred. In that case 'perf test' saw no problems as the intercepted syscall got the bits as expected, i.e. the default is 'fp', but the fact that 'fp' may be an existing program and the specified workload would then be passed as a parameter to it is an usability problem that needs fixing.
