2023-08-14I2C: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring1-1/+2
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2023-06-05i2c: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-4/+2
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. 2013-02-22i2c: Remove unneeded xxx_set_drvdata(..., NULL) callsDoug Anderson1-3/+0
There is simply no reason to be manually setting the private driver data to NULL in the remove/fail to probe cases. This is just extra cruft code that can be removed. A few notes: * Nothing relies on drvdata being set to NULL. * The __device_release_driver() function eventually calls dev_set_drvdata(dev, NULL) anyway, so there's no need to do it twice. * I verified that there were no cases where xxx_get_drvdata() was being called in these drivers and checking for / relying on the NULL return value. This could be cleaned up kernel-wide but for now just take the baby step and remove from the i2c subsystem. 2010-09-30of/i2c: Fix module load order issue caused by of_i2c.cGrant Likely1-0/+3
Commit 959e85f7, "i2c: add OF-style registration and binding" caused a module dependency loop where of_i2c.c calls functions in i2c-core, and i2c-core calls of_i2c_register_devices() in of_i2c. This means that when i2c support is built as a module when CONFIG_OF is set, then neither i2c_core nor of_i2c are able to be loaded. This patch fixes the problem by moving the of_i2c_register_devices() calls back into the device drivers. Device drivers already specifically request the core code to parse the device tree for devices anyway by setting the of_node pointer, so it isn't a big deal to also call the registration function. The drivers just become slightly more verbose. Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca> Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org>

The usage model doesn't change and if any drivers have been missed, or if anything has been fixed up incorrectly, then it will fail with a compile time error, and the fixup will be trivial. 2008-07-14i2c: Let bus drivers add SPD to their classJean Delvare1-2/+2
Let general purpose I2C/SMBus bus drivers add SPD to their class. Once this is done, we will be able to tell the eeprom driver to only probe for SPD EEPROMs and similar on these buses. Note that I took a conservative approach here, adding I2C_CLASS_SPD to many drivers that have no idea whether they can host SPD EEPROMs or not. This is to make sure that the eeprom driver doesn't stop probing buses where SPD EEPROMs or equivalent live. So, bus driver maintainers and users should feel free to remove the SPD class from drivers those buses never have SPD EEPROMs or they don't want the eeprom driver to bind to them. Likewise, feel free to add the SPD class to any bus driver I might have missed. Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org>

2007-10-19Convert files to UTF-8 and some cleanupsJan Engelhardt1-1/+1
* Convert files to UTF-8. * Also correct some people's names (one example is Eißfeldt, which was found in a source file. Given that the author used an ß at all in a source file indicates that the real name has in fact a 'ß' and not an 'ss', which is commonly used as a substitute for 'ß' when limited to 7bit.) * Correct town names (Goettingen -> Göttingen) * Update Eberhard Mönkeberg's address (http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/1/8/313) Signed-off-by: Jan Engelhardt <jengelh@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@kernel.org>
2007-10-13i2c-ibm_iic: Add support for new-style clientsStefan Roese1-1/+8
Use i2c_bit_add_numbered_adapter() if device id specified, so that the i2c-ibm_iic adapter works well with new-style pre-declared devices. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de> Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org>
2007-02-13i2c: Declare more i2c_adapter parent devicesJean Delvare1-0/+1
Declare the parent device of i2c_adapter devices each time we can easily do so. It makes the i2c_adapter appear at the right place in the device tree, rather than as a platform device.
