2023-01-19fs: port i_{g,u}id_into_vfs{g,u}id() to mnt_idmapChristian Brauner1-2/+1
Convert to struct mnt_idmap. Remove legacy file_mnt_user_ns() and mnt_user_ns(). Last cycle we merged the necessary infrastructure in 256c8aed2b42 ("fs: introduce dedicated idmap type for mounts"). This is just the conversion to struct mnt_idmap. Currently we still pass around the plain namespace that was attached to a mount. This is in general pretty convenient but it makes it easy to conflate namespaces that are relevant on the filesystem with namespaces that are relevent on the mount level. Especially for non-vfs developers without detailed knowledge in this area this can be a potential source for bugs. Once the conversion to struct mnt_idmap is done all helpers down to the really low-level helpers will take a struct mnt_idmap argument instead of two namespace arguments. This way it becomes impossible to conflate the two eliminating the possibility of any bugs. All of the vfs and all filesystems only operate on struct mnt_idmap. 2022-11-30fs/remap_range: avoid spurious writeback on zero length requestBrian Foster1-5/+2
generic_remap_checks() can reduce the effective request length (i.e., after the reflink extend to EOF case is handled) down to zero. If this occurs, __generic_remap_file_range_prep() proceeds through dio serialization, file mapping flush calls, and may invoke file_modified() before returning back to the filesystem caller, all of which immediately check for len == 0 and return. While this is mostly harmless, it is spurious and not completely without side effect. A filemap write call can submit I/O (but not wait on it) when the specified end byte precedes the start but happens to land on the same aligned page boundary, which can occur from __generic_remap_file_range_prep() when len is 0. The dedupe path already has a len == 0 check to break out before doing range comparisons. Lift this check a bit earlier in the function to cover the general case of len == 0 and avoid the unnecessary work. When using the FIDEDUPRANGE ioctl, in case of success the requested size is returned. In some cases this might not be the actual amount of bytes deduplicated. 2022-07-13fs/remap: constrain dedupe of EOF blocksDave Chinner1-1/+2
If dedupe of an EOF block is not constrainted to match against only other EOF blocks with the same EOF offset into the block, it can match against any other block that has the same matching initial bytes in it, even if the bytes beyond EOF in the source file do not match. Fix this by constraining the EOF block matching to only match against other EOF blocks that have identical EOF offsets and data. This allows "whole file dedupe" to continue to work without allowing eof blocks to randomly match against partial full blocks with the same data. 2022-03-14fs: allow cross-vfsmount reflink/dedupeJosef Bacik1-6/+1
Currently we disallow reflink and dedupe if the two files aren't on the same vfsmount. However we really only need to disallow it if they're not on the same super block. It is very common for btrfs to have a main subvolume that is mounted and then different subvolumes mounted at different locations. It's allowed to reflink between these volumes, but the vfsmount check disallows this. Instead fix dedupe to check for the same superblock, and simply remove the vfsmount check for reflink as it already does the superblock check. Reviewed-by: Darrick J. 2021-08-23fs: remove mandatory file locking supportJeff Layton1-12/+0
We added CONFIG_MANDATORY_FILE_LOCKING in 2015, and soon after turned it off in Fedora and RHEL8. Several other distros have followed suit. I've heard of one problem in all that time: Someone migrated from an older distro that supported "-o mand" to one that didn't, and the host had a fstab entry with "mand" in it which broke on reboot. They didn't actually _use_ mandatory locking so they just removed the mount option and moved on. This patch rips out mandatory locking support wholesale from the kernel, along with the Kconfig option and the Documentation file. 2021-01-24namei: make permission helpers idmapped mount awareChristian Brauner1-1/+1
The two helpers inode_permission() and generic_permission() are used by the vfs to perform basic permission checking by verifying that the caller is privileged over an inode. In order to handle idmapped mounts we extend the two helpers with an additional user namespace argument. On idmapped mounts the two helpers will make sure to map the inode according to the mount's user namespace and then peform identical permission checks to inode_permission() and generic_permission(). If the initial user namespace is passed nothing changes so non-idmapped mounts will see identical behavior as before. Call remap_verify_area() on the source file as well as the destination. When called from vfs_dedupe_file_range() the check as already been performed, but not so if called from layered fs (overlayfs, etc...) Could ommit the redundant check in vfs_dedupe_file_range(), but leave for now to get error early (for fear of breaking backward compatibility). This call shouldn't be performance sensitive. I would like to move all the generic helpers for the vfs remap range functionality (aka clonerange and dedupe) into a separate file so that they won't be scattered across the vfs and the mm subsystems. The eventual goal is to be able to deselect remap_range.c if none of the filesystems need that code, but the tricky part here is picking a stable(ish) part of the merge window to rearrange code.
