2024-04-05scsi: target: Fix SELinux error when systemd-modules loads the target moduleMaurizio Lombardi1-0/+12
If the systemd-modules service loads the target module, the credentials of that userspace process will be used to validate the access to the target db directory. SELinux will prevent it, reporting an error like the following: kernel: audit: type=1400 audit(1676301082.205:4): avc: denied { read } for pid=1020 comm="systemd-modules" name="target" dev="dm-3" ino=4657583 scontext=system_u:system_r:systemd_modules_load_t:s0 tcontext=system_u:object_r:targetd_etc_rw_t:s0 tclass=dir permissive=0 Fix the error by using the kernel credentials to access the db directory Signed-off-by: Maurizio Lombardi <mlombard@redhat.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20240215143944.847184-2-mlombard@redhat.com Reviewed-by: Mike Christie <michael.christie@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Martin K. 2024-02-12scsi: target: Fix unmap setup during configurationMike Christie1-16/+32
This issue was found and also debugged by Carl Lei <me@xecycle.info>. If the device is not enabled, iblock/file will have not setup their se_device to bdev/file mappings. If a user tries to config the unmap settings at this time, we will then crash trying to access a NULL pointer where the bdev/file should be. This patch adds a check to make sure the device is configured before we try to call the configure_unmap callout. 2023-10-13Merge patch series "scsi: target: Allow userspace to config cmd submission"Martin K. Petersen1-0/+22
Mike Christie <michael.christie@oracle.com> says: The following patches were made over Linus's tree but apply over Martin's branches. They allow userspace to configure how fabric drivers submit cmds to backend drivers. Right now loop and vhost use a worker thread, and the other drivers submit from the contexts they receive/process the cmd from. For multiple LUN cases where the target can queue more cmds than the backend can handle then deferring to a worker thread is safest because the backend driver can block when doing things like waiting for a free request/tag. Deferring also helps when the target has to handle transport level requests from the recv context. For cases where the backend devices can queue everything the target sends, then there is no need to defer to a workqueue and you can see a perf boost of up to 26% for small IO workloads. For a nvme device and vhost-scsi I can see with 4K IOs: fio jobs 1 2 4 8 10 -------------------------------------------------- workqueue submit 94K 190K 394K 770K 890K direct submit 128K 252K 488K 950K - Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/1b1f7a5c-0988-45f9-b103-dfed2c0405b1@oracle.com Signed-off-by: Martin K. 2023-10-13scsi: target: Allow userspace to request direct submissionsMike Christie1-0/+22
This allows userspace to request the fabric drivers do direct submissions if they support it. With the new device file, submit_type, users can write 0 - 2 to control how commands are submitted to the backend: 0 - TARGET_FABRIC_DEFAULT_SUBMIT - LIO will use the fabric's default submission type. This is the default for compat. 1 - TARGET_DIRECT_SUBMIT - LIO will submit the cmd to the backend from the calling context if the fabric the cmd was received on supports it, else it will use the fabric's default type. 2 - TARGET_QUEUE_SUBMIT - LIO will queue the cmd to the LIO submission workqueue which will pass it to the backend. When using an NVMe drive and vhost-scsi with direct submission we see around a 20% improvement in 4K I/Os: fio jobs 1 2 4 8 10 -------------------------------------------------- defer 94K 190K 394K 770K 890K direct 128K 252K 488K 950K - And when using the queueing mode, we now no longer see issues like where the iSCSI tx thread is blocked in the block layer waiting on a tag so it can't respond to a nop or perform I/Os for other LUs. 2021-09-13scsi: target: Fix the pgr/alua_support_store functionsMaurizio Lombardi1-12/+20
Commit 356ba2a8bc8d ("scsi: target: tcmu: Make pgr_support and alua_support attributes writable") introduced support for changeable alua_support and pgr_support target attributes. These can only be changed if the backstore is user-backed, otherwise the kernel returns -EINVAL. This triggers a warning in the targetcli/rtslib code when performing a target restore that includes non-userbacked backstores: # targetctl restore Storage Object block/storage1: Cannot set attribute alua_support: [Errno 22] Invalid argument, skipped Storage Object block/storage1: Cannot set attribute pgr_support: [Errno 22] Invalid argument, skipped Fix this warning by returning an error code only if we are really going to flip the PGR/ALUA bit in the transport_flags field, otherwise we will do nothing and return success. Return ENOSYS instead of EINVAL if the pgr/alua attributes can not be changed, this way it will be possible for userspace to understand if the operation failed because an invalid value has been passed to strtobool() or because the attributes are fixed. 2020-05-07scsi: target: tcmu: Make pgr_support and alua_support attributes writableBodo Stroesser1-2/+54
Currently in tcmu reservation commands are handled by core's pr implementation (default) or completely rejected (emulate_pr set to 0). We additionally want to be able to do full reservation handling in userspace. Therefore we need a way to set TRANSPORT_FLAG_PASSTHROUGH_PGR. The inverted flag is displayed by attribute pgr_support. Since we moved the flag from transport/backend to se_device in the previous commit, we now can make it changeable per device by allowing to write the attribute. The new field transport_flags_changeable in transport/backend is used to reject writing if not allowed for a backend. Regarding ALUA we also want to be able to passthrough commands to userspace in tcmu. Therefore we need TRANSPORT_FLAG_PASSTHROUGH_ALUA to be changeable, because by setting it we can switch off all ALUA checks in core. So we also set TRANSPORT_FLAG_PASSTHROUGH_ALUA in tcmu's transport_flags_changeable. Of course, ALUA and reservation handling in userspace will work only, if session/nexus information is sent to userspace along with every command. This will be object of a patch series announced by Mike Christie. In preparation for supporting user provided vendor strings, add an extra byte to the vendor, model and revision arrays in struct t10_wwn. This ensures that the full INQUIRY data can be carried in the arrays along with a null-terminator. Change a number of array readers and writers so that they account for explicit null-termination: - The pscsi_set_inquiry_info() and emulate_model_alias_store() codepaths don't currently explicitly null-terminate; fix this. - Existing t10_wwn field dumps use for-loops which step over null-terminators for right-padding. + Use printf with width specifiers instead. 2018-11-28scsi: target: replace fabric_ops.name with fabric_aliasDavid Disseldorp1-12/+18
iscsi_target_mod is the only LIO fabric where fabric_ops.name differs from the fabric_ops.fabric_name string. fabric_ops.name is used when matching target/$fabric ConfigFS create paths, so rename it .fabric_alias and fallback to target/$fabric vs .fabric_name comparison if .fabric_alias isn't initialised. iscsi_target_mod is the only fabric module to set .fabric_alias . All fabrics return a const string. In all cases *except* iSCSI the get_fabric_name() string matches fabric_ops.name. Both fabric_ops.get_fabric_name() and fabric_ops.name are user-facing, with the former being used for PR/ALUA state and the latter for ConfigFS (config/target/$name), so we unfortunately need to keep both strings around for now. The target database root directory, dbroot, has defaulted to /var/target for a while, but its main client, targetcli-fb, has been moving it to /etc/target for quite some time. With the plethora of target drivers now appearing, it has become more difficult to initialize this attribute before use by any child drivers. 2018-01-16target core: add device action configfs filesMike Christie1-0/+6
This patch adds a new group of files that are to be used to have the kernel module execution some action. The next patch will have target_core_user use the group/files to be able to block a device and to reset its memory buffer used to pass commands between user/kernel space. This type of file is different from the existing device attributes in that they may be write only and when written to they result in the kernel module executing some function. These need to be separate from the normal device attributes which get/set device values so userspace can continue to loop over all the attribs and get/set them during initialization. 2017-03-30target: Fix ALUA transition state race between multiple initiatorsMike Christie1-1/+1
Multiple threads could be writing to alua_access_state at the same time, or there could be multiple STPGs in flight (different initiators sending them or one initiator sending them to different ports), or a combo of both and the core_alua_do_transition_tg_pt calls will race with each other. Because from the last patches we no longer delay running core_alua_do_transition_tg_pt_work, there does not seem to be any point in running that in a workqueue. And, we always wait for it to complete one way or another, so we can sleep in this code path. So, this patch made over target-pending just adds a mutex and does the work core_alua_do_transition_tg_pt_work was doing in core_alua_do_transition_tg_pt. There is also no need to use an atomic for the tg_pt_gp_alua_access_state. In core_alua_do_transition_tg_pt we will test and set it under the transition mutex. And, it is a int/32 bits so in the other places where it is read, we will never see it partially updated.
