2022-04-08ARM: rework endianess selectionArnd Bergmann1-1/+0
Choosing big-endian vs little-endian kernels in Kconfig has not worked correctly since the introduction of CONFIG_ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM a long time ago. The problems is that CONFIG_BIG_ENDIAN depends on ARCH_SUPPORTS_BIG_ENDIAN, which can set by any one platform in the config, but would actually have to be supported by all of them. This was mostly ok for ARMv6/ARMv7 builds, since these are BE8 and tend to just work aside from problems in nonportable device drivers. For ARMv4/v5 machines, CONFIG_BIG_ENDIAN and CONFIG_ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM were never set together, so this was disabled on all those machines except for IXP4xx. As IXP4xx can now become part of ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM, it seems better to formalize this logic: all ARMv4/v5 platforms get an explicit dependency on being either big-endian (ixp4xx) or little-endian (the rest). We may want to fix ixp4xx in the future to support both, but it does not work in LE mode at the moment. For the ARMv6/v7 platforms, there are two ways this could be handled a) allow both modes only for platforms selecting 'ARCH_SUPPORTS_BIG_ENDIAN' today, but only LE mode for the others, given that these were added intentionally at some point. b) allow both modes everwhere, given that it was already possible to build that way by e.g. selecting ARCH_VIRT, and that the list is not an accurate reflection of which platforms may or may not work. Out of these, I picked b) because it seemed slighly more logical to me. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>
2021-06-16arm: zynq: don't disable CONFIG_ARM_GLOBAL_TIMER due to CONFIG_CPU_FREQ anymoreAndrea Merello1-1/+1
Now ARM global timer driver could work even if it's source clock rate changes, so we don't need to disable that driver when cpu frequency scaling is in use. This cause Zynq arch to get support for timer delay and get_cycles(). 2020-06-09mm: reorder includes after introduction of linux/pgtable.hMike Rapoport1-1/+1
The replacement of <asm/pgrable.h> with <linux/pgtable.h> made the include of the latter in the middle of asm includes. 2020-01-08ARM: zynq: use physical cpuid in zynq_slcr_cpu_stop/startQuanyang Wang1-2/+4
When kernel booting, it will create a cpuid map between the logical cpus and physical cpus. In a normal boot, the cpuid map is as below: Physical Logical 0 ==> 0 1 ==> 1 But in kdump, there is a condition that the crash happens at the physical cpu1, and the crash kernel will run at the physical cpu1 too, so the cpuid map in crash kernel is as below: Physical Logical 1 ==> 0 0 ==> 1 The functions zynq_slcr_cpu_stop/start is to stop/start the physical cpus, the parameter cpu should be the physical cpuid. So use cpu_logical_map to translate the logical cpuid to physical cpuid. Or else the logical cpu0(physical cpu1) will stop itself and the processor will hang. 2019-08-14ARM: zynq: Use memcpy_toio instead of memcpy on smp bring-upLuis Araneda1-1/+1
This fixes a kernel panic on memcpy when FORTIFY_SOURCE is enabled. The initial smp implementation on commit aa7eb2bb4e4a ("arm: zynq: Add smp support") used memcpy, which worked fine until commit ee333554fed5 ("ARM: 8749/1: Kconfig: Add ARCH_HAS_FORTIFY_SOURCE") enabled overflow checks at runtime, producing a read overflow panic. The computed size of memcpy args are: - p_size (dst): 4294967295 = (size_t) -1 - q_size (src): 1 - size (len): 8 Additionally, the memory is marked as __iomem, so one of the memcpy_* functions should be used for read/write. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2016-02-09ARM: zynq: address L2 cache data corruptionJosh Cartwright1-0/+4
The Zynq has a bug where the L2 cache will return invalid data in some circumstances unless the L2C_RAM register is set to 0x00020202 before the first enabling of the L2 cache. The Xilinx-recommended solution to this problem is to ensure that early one of the earlier bootstages correctly initialize L2C_RAM, however, this issue wasn't discovered and fixed until after their EDK/SDK 14.4 release. For systems built prior to that, and which lack field-upgradable bootloaders, this issue still exists and silent data corruption can be seen in the wild. Fix these systems by ensuring L2C_RAM is properly initialized at the earliest convenient moment prior to the L2 being brought up, which is when the SLCR is first mapped. The Zynq bug is described in more detail by Xilinx AR# 54190 as quoted below. Xilinx AR# 54190 http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/54190.htm Captured on 2014-09-24 14:43 -0500 = Description = For proper L2 cache operation, the user code must program the slcr.L2C_RAM register (address 0xF800_0A1C) to the value of 0x0002_0202 before enabling the L2 cache. The reset value (0x0001_0101) might cause, very infrequently, the L2 cache to return invalid data. = Solution = It is up to the user code (FSBL or other user code) to set the slcr.L2C_RAM register to the value 0x0002_0202 before enabling the L2 cache. Note: The L2 cache is disabled after reset and is not enabled by the BootROM. Note: The slcr.l2C_RAM register was previously reserved. It is added in the Zynq-7000 AP SoC Technical Reference Manual (TRM) v1.5 as "Reserved". Thanks to Jaeden Amero for initial debugging and triage efforts. 2015-12-01ARM: use "depends on" for SoC configs instead of "if" after promptMasahiro Yamada1-1/+2
Many ARM sub-architectures use prompts followed by "if" conditional, but it is wrong. Please notice the difference between config ARCH_FOO bool "Foo SoCs" if ARCH_MULTI_V7 and config ARCH_FOO bool "Foo SoCs" depends on ARCH_MULTI_V7 These two are *not* equivalent! In the former statement, it is not ARCH_FOO, but its prompt that depends on ARCH_MULTI_V7. So, it is completely valid that ARCH_FOO is selected by another, but ARCH_MULTI_V7 is still disabled. As it is not unmet dependency, Kconfig never warns. This is probably not what you want. The former should be used only when you need to do so, and you really understand what you are doing. (In most cases, it should be wrong!) For enabling/disabling sub-architectures, the latter is always correct. As a good side effect, this commit fixes some entries over 80 columns (mach-imx, mach-integrator, mach-mbevu). 2015-07-22ARM: zynq: Set bit 22 in PL310 AuxCtrl register (6395/1)Thomas Betker1-2/+2
This patch is based on the commit 1a8e41cd672f ("ARM: 6395/1: VExpress: Set bit 22 in the PL310 (cache controller) AuxCtlr register") Clearing bit 22 in the PL310 Auxiliary Control register (shared attribute override enable) has the side effect of transforming Normal Shared Non-cacheable reads into Cacheable no-allocate reads. Coherent DMA buffers in Linux always have a cacheable alias via the kernel linear mapping and the processor can speculatively load cache lines into the PL310 controller. With bit 22 cleared, Non-cacheable reads would unexpectedly hit such cache lines leading to buffer corruption. For Zynq, this fix avoids memory inconsistencies between Gigabit Ethernet controller (GEM) and CPU when DMA_CMA is disabled. 2015-06-01ARM: v7 setup function should invalidate L1 cacheRussell King3-10/+2
All ARMv5 and older CPUs invalidate their caches in the early assembly setup function, prior to enabling the MMU. This is because the L1 cache should not contain any data relevant to the execution of the kernel at this point; all data should have been flushed out to memory. This requirement should also be true for ARMv6 and ARMv7 CPUs - indeed, these typically do not search their caches when caching is disabled (as it needs to be when the MMU is disabled) so this change should be safe. ARMv7 allows there to be CPUs which search their caches while caching is disabled, and it's permitted that the cache is uninitialised at boot; for these, the architecture reference manual requires that an implementation specific code sequence is used immediately after reset to ensure that the cache is placed into a sane state. Such functionality is definitely outside the remit of the Linux kernel, and must be done by the SoC's firmware before _any_ CPU gets to the Linux kernel. Changing the data cache clean+invalidate to a mere invalidate allows us to get rid of a lot of platform specific hacks around this issue for their secondary CPU bringup paths - some of which were buggy. 2014-10-20ARM: zynq: Actually remove hotplug.cSoren Brinkmann2-16/+0
Commit 'ARM: zynq: Remove hotplug.c' (caf86a73eab4132f870e883216850d9eee40b04b) was supposed to remove hotplug.c - but it didn't. It moved all content from hotplug.c elsewhere and removed its entry from the Makefile, but missed to actually remove the whole file. Remove it now. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki: "Features-wise, to me the most important this time is a rework of wakeup interrupts handling in the core that makes them work consistently across all of the available sleep states, including suspend-to-idle. Many thanks to Thomas Gleixner for his help with this work. Second is an update of the generic PM domains code that has been in need of some care for quite a while. Unused code is being removed, DT support is being added and domains are now going to be attached to devices in bus type code in analogy with the ACPI PM domain. The majority of work here was done by Ulf Hansson who also has been the most active developer this time. Apart from this we have a traditional ACPICA update, this time to upstream version 20140828 and a few ACPI wakeup interrupts handling patches on top of the general rework mentioned above. There also are several cpufreq commits including renaming the cpufreq-cpu0 driver to cpufreq-dt, as this is what implements generic DT-based cpufreq support, and a new DT-based idle states infrastructure for cpuidle. In addition to that, the ACPI LPSS driver is updated, ACPI support for Apple machines is improved, a few bugs are fixed and a few cleanups are made all over. Finally, the Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) subsystem now has a tree maintained by Kevin Hilman that will be merged through the PM tree. Numbers-wise, the generic PM domains update takes the lead this time with 32 non-merge commits, second is cpufreq (15 commits) and the 3rd place goes to the wakeup interrupts handling rework (13 commits). Specifics: - Rework the handling of wakeup IRQs by the IRQ core such that all of them will be switched over to "wakeup" mode in suspend_device_irqs() and in that mode the first interrupt will abort system suspend in progress or wake up the system if already in suspend-to-idle (or equivalent) without executing any interrupt handlers. Among other things that eliminates the wakeup-related motivation to use the IRQF_NO_SUSPEND interrupt flag with interrupts which don't really need it and should not use it (Thomas Gleixner and Rafael Wysocki) - Switch over ACPI to handling wakeup interrupts with the help of the new mechanism introduced by the above IRQ core rework (Rafael Wysocki) - Rework the core generic PM domains code to eliminate code that's not used, add DT support and add a generic mechanism by which devices can be added to PM domains automatically during enumeration (Ulf Hansson, Geert Uytterhoeven and Tomasz Figa). - Add debugfs-based mechanics for debugging generic PM domains (Maciej Matraszek). - ACPICA update to upstream version 20140828. Included are updates related to the SRAT and GTDT tables and the _PSx methods are in the METHOD_NAME list now (Bob Moore and Hanjun Guo). - Add _OSI("Darwin") support to the ACPI core (unfortunately, that can't really be done in a straightforward way) to prevent Thunderbolt from being turned off on Apple systems after boot (or after resume from system suspend) and rework the ACPI Smart Battery Subsystem (SBS) driver to work correctly with Apple platforms (Matthew Garrett and Andreas Noever). - ACPI LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver update cleaning up the code, adding support for 133MHz I2C source clock on Intel Baytrail to it and making it avoid using UART RTS override with Auto Flow Control (Heikki Krogerus). - ACPI backlight updates removing the video_set_use_native_backlight quirk which is not necessary any more, making the code check the list of output devices returned by the _DOD method to avoid creating acpi_video interfaces that won't work and adding a quirk for Lenovo Ideapad Z570 (Hans de Goede, Aaron Lu and Stepan Bujnak) - New Win8 ACPI OSI quirks for some Dell laptops (Edward Lin) - Assorted ACPI code cleanups (Fabian Frederick, Rasmus Villemoes, Sudip Mukherjee, Yijing Wang, and Zhang Rui) - cpufreq core updates and cleanups (Viresh Kumar, Preeti U Murthy, Rasmus Villemoes) - cpufreq driver updates: cpufreq-cpu0/cpufreq-dt (driver name change among other things), ppc-corenet, powernv (Viresh Kumar, Preeti U Murthy, Shilpasri G Bhat, Lucas Stach) - cpuidle support for DT-based idle states infrastructure, new ARM64 cpuidle driver, cpuidle core cleanups (Lorenzo Pieralisi, Rasmus Villemoes) - ARM big.LITTLE cpuidle driver updates: support for DT-based initialization and Exynos5800 compatible string (Lorenzo Pieralisi, Kevin Hilman) - Rework of the test_suspend kernel command line argument and a new trace event for console resume (Srinivas Pandruvada, Todd E Brandt) - Second attempt to optimize swsusp_free() (hibernation core) to make it avoid going through all PFNs which may be way too slow on some systems (Joerg Roedel) - devfreq updates (Paul Bolle, Punit Agrawal, Ãrjan Eide). - rockchip-io Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) driver and AVS entry update in MAINTAINERS (Heiko Stübner, Kevin Hilman) - PM core fix related to clock management (Geert Uytterhoeven) - PM core's sysfs code cleanup (Johannes Berg)" * tag 'pm+acpi-3.18-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm: (105 commits) ACPI / fan: printk replacement PM / clk: Fix crash in clocks management code if !CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME PM / Domains: Rename cpu_data to cpuidle_data cpufreq: cpufreq-dt: fix potential double put of cpu OF node cpufreq: cpu0: rename driver and internals to 'cpufreq_dt' PM / hibernate: Iterate over set bits instead of PFNs in swsusp_free() cpufreq: ppc-corenet: remove duplicate update of cpu_data ACPI / sleep: Rework the handling of ACPI GPE wakeup from suspend-to-idle PM / sleep: Rename platform suspend/resume functions in suspend.c PM / sleep: Export dpm_suspend_late/noirq() and dpm_resume_early/noirq() ACPICA: Introduce acpi_enable_all_wakeup_gpes() ACPICA: Clear all non-wakeup GPEs in acpi_hw_enable_wakeup_gpe_block() ACPI / video: check _DOD list when creating backlight devices PM / Domains: Move dev_pm_domain_attach|detach() to pm_domain.h cpufreq: Replace strnicmp with strncasecmp cpufreq: powernv: Set the cpus to nominal frequency during reboot/kexec cpufreq: powernv: Set the pstate of the last hotplugged out cpu in policy->cpus to minimum cpufreq: Allow stop CPU callback to be used by all cpufreq drivers PM / devfreq: exynos: Enable building exynos PPMU as module PM / devfreq: Export helper functions for drivers ...
2014-10-03cpufreq: cpu0: rename driver and internals to 'cpufreq_dt'Viresh Kumar1-1/+1
The naming convention of this driver was always under the scanner, people complained that it should have a more generic name than cpu0, as it manages all CPUs that are sharing clock lines. Also, in future it will be modified to support any number of clusters with separate clock/voltage lines. Lets rename it to 'cpufreq_dt' from 'cpufreq_cpu0'.
