Pull vdso data page handling updates from Thomas Gleixner:
"First steps of consolidating the VDSO data page handling.
The VDSO data page handling is architecture specific for historical
reasons, but there is no real technical reason to do so.
Aside of that VDSO data has become a dump ground for various
mechanisms and fail to provide a clear separation of the
functionalities.
Clean this up by:
- consolidating the VDSO page data by getting rid of architecture
specific warts especially in x86 and PowerPC.
- removing the last includes of header files which are pulling in
other headers outside of the VDSO namespace.
- seperating timekeeping and other VDSO data accordingly.
Further consolidation of the VDSO page handling is done in subsequent
changes scheduled for the next merge window.
This also lays the ground for expanding the VDSO time getters for
independent PTP clocks in a generic way without making every
architecture add support seperately"

To avoid duplication of inline asm between C and Rust, we need to
import the inline asm from the relevant `jump_label.h` header into Rust.
To make that easier, this patch updates the header files to expose the
inline asm via a new ARCH_STATIC_BRANCH_ASM macro.
The header files are all updated to define a ARCH_STATIC_BRANCH_ASM that
takes the same arguments in a consistent order so that Rust can use the
same logic for every architecture.

Recent gcc versions started not systematically inline __arch_xprod64()
and that has performance implications. Give the compiler the freedom to
decide only when optimizing for size.
Here's some timing numbers from lib/math/test_div64.c
Using __always_inline:
```
test_div64: Starting 64bit/32bit division and modulo test
test_div64: Completed 64bit/32bit division and modulo test, 0.048285584s elapsed
```
Without __always_inline:
```
test_div64: Starting 64bit/32bit division and modulo test
test_div64: Completed 64bit/32bit division and modulo test, 0.053023584s elapsed
```
Forcing constant base through the non-constant base code path:
```
test_div64: Starting 64bit/32bit division and modulo test
test_div64: Completed 64bit/32bit division and modulo test, 0.103263776s elapsed
```
It is worth noting that test_div64 does half the test with non constant
divisors already so the impact is greater than what those numbers show.
And for what it is worth, those numbers were obtained using QEMU. The
gcc version is 14.1.0.

page_to_phys is duplicated by all architectures, and from some strange
reason placed in <asm/io.h> where it doesn't fit at all.
phys_to_page is only provided by a few architectures despite having a lot

Armv8.9/9.4 PMUv3.9 adds per counter EL0 access controls. Per counter
access is enabled with the UEN bit in PMUSERENR_EL1 register. Individual
counters are enabled/disabled in the PMUACR_EL1 register. When UEN is
set, the CR/ER bits control EL0 write access and must be set to disable
write access.
With the access controls, the clearing of unused counters can be
skipped.
KVM also configures PMUSERENR_EL1 in order to trap to EL2. UEN does not

Since the generic VDSO clock mode storage is used, this header file is
unused and can be removed.
This avoids including a non-VDSO header while building the VDSO,

Currently, almost all architectures have switched to GENERIC_CPU_DEVICES,
except for arm32. Also switch over to GENERIC_CPU_DEVICES, and provide an
arch_register_cpu() that populates the hotpluggable flag for arm32.
The struct cpu in struct cpuinfo_arm is never used directly, remove
it to use the one GENERIC_CPU_DEVICES provides.
This also has the effect of moving the registration of CPUs from subsys to
driver core initialisation, prior to any initcalls running.

The code in early_paging_init is directly masking off bits
8, 9, 10 and 11 to temporarily disable caching of the translation
tables. There is some exlanations in the comment, but use some
defines instead of magic numbers so ut becomes more evident
what is going on.
Change the type of the register to u32 since these are indeed
unsigned 32bit registers, and use a temporary variable instead
of baking too much into the inline assembly call to increase
readability.

Armv9.4/8.9 PMU adds optional support for a fixed instruction counter
similar to the fixed cycle counter. Support for the feature is indicated
in the ID_AA64DFR1_EL1 register PMICNTR field. The counter is not
accessible in AArch32.
Existing userspace using direct counter access won't know how to handle
the fixed instruction counter, so we have to avoid using the counter
when user access is requested.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core
Pull driver core updates from Greg KH:
"Here is the big set of driver core changes for 6.11-rc1.
Lots of stuff in here, with not a huge diffstat, but apis are evolving
which required lots of files to be touched. Highlights of the changes
in here are:
- platform remove callback api final fixups (Uwe took many releases
to get here, finally!)
- Rust bindings for basic firmware apis and initial driver-core
interactions.
It's not all that useful for a "write a whole driver in rust" type
of thing, but the firmware bindings do help out the phy rust
drivers, and the driver core bindings give a solid base on which
others can start their work.
There is still a long way to go here before we have a multitude of
rust drivers being added, but it's a great first step.
- driver core const api changes.
This reached across all bus types, and there are some fix-ups for
some not-common bus types that linux-next and 0-day testing shook
out.
This work is being done to help make the rust bindings more safe,
as well as the C code, moving toward the end-goal of allowing us to
put driver structures into read-only memory. We aren't there yet,
but are getting closer.
- minor devres cleanups and fixes found by code inspection
- arch_topology minor changes
- other minor driver core cleanups
All of these have been in linux-next for a very long time with no
reported problems"

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm
Pull MM updates from Andrew Morton:
- In the series "mm: Avoid possible overflows in dirty throttling" Jan
Kara addresses a couple of issues in the writeback throttling code.
These fixes are also targetted at -stable kernels.
- Ryusuke Konishi's series "nilfs2: fix potential issues related to
reserved inodes" does that. This should actually be in the
mm-nonmm-stable tree, along with the many other nilfs2 patches. My
bad.
- More folio conversions from Kefeng Wang in the series "mm: convert to
folio_alloc_mpol()"
- Kemeng Shi has sent some cleanups to the writeback code in the series
"Add helper functions to remove repeated code and improve readability
of cgroup writeback"
- Kairui Song has made the swap code a little smaller and a little
faster in the series "mm/swap: clean up and optimize swap cache
index".
- In the series "mm/memory: cleanly support zeropage in
vm_insert_page*(), vm_map_pages*() and vmf_insert_mixed()" David
Hildenbrand has reworked the rather sketchy handling of the use of
the zeropage in MAP_SHARED mappings. I don't see any runtime effects
here - more a cleanup/understandability/maintainablity thing.
- Dev Jain has improved selftests/mm/va_high_addr_switch.c's handling
of higher addresses, for aarch64. The (poorly named) series is
"Restructure va_high_addr_switch".
- The core TLB handling code gets some cleanups and possible slight
optimizations in Bang Li's series "Add update_mmu_tlb_range() to
simplify code".
- Jane Chu has improved the handling of our
fake-an-unrecoverable-memory-error testing feature MADV_HWPOISON in
the series "Enhance soft hwpoison handling and injection".
- Jeff Johnson has sent a billion patches everywhere to add
MODULE_DESCRIPTION() to everything. Some landed in this pull.
- In the series "mm: cleanup MIGRATE_SYNC_NO_COPY mode", Kefeng Wang
has simplified migration's use of hardware-offload memory copying.
- Yosry Ahmed performs more folio API conversions in his series "mm:
zswap: trivial folio conversions".
- In the series "large folios swap-in: handle refault cases first",
Chuanhua Han inches us forward in the handling of large pages in the
swap code. This is a cleanup and optimization, working toward the end
objective of full support of large folio swapin/out.
- In the series "mm,swap: cleanup VMA based swap readahead window
calculation", Huang Ying has contributed some cleanups and a possible
fixlet to his VMA based swap readahead code.
- In the series "add mTHP support for anonymous shmem" Baolin Wang has
taught anonymous shmem mappings to use multisize THP. By default this
is a no-op - users must opt in vis sysfs controls. Dramatic
improvements in pagefault latency are realized.
- David Hildenbrand has some cleanups to our remaining use of
page_mapcount() in the series "fs/proc: move page_mapcount() to
fs/proc/internal.h".
- David also has some highmem accounting cleanups in the series
"mm/highmem: don't track highmem pages manually".
- Build-time fixes and cleanups from John Hubbard in the series
"cleanups, fixes, and progress towards avoiding "make headers"".
- Cleanups and consolidation of the core pagemap handling from Barry
Song in the series "mm: introduce pmd|pte_needs_soft_dirty_wp helpers
and utilize them".
- Lance Yang's series "Reclaim lazyfree THP without splitting" has
reduced the latency of the reclaim of pmd-mapped THPs under fairly
common circumstances. A 10x speedup is seen in a microbenchmark.
It does this by punting to aother CPU but I guess that's a win unless
all CPUs are pegged.
- hugetlb_cgroup cleanups from Xiu Jianfeng in the series
"mm/hugetlb_cgroup: rework on cftypes".
- Miaohe Lin's series "Some cleanups for memory-failure" does just that
thing.
- Someone other than SeongJae has developed a DAMON feature in Honggyu
Kim's series "DAMON based tiered memory management for CXL memory".
This adds DAMON features which may be used to help determine the
efficiency of our placement of CXL/PCIe attached DRAM.
- DAMON user API centralization and simplificatio work in SeongJae
Park's series "mm/damon: introduce DAMON parameters online commit
function".
- In the series "mm: page_type, zsmalloc and page_mapcount_reset()"
David Hildenbrand does some maintenance work on zsmalloc - partially
modernizing its use of pageframe fields.
- Kefeng Wang provides more folio conversions in the series "mm: remove
page_maybe_dma_pinned() and page_mkclean()".
- More cleanup from David Hildenbrand, this time in the series
"mm/memory_hotplug: use PageOffline() instead of PageReserved() for
!ZONE_DEVICE". It "enlightens memory hotplug more about PageOffline()
pages" and permits the removal of some virtio-mem hacks.
- Barry Song's series "mm: clarify folio_add_new_anon_rmap() and
__folio_add_anon_rmap()" is a cleanup to the anon folio handling in
preparation for mTHP (multisize THP) swapin.
- Kefeng Wang's series "mm: improve clear and copy user folio"
implements more folio conversions, this time in the area of large
folio userspace copying.
- The series "Docs/mm/damon/maintaier-profile: document a mailing tool
and community meetup series" tells people how to get better involved
with other DAMON developers. From SeongJae Park.
- A large series ("kmsan: Enable on s390") from Ilya Leoshkevich does
that.
- David Hildenbrand sends along more cleanups, this time against the
migration code. The series is "mm/migrate: move NUMA hinting fault
folio isolation + checks under PTL".
- Jan Kara has found quite a lot of strangenesses and minor errors in
the readahead code. He addresses this in the series "mm: Fix various
readahead quirks".
- SeongJae Park's series "selftests/damon: test DAMOS tried regions and
{min,max}_nr_regions" adds features and addresses errors in DAMON's
self testing code.
- Gavin Shan has found a userspace-triggerable WARN in the pagecache
code. The series "mm/filemap: Limit page cache size to that supported
by xarray" addresses this. The series is marked cc:stable.
- Chengming Zhou's series "mm/ksm: cmp_and_merge_page() optimizations
and cleanup" cleans up and slightly optimizes KSM.
- Roman Gushchin has separated the memcg-v1 and memcg-v2 code - lots of
code motion. The series (which also makes the memcg-v1 code
Kconfigurable) are "mm: memcg: separate legacy cgroup v1 code and put
under config option" and "mm: memcg: put cgroup v1-specific memcg
data under CONFIG_MEMCG_V1"
- Dan Schatzberg's series "Add swappiness argument to memory.reclaim"
adds an additional feature to this cgroup-v2 control file.
- The series "Userspace controls soft-offline pages" from Jiaqi Yan
permits userspace to stop the kernel's automatic treatment of
excessive correctable memory errors. In order to permit userspace to
monitor and handle this situation.
- Kefeng Wang's series "mm: migrate: support poison recover from
migrate folio" teaches the kernel to appropriately handle migration
from poisoned source folios rather than simply panicing.
- SeongJae Park's series "Docs/damon: minor fixups and improvements"
does those things.
- In the series "mm/zsmalloc: change back to per-size_class lock"
Chengming Zhou improves zsmalloc's scalability and memory
utilization.
- Vivek Kasireddy's series "mm/gup: Introduce memfd_pin_folios() for
pinning memfd folios" makes the GUP code use FOLL_PIN rather than
bare refcount increments. So these paes can first be moved aside if
they reside in the movable zone or a CMA block.
- Andrii Nakryiko has added a binary ioctl()-based API to
/proc/pid/maps for much faster reading of vma information. The series
is "query VMAs from /proc/<pid>/maps".
- In the series "mm: introduce per-order mTHP split counters" Lance
Yang improves the kernel's presentation of developer information
related to multisize THP splitting.
- Michael Ellerman has developed the series "Reimplement huge pages
without hugepd on powerpc (8xx, e500, book3s/64)". This permits
userspace to use all available huge page sizes.
- In the series "revert unconditional slab and page allocator fault
injection calls" Vlastimil Babka removes a performance-affecting and
not very useful feature from slab fault injection.

On powerpc 8xx huge_ptep_get() will need to know whether the given ptep is
a PTE entry or a PMD entry. This cannot be known with the PMD entry

When clone3() was introduced, it was not obvious how each architecture
deals with setting up the stack and keeping the register contents in
a fork()-like system call, so this was left for the architecture
maintainers to implement, with __ARCH_WANT_SYS_CLONE3 defined by those
that already implement it.
Five years later, we still have a few architectures left that are missing
clone3(), and the macro keeps getting in the way as it's fundamentally
different from all the other __ARCH_WANT_SYS_* macros that are meant
to provide backwards-compatibility with applications using older
syscalls that are no longer provided by default.
Address this by reversing the polarity of the macro, adding an
__ARCH_BROKEN_SYS_CLONE3 macro to all architectures that don't
already provide the syscall, and remove __ARCH_WANT_SYS_CLONE3
from all the other ones.

In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be
changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one
step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct
device_driver in read-only memory.
Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified
to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of()
calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *.
For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in
the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at
this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.)
That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their
struct device * in read-only-memory.

Add the STACKLEAK gcc plugin to arm32 by adding the helper used by
stackleak common code: on_thread_stack(). It initialize the stack with the
poison value before returning from system calls which improves the kernel
security. Additionally, this disables the plugin in EFI stub code and
decompress code, which are out of scope for the protection.
Before the test on Qemu versatilepb board:
# echo STACKLEAK_ERASING > /sys/kernel/debug/provoke-crash/DIRECT
lkdtm: Performing direct entry STACKLEAK_ERASING
lkdtm: XFAIL: stackleak is not supported on this arch (HAVE_ARCH_STACKLEAK=n)
After:
# echo STACKLEAK_ERASING > /sys/kernel/debug/provoke-crash/DIRECT
lkdtm: Performing direct entry STACKLEAK_ERASING
lkdtm: stackleak stack usage:
high offset: 80 bytes
current: 280 bytes
lowest: 696 bytes
tracked: 696 bytes
untracked: 192 bytes
poisoned: 7220 bytes
low offset: 4 bytes

EFI runtime services are remapped into the lower 1 GiB of virtual
address space at boot, so they are guaranteed to be able to co-exist
with the kernel virtual mappings without the need to allocate space for
them in the kernel's vmalloc region, which is rather small.
This means those mappings are covered by TTBR0 when LPAE PAN is enabled,
and so 'user' access must be enabled while such calls are in progress.

The current arm32 architecture does not yet support the
HAVE_LD_DEAD_CODE_DATA_ELIMINATION feature. arm32 is widely used in
embedded scenarios, and enabling this feature would be beneficial for
reducing the size of the kernel image.
In order to make this work, we keep the necessary tables by annotating
them with KEEP, also it requires further changes to linker script to KEEP
some tables and wildcard compiler generated sections into the right place.
When using ld.lld for linking, KEEP is not recognized within the OVERLAY
command, and Ard proposed a concise method to solve this problem.
It boots normally with defconfig, vexpress_defconfig and tinyconfig.
The size comparison of zImage is as follows:
defconfig vexpress_defconfig tinyconfig
5137712 5138024 424192 no dce
5032560 4997824 298384 dce
2.0% 2.7% 29.7% shrink
When using smaller config file, there is a significant reduction in the
size of the zImage.
We also tested this patch on a commercially available single-board
computer, and the comparison is as follows:
a15eb_config
2161384 no dce
2092240 dce
3.2% shrink
The zImage size has been reduced by approximately 3.2%, which is 70KB on
2.1M.

The per-architecture fbdev code has no dependencies on fbdev and can
be used for any video-related subsystem. Rename the files to 'video'.
Use video-sti.c on parisc as the source file depends on CONFIG_STI_CORE.
On arc, arm, arm64, sh, and um the asm header file is an empty wrapper
around the file in asm-generic. Let Kbuild generate the file. The build
system does this automatically. Only um needs to generate video.h
explicitly, so that it overrides the host architecture's header. The
latter would otherwise interfere with the build.
Further update all includes statements, include guards, and Makefiles.
Also update a few strings and comments to refer to video instead of
fbdev.

lkdtm: Performing direct entry CFI_FORWARD_PROTO
lkdtm: Calling matched prototype ...
lkdtm: Calling mismatched prototype ...
CFI failure at lkdtm_indirect_call+0x40/0x4c (target: 0x0; expected type: 0x00000000)
WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 112 at lkdtm_indirect_call+0x40/0x4c

lkdtm: FAIL: survived mismatched prototype function call!
lkdtm: Unexpected! This kernel (6.8.0-rc1+ armv7l) was built with CONFIG_CFI_CLANG=y
As you can see the LKDTM test fails, but I expect that this would be
expected behaviour in the permissive mode.
We are currently not implementing target and type for the CFI
breakpoint as this requires additional operand bundling compiler
extensions.
CPUs without breakpoint support cannot handle breakpoints naturally,
in these cases the permissive mode will not work, CFI will fall over
on an undefined instruction:
Internal error: Oops - undefined instruction: 0 [#1] PREEMPT ARM
CPU: 0 PID: 186 Comm: ash Tainted: G W 6.9.0-rc1+ #7
Hardware name: Gemini (Device Tree)
PC is at lkdtm_indirect_call+0x38/0x4c
LR is at lkdtm_CFI_FORWARD_PROTO+0x30/0x6c
This is reasonable I think: it's the best CFI can do to ascertain
the the control flow is not broken on these CPUs.
