2007-05-08dtlk: fix error checks in module_init()Akinobu Mita1-4/+10
This patch fixes two things in module_init. - fix register_chrdev() error check Currently dtlk doesn't check register_chrdev() failure correctly. register_chrdev() returns a errno on failure. - check probe failure dtlk ignores probe failure and allows the module loading without such device. I got "Trying to free nonexistent resource" message by release_region() when unloading module without device. 2007-05-08header cleaning: don't include smp_lock.h when not usedRandy Dunlap1-1/+0
Remove includes of <linux/smp_lock.h> where it is not used/needed. Suggested by Al Viro. Builds cleanly on x86_64, i386, alpha, ia64, powerpc, sparc, sparc64, and arm (all 59 defconfigs). 2007-02-12[PATCH] Char: timers cleanupJiri Slaby1-5/+3
- Use timer macros to set function and data members and to modify expiration time. - Use DEFINE_TIMER for global timers and do not init them at run-time in these cases. - del_timer_sync is common in most cases -- we want to wait for timer function if it's still running. 2006-07-03[PATCH] make more file_operation structs staticArjan van de Ven1-1/+1
Mark the static struct file_operations in drivers/char as const. Making them const prevents accidental bugs, and moves them to the .rodata section so that they no longer do any false sharing; in addition with the proper debug option they are then protected against corruption.. 2005-05-01[PATCH] misc verify_area cleanupsJesper Juhl1-1/+1
There were still a few comments left refering to verify_area, and two functions, verify_area_skas & verify_area_tt that just wrap corresponding access_ok_skas & access_ok_tt functions, just like verify_area does for access_ok - deprecate those. There was also a few places that still used verify_area in commented-out code, fix those up to use access_ok. After applying this one there should not be anything left but finally removing verify_area completely, which will happen after a kernel release or two. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
