Use autoreconf and gettext
Simplify autogen script a bit by letting autoreconf to do all the work
with invoking automake, autoconf, autopoint and other autotools.
Also migrate the i18n infra from intltool to gettext. Intltool is
obsolete by now - gettext gained support for the missing file formats
by now.
