Pull networking updates from David Miller: "Highlights: 1) Support more Realtek wireless chips, from Jes Sorenson. 2) New BPF types for per-cpu hash and arrap maps, from Alexei Starovoitov. 3) Make several TCP sysctls per-namespace, from Nikolay Borisov. 4) Allow the use of SO_REUSEPORT in order to do per-thread processing of incoming TCP/UDP connections. The muxing can be done using a BPF program which hashes the incoming packet. From Craig Gallek. 5) Add a multiplexer for TCP streams, to provide a messaged based interface. BPF programs can be used to determine the message boundaries. From Tom Herbert. 6) Add 802.1AE MACSEC support, from Sabrina Dubroca. 7) Avoid factorial complexity when taking down an inetdev interface with lots of configured addresses. We were doing things like traversing the entire address less for each address removed, and flushing the entire netfilter conntrack table for every address as well. 8) Add and use SKB bulk free infrastructure, from Jesper Brouer. 9) Allow offloading u32 classifiers to hardware, and implement for ixgbe, from John Fastabend. 10) Allow configuring IRQ coalescing parameters on a per-queue basis, from Kan Liang. 11) Extend ethtool so that larger link mode masks can be supported. From David Decotigny. 12) Introduce devlink, which can be used to configure port link types (ethernet vs Infiniband, etc.), port splitting, and switch device level attributes as a whole. From Jiri Pirko. 13) Hardware offload support for flower classifiers, from Amir Vadai. 14) Add "Local Checksum Offload". Basically, for a tunneled packet the checksum of the outer header is 'constant' (because with the checksum field filled into the inner protocol header, the payload of the outer frame checksums to 'zero'), and we can take advantage of that in various ways. 2016-03-15Merge branch 'smp-hotplug-for-linus' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-1/+1
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip Pull cpu hotplug updates from Thomas Gleixner: "This is the first part of the ongoing cpu hotplug rework: - Initial implementation of the state machine - Runs all online and prepare down callbacks on the plugged cpu and not on some random processor - Replaces busy loop waiting with completions - Adds tracepoints so the states can be followed" More detailed commentary on this work from an earlier email: "What's wrong with the current cpu hotplug infrastructure? - Asymmetry The hotplug notifier mechanism is asymmetric versus the bringup and teardown. This is mostly caused by the notifier mechanism. - Largely undocumented dependencies While some notifiers use explicitely defined notifier priorities, we have quite some notifiers which use numerical priorities to express dependencies without any documentation why. - Control processor driven Most of the bringup/teardown of a cpu is driven by a control processor. While it is understandable, that preperatory steps, like idle thread creation, memory allocation for and initialization of essential facilities needs to be done before a cpu can boot, there is no reason why everything else must run on a control processor. Before this patch series, bringup looks like this: Control CPU Booting CPU do preparatory steps kick cpu into life do low level init sync with booting cpu sync with control cpu bring the rest up - All or nothing approach There is no way to do partial bringups. That's something which is really desired because we waste e.g. at boot substantial amount of time just busy waiting that the cpu comes to life. That's stupid as we could very well do preparatory steps and the initial IPI for other cpus and then go back and do the necessary low level synchronization with the freshly booted cpu. - Minimal debuggability Due to the notifier based design, it's impossible to switch between two stages of the bringup/teardown back and forth in order to test the correctness. So in many hotplug notifiers the cancel mechanisms are either not existant or completely untested. - Notifier [un]registering is tedious To [un]register notifiers we need to protect against hotplug at every callsite. There is no mechanism that bringup/teardown callbacks are issued on the online cpus, so every caller needs to do it itself. That also includes error rollback. What's the new design? The base of the new design is a symmetric state machine, where both the control processor and the booting/dying cpu execute a well defined set of states. Each state is symmetric in the end, except for some well defined exceptions, and the bringup/teardown can be stopped and reversed at almost all states. So the bringup of a cpu will look like this in the future: Control CPU Booting CPU do preparatory steps kick cpu into life do low level init sync with booting cpu sync with control cpu bring itself up The synchronization step does not require the control cpu to wait. That mechanism can be done asynchronously via a worker or some other mechanism. The teardown can be made very similar, so that the dying cpu cleans up and brings itself down. Cleanups which need to be done after the cpu is gone, can be scheduled asynchronously as well. There is a long way to this, as we need to refactor the notion when a cpu is available. Today we set the cpu online right after it comes out of the low level bringup, which is not really correct. The proper mechanism is to set it to available, i.e. cpu local threads, like softirqd, hotplug thread etc. can be scheduled on that cpu, and once it finished all booting steps, it's set to online, so general workloads can be scheduled on it. The reverse happens on teardown. First thing to do is to forbid scheduling of general workloads, then teardown all the per cpu resources and finally shut it off completely. This patch series implements the basic infrastructure for this at the core level. This includes the following: - Basic state machine implementation with well defined states, so ordering and prioritization can be expressed. - Interfaces to [un]register state callbacks This invokes the bringup/teardown callback on all online cpus with the proper protection in place and [un]installs the callbacks in the state machine array. For callbacks which have no particular ordering requirement we have a dynamic state space, so that drivers don't have to register an explicit hotplug state. If a callback fails, the code automatically does a rollback to the previous state. - Sysfs interface to drive the state machine to a particular step. This is only partially functional today. Full functionality and therefor testability will be achieved once we converted all existing hotplug notifiers over to the new scheme. - Run all CPU_ONLINE/DOWN_PREPARE notifiers on the booting/dying processor: Control CPU Booting CPU do preparatory steps kick cpu into life do low level init sync with booting cpu sync with control cpu wait for boot bring itself up Signal completion to control cpu In a previous step of this work we've done a full tree mechanical conversion of all hotplug notifiers to the new scheme. The balance is a net removal of about 4000 lines of code. This is not included in this series, as we decided to take a different approach. Instead of mechanically converting everything over, we will do a proper overhaul of the usage sites one by one so they nicely fit into the symmetric callback scheme. I decided to do that after I looked at the ugliness of some of the converted sites and figured out that their hotplug mechanism is completely buggered anyway. So there is no point to do a mechanical conversion first as we need to go through the usage sites one by one again in order to achieve a full symmetric and testable behaviour" * 'smp-hotplug-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (23 commits) cpu/hotplug: Document states better cpu/hotplug: Fix smpboot thread ordering cpu/hotplug: Remove redundant state check cpu/hotplug: Plug death reporting race rcu: Make CPU_DYING_IDLE an explicit call cpu/hotplug: Make wait for dead cpu completion based cpu/hotplug: Let upcoming cpu bring itself fully up arch/hotplug: Call into idle with a proper state cpu/hotplug: Move online calls to hotplugged cpu cpu/hotplug: Create hotplug threads cpu/hotplug: Split out the state walk into functions cpu/hotplug: Unpark smpboot threads from the state machine cpu/hotplug: Move scheduler cpu_online notifier to hotplug core cpu/hotplug: Implement setup/removal interface cpu/hotplug: Make target state writeable cpu/hotplug: Add sysfs state interface cpu/hotplug: Hand in target state to _cpu_up/down cpu/hotplug: Convert the hotplugged cpu work to a state machine cpu/hotplug: Convert to a state machine for the control processor cpu/hotplug: Add tracepoints ...
2016-03-13ipv4: Update parameters for csum_tcpudp_magic to their original typesAlexander Duyck1-6/+4
This patch updates all instances of csum_tcpudp_magic and csum_tcpudp_nofold to reflect the types that are usually used as the source inputs. For example the protocol field is populated based on nexthdr which is actually an unsigned 8 bit value. The length is usually populated based on skb->len which is an unsigned integer. This addresses an issue in which the IPv6 function csum_ipv6_magic was generating a checksum using the full 32b of skb->len while csum_tcpudp_magic was only using the lower 16 bits. As a result we could run into issues when attempting to adjust the checksum as there was no protocol agnostic way to update it. With this change the value is still truncated as many architectures use "(len + proto) << 8", however this truncation only occurs for values greater than 16776960 in length and as such is unlikely to occur as we stop the inner headers at ~64K in size. I did have to make a few minor changes in the arm, mn10300, nios2, and score versions of the function in order to support these changes as they were either using things such as an OR to combine the protocol and length, or were using ntohs to convert the length which would have truncated the value. I also updated a few spots in terms of whitespace and type differences for the addresses. Most of this was just to make sure all of the definitions were in sync going forward. 2016-03-01arch/hotplug: Call into idle with a proper stateThomas Gleixner1-1/+1
Let the non boot cpus call into idle with the corresponding hotplug state, so the hotplug core can handle the further bringup. That's a first step to convert the boot side of the hotplugged cpus to do all the synchronization with the other side through the state machine. For now it'll only start the hotplug thread and kick the full bringup of the cpu. 2016-02-25net: Facility to report route quality of connected socketsTom Herbert1-0/+2
This patch add the SO_CNX_ADVICE socket option (setsockopt only). The purpose is to allow an application to give feedback to the kernel about the quality of the network path for a connected socket. The value argument indicates the type of quality report. For this initial patch the only supported advice is a value of 1 which indicates "bad path, please reroute"-- the action taken by the kernel is to call dst_negative_advice which will attempt to choose a different ECMP route, reset the TX hash for flow label and UDP source port in encapsulation, etc. This facility should be useful for connected UDP sockets where only the application can provide any feedback about path quality. It could also be useful for TCP applications that have additional knowledge about the path outside of the normal TCP control loop. 2016-01-13Merge tag 'libnvdimm-for-4.5' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-0/+1
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/nvdimm/nvdimm Pull libnvdimm updates from Dan Williams: "The bulk of this has appeared in -next and independently received a build success notification from the kbuild robot. The 'for-4.5/block- dax' topic branch was rebased over the weekend to drop the "block device end-of-life" rework that Al would like to see re-implemented with a notifier, and to address bug reports against the badblocks integration. There is pending feedback against "libnvdimm: Add a poison list and export badblocks" received last week. Linda identified some localized fixups that we will handle incrementally. Summary: - Media error handling: The 'badblocks' implementation that originated in md-raid is up-levelled to a generic capability of a block device. 2015-10-04Merge branch 'strscpy' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-0/+1
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile Pull strscpy string copy function implementation from Chris Metcalf. Chris sent this during the merge window, but I waffled back and forth on the pull request, which is why it's going in only now. The new "strscpy()" function is definitely easier to use and more secure than either strncpy() or strlcpy(), both of which are horrible nasty interfaces that have serious and irredeemable problems. strncpy() has a useless return value, and doesn't NUL-terminate an overlong result. To make matters worse, it pads a short result with zeroes, which is a performance disaster if you have big buffers. strlcpy(), by contrast, is a mis-designed "fix" for strlcpy(), lacking the insane NUL padding, but having a differently broken return value which returns the original length of the source string. Which means that it will read characters past the count from the source buffer, and you have to trust the source to be properly terminated. It also makes error handling fragile, since the test for overflow is unnecessarily subtle. strscpy() avoids both these problems, guaranteeing the NUL termination (but not excessive padding) if the destination size wasn't zero, and making the overflow condition very obvious by returning -E2BIG. It also doesn't read past the size of the source, and can thus be used for untrusted source data too. So why did I waffle about this for so long? Every time we introduce a new-and-improved interface, people start doing these interminable series of trivial conversion patches. And every time that happens, somebody does some silly mistake, and the conversion patch to the improved interface actually makes things worse. Because the patch is mindnumbing and trivial, nobody has the attention span to look at it carefully, and it's usually done over large swatches of source code which means that not every conversion gets tested. So I'm pulling the strscpy() support because it *is* a better interface. But I will refuse to pull mindless conversion patches. Use this in places where it makes sense, but don't do trivial patches to fix things that aren't actually known to be broken. * 'strscpy' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile: tile: use global strscpy() rather than private copy string: provide strscpy() Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architectures

2015-07-29arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_uc() to all architecturesLuis R. Rodriguez1-0/+1
This adds ioremap_uc() only for architectures that do not include asm-generic.h/io.h as that already provides a default definition for them for both cases where you have CONFIG_MMU and you do not, and because of this, the number of architectures this patch address is less than the architectures that the ioremap_wt() patch addressed, "arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_wt() to all architectures"). In order to reduce the number of architectures we have to modify by adding new architecture IO APIs we'll have to review the architectures in this patch, see why they can't add asm-generic.h/io.h or issues that would be created by doing so and then spread a consistent inclusion of this header towards the end of their own header. For instance arch/metag includes the asm-generic/io.h *before* the ioremap*() definitions, this should be the other way around but only once we have guard wrappers for the non-MMU case also for asm-generic/io.h. 2015-07-17mm: clean up per architecture MM hook header filesLaurent Dufour2-15/+1
Commit 2ae416b142b6 ("mm: new mm hook framework") introduced an empty header file (mm-arch-hooks.h) for every architecture, even those which doesn't need to define mm hooks. As suggested by Geert Uytterhoeven, this could be cleaned through the use of a generic header file included via each per architecture asm/include/Kbuild file. 2015-06-24mm: new mm hook frameworkLaurent Dufour1-0/+15
CRIU is recreating the process memory layout by remapping the checkpointee memory area on top of the current process (criu). This includes remapping the vDSO to the place it has at checkpoint time. However some architectures like powerpc are keeping a reference to the vDSO base address to build the signal return stack frame by calling the vDSO sigreturn service. So once the vDSO has been moved, this reference is no more valid and the signal frame built later are not usable. This patch serie is introducing a new mm hook framework, and a new arch_remap hook which is called when mremap is done and the mm lock still hold. The next patch is adding the vDSO remap and unmap tracking to the powerpc architecture. This patch (of 3): This patch introduces a new set of header file to manage mm hooks: - per architecture empty header file (arch/x/include/asm/mm-arch-hooks.h) - a generic header (include/linux/mm-arch-hooks.h) The architecture which need to overwrite a hook as to redefine it in its header file, while architecture which doesn't need have nothing to do. The default hooks are defined in the generic header and are used in the case the architecture is not defining it. In a next step, mm hooks defined in include/asm-generic/mm_hooks.h should be moved here. 2015-06-22Merge branch 'x86-core-for-linus' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-0/+1
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip Pull x86 core updates from Ingo Molnar: "There were so many changes in the x86/asm, x86/apic and x86/mm topics in this cycle that the topical separation of -tip broke down somewhat - so the result is a more traditional architecture pull request, collected into the 'x86/core' topic. The topics were still maintained separately as far as possible, so bisectability and conceptual separation should still be pretty good - but there were a handful of merge points to avoid excessive dependencies (and conflicts) that would have been poorly tested in the end. The next cycle will hopefully be much more quiet (or at least will have fewer dependencies). The main changes in this cycle were: * x86/apic changes, with related IRQ core changes: (Jiang Liu, Thomas Gleixner) - This is the second and most intrusive part of changes to the x86 interrupt handling - full conversion to hierarchical interrupt domains: [IOAPIC domain] ----- | [MSI domain] --------[Remapping domain] ----- [ Vector domain ] | (optional) | [HPET MSI domain] ----- | | [DMAR domain] ----------------------------- | [Legacy domain] ----------------------------- This now reflects the actual hardware and allowed us to distangle the domain specific code from the underlying parent domain, which can be optional in the case of interrupt remapping. It's a clear separation of functionality and removes quite some duct tape constructs which plugged the remap code between ioapic/msi/hpet and the vector management. - Intel IOMMU IRQ remapping enhancements, to allow direct interrupt injection into guests (Feng Wu) * x86/asm changes: - Tons of cleanups and small speedups, micro-optimizations. This is in preparation to move a good chunk of the low level entry code from assembly to C code (Denys Vlasenko, Andy Lutomirski, Brian Gerst) - Moved all system entry related code to a new home under arch/x86/entry/ (Ingo Molnar) - Removal of the fragile and ugly CFI dwarf debuginfo annotations. Conversion to C will reintroduce many of them - but meanwhile they are only getting in the way, and the upstream kernel does not rely on them (Ingo Molnar) - NOP handling refinements. (Borislav Petkov) * x86/mm changes: - Big PAT and MTRR rework: making the code more robust and preparing to phase out exposing direct MTRR interfaces to drivers - in favor of using PAT driven interfaces (Toshi Kani, Luis R Rodriguez, Borislav Petkov) - New ioremap_wt()/set_memory_wt() interfaces to support Write-Through cached memory mappings. This is especially important for good performance on NVDIMM hardware (Toshi Kani) * x86/ras changes: - Add support for deferred errors on AMD (Aravind Gopalakrishnan) This is an important RAS feature which adds hardware support for poisoned data. That means roughly that the hardware marks data which it has detected as corrupted but wasn't able to correct, as poisoned data and raises an APIC interrupt to signal that in the form of a deferred error. 2015-06-07arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_wt() to all architecturesToshi Kani1-0/+1
Add ioremap_wt() to all arch-specific asm/io.h headers which define ioremap_wc() locally. These headers do not include <asm-generic/iomap.h>. Some of them include <asm-generic/io.h>, but ioremap_wt() is defined for consistency since they define all ioremap_xxx locally. In all architectures without Write-Through support, ioremap_wt() is defined indentical to ioremap_nocache(). frv and m68k already have ioremap_writethrough(). On those we add ioremap_wt() indetical to ioremap_writethrough() and defines ARCH_HAS_IOREMAP_WT in both architectures. The ioremap_wt() interface is exported to drivers. 2015-05-19mm/fault, arch: Use pagefault_disable() to check for disabled pagefaults in ↵David Hildenbrand1-4/+4
the handler Introduce faulthandler_disabled() and use it to check for irq context and disabled pagefaults (via pagefault_disable()) in the pagefault handlers. Please note that we keep the in_atomic() checks in place - to detect whether in irq context (in which case preemption is always properly disabled). In contrast, preempt_disable() should never be used to disable pagefaults. With !CONFIG_PREEMPT_COUNT, preempt_disable() doesn't modify the preempt counter, and therefore the result of in_atomic() differs. We validate that condition by using might_fault() checks when calling might_sleep(). Therefore, add a comment to faulthandler_disabled(), describing why this is needed. faulthandler_disabled() and pagefault_disable() are defined in linux/uaccess.h, so let's properly add that include to all relevant files. This patch is based on a patch from Thomas Gleixner.
