2011-10-31block: add export.h to files using EXPORT_SYMBOL/THIS_MODULE macrosPaul Gortmaker1-0/+1
These files were getting <linux/module.h> via an implicit include path, but we want to crush those out of existence since they cost time during compiles of processing thousands of lines of headers for no reason. Give them the lightweight header that just contains the EXPORT_SYMBOL infrastructure. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-04-05dm: improve block integrity supportMike Snitzer1-1/+11
The current block integrity (DIF/DIX) support in DM is verifying that all devices' integrity profiles match during DM device resume (which is past the point of no return). To some degree that is unavoidable (stacked DM devices force this late checking). But for most DM devices (which aren't stacking on other DM devices) the ideal time to verify all integrity profiles match is during table load. Introduce the notion of an "initialized" integrity profile: a profile that was blk_integrity_register()'d with a non-NULL 'blk_integrity' template. Add blk_integrity_is_initialized() to allow checking if a profile was initialized. Update DM integrity support to: - check all devices with _initialized_ integrity profiles match during table load; uninitialized profiles (e.g. for underlying DM device(s) of a stacked DM device) are ignored. - disallow a table load that would result in an integrity profile that conflicts with a DM device's existing (in-use) integrity profile - avoid clearing an existing integrity profile - validate all integrity profiles match during resume; but if they don't all we can do is report the mismatch (during resume we're past the point of no return) Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@redhat.com> Cc: Martin K. 2010-10-15block: Fix double free in blk_integrity_unregisterMartin K. Petersen1-1/+0
Commit 3839e4b introduced a kobject_put but failed to remove the kmem_cache_free beneath it, leading to a double free. Signed-off-by: Martin K. Petersen <martin.petersen@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jaxboe@fusionio.com>
2010-09-10block/scsi: Provide a limit on the number of integrity segmentsMartin K. Petersen1-21/+72
Some controllers have a hardware limit on the number of protection information scatter-gather list segments they can handle. Introduce a max_integrity_segments limit in the block layer and provide a new scsi_host_template setting that allows HBA drivers to provide a value suitable for the hardware. Add support for honoring the integrity segment limit when merging both bios and requests. Signed-off-by: Martin K. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo1-0/+1
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2010-03-07Driver core: Constify struct sysfs_ops in struct kobj_typeEmese Revfy1-1/+1
Constify struct sysfs_ops. This is part of the ops structure constification effort started by Arjan van de Ven et al. Benefits of this constification: * prevents modification of data that is shared (referenced) by many other structure instances at runtime * detects/prevents accidental (but not intentional) modification attempts on archs that enforce read-only kernel data at runtime * potentially better optimized code as the compiler can assume that the const data cannot be changed * the compiler/linker move const data into .rodata and therefore exclude them from false sharing Signed-off-by: Emese Revfy <re.emese@gmail.com> Acked-by: David Teigland <teigland@redhat.com> Acked-by: Matt Domsch <Matt_Domsch@dell.com> Acked-by: Maciej Sosnowski <maciej.sosnowski@intel.com> Acked-by: Hans J. 2009-07-28block: fix improper kobject release in blk_integrity_unregisterXiaotian Feng1-0/+1
blk_integrity_unregister should use kobject_put to release the kobject, otherwise after bi is freed, memory of bi->kobj->name is leaked. Signed-off-by: Xiaotian Feng <dfeng@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>
2009-05-22block: Do away with the notion of hardsect_sizeMartin K. Petersen1-1/+1
Until now we have had a 1:1 mapping between storage device physical block size and the logical block sized used when addressing the device. With SATA 4KB drives coming out that will no longer be the case. The sector size will be 4KB but the logical block size will remain 512-bytes. Hence we need to distinguish between the physical block size and the logical ditto. This patch renames hardsect_size to logical_block_size. Signed-off-by: Martin K. 2009-01-30block: Allow empty integrity profileMartin K. Petersen1-11/+14
Allow a block device to allocate and register an integrity profile without providing a template. This allows DM to preallocate a profile to avoid deadlocks during table reconfiguration. Signed-off-by: Martin K. Petersen <martin.petersen@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>
2008-10-09block: Switch blk_integrity_compare from bdev to gendiskMartin K. Petersen1-14/+14
The DM and MD integrity support now depends on being able to use gendisks instead of block_devices when comparing integrity profiles. Change function parameters accordingly. Also update comparison logic so that two NULL profiles are a valid configuration. Signed-off-by: Martin K. Petersen <martin.petersen@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>

2008-10-09block: implement and use {disk|part}_to_dev()Tejun Heo1-2/+3
Implement {disk|part}_to_dev() and use them to access generic device instead of directly dereferencing {disk|part}->dev. To make sure no user is left behind, rename generic devices fields to __dev. 2008-07-03block: Block layer data integrity supportMartin K. Petersen1-0/+382
Some block devices support verifying the integrity of requests by way of checksums or other protection information that is submitted along with the I/O. This patch implements support for generating and verifying integrity metadata, as well as correctly merging, splitting and cloning bios and requests that have this extra information attached.
