2024-05-10kbuild: use $(src) instead of $(srctree)/$(src) for source directoryMasahiro Yamada1-6/+6
Kbuild conventionally uses $(obj)/ for generated files, and $(src)/ for checked-in source files. It is merely a convention without any functional difference. In fact, $(obj) and $(src) are exactly the same, as defined in scripts/Makefile.build: src := $(obj) When the kernel is built in a separate output directory, $(src) does not accurately reflect the source directory location. While Kbuild resolves this discrepancy by specifying VPATH=$(srctree) to search for source files, it does not cover all cases. For example, when adding a header search path for local headers, -I$(srctree)/$(src) is typically passed to the compiler. This introduces inconsistency between upstream and downstream Makefiles because $(src) is used instead of $(srctree)/$(src) for the latter. To address this inconsistency, this commit changes the semantics of $(src) so that it always points to the directory in the source tree. Going forward, the variables used in Makefiles will have the following meanings: $(obj) - directory in the object tree $(src) - directory in the source tree (changed by this commit) $(objtree) - the top of the kernel object tree $(srctree) - the top of the kernel source tree Consequently, $(srctree)/$(src) in upstream Makefiles need to be replaced with $(src). 2023-12-05scsi: aic7xxx: Return ahc_linux_register_host()'s value rather than zeroSu Hui1-2/+1
ahc_linux_register_host() can return an error code in case of failure. So ahc_linux_pci_dev_probe() should return the value of ahc_linux_register_host() rather than zero. An earlier commit made ahc_linux_register_host() return negative error codes, which makes sure ahc_linux_pci_dev_probe() returns negative error codes. 2021-06-22scsi: aic7xxx: Fix unintentional sign extension issue on left shift of u8Colin Ian King1-1/+1
The shifting of the u8 integer returned fom ahc_inb(ahc, port+3) by 24 bits to the left will be promoted to a 32 bit signed int and then sign-extended to a u64. In the event that the top bit of the u8 is set then all then all the upper 32 bits of the u64 end up as also being set because of the sign-extension. Fix this by casting the u8 values to a u64 before the 24 bit left shift. Building aicasm with gcc 10.2 + gas 26.1 causes these errors: multiple definition of `args'; multiple definition of `yylineno'; args came from the expansion of: STAILQ_HEAD(macro_arg_list, macro_arg) args; The definition of the macro_arg_list structure is needed, the global variable 'args' is not, so delete it. yylineno is defined by flex, so defining it in bison/*.y file is not needed. Drivers should do only device-specific jobs. But in general, drivers using legacy PCI PM framework for .suspend()/.resume() have to manage many PCI PM-related tasks themselves which can be done by PCI Core itself. This brings extra load on the driver and it directly calls PCI helper functions to handle them. Switch to the new generic framework by updating function signatures and define a "struct dev_pm_ops" variable to bind PM callbacks. Also, remove unnecessary calls to the PCI Helper functions along with the legacy .suspend & .resume bindings.
