2012-04-08kvmclock: Add functions to check if the host has stopped the vmEric B Munson1-0/+1
When a host stops or suspends a VM it will set a flag to show this. The watchdog will use these functions to determine if a softlockup is real, or the result of a suspended VM. 2012-04-02parisc: fix missing cmpxchg file error from system.h splitPaul Gortmaker2-106/+117
Commit b4816afa3986 ("Move the asm-generic/system.h xchg() implementation to asm-generic/cmpxchg.h") introduced the concept of asm/cmpxchg.h but the parisc arch never got one. Fork the cmpxchg content out of the asm/atomic.h file to create one. Some minor whitespace fixups were done on the block of code that created the new file. Cc: "James E.J. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-asm_system Pull "Disintegrate and delete asm/system.h" from David Howells: "Here are a bunch of patches to disintegrate asm/system.h into a set of separate bits to relieve the problem of circular inclusion dependencies. I've built all the working defconfigs from all the arches that I can and made sure that they don't break. The reason for these patches is that I recently encountered a circular dependency problem that came about when I produced some patches to optimise get_order() by rewriting it to use ilog2(). This uses bitops - and on the SH arch asm/bitops.h drags in asm-generic/get_order.h by a circuituous route involving asm/system.h. The main difficulty seems to be asm/system.h. It holds a number of low level bits with no/few dependencies that are commonly used (eg. memory barriers) and a number of bits with more dependencies that aren't used in many places (eg. switch_to()). These patches break asm/system.h up into the following core pieces: (1) asm/barrier.h Move memory barriers here. This already done for MIPS and Alpha. (2) asm/switch_to.h Move switch_to() and related stuff here. (3) asm/exec.h Move arch_align_stack() here. Other process execution related bits could perhaps go here from asm/processor.h. (4) asm/cmpxchg.h Move xchg() and cmpxchg() here as they're full word atomic ops and frequently used by atomic_xchg() and atomic_cmpxchg(). (5) asm/bug.h Move die() and related bits. (6) asm/auxvec.h Move AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH here. Other arch headers are created as needed on a per-arch basis." Fixed up some conflicts from other header file cleanups and moving code around that has happened in the meantime, so David's testing is somewhat weakened by that. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/paulg/linux Pull <linux/bug.h> cleanup from Paul Gortmaker: "The changes shown here are to unify linux's BUG support under the one <linux/bug.h> file. Due to historical reasons, we have some BUG code in bug.h and some in kernel.h -- i.e. the support for BUILD_BUG in linux/kernel.h predates the addition of linux/bug.h, but old code in kernel.h wasn't moved to bug.h at that time. As a band-aid, kernel.h was including <asm/bug.h> to pseudo link them. This has caused confusion[1] and general yuck/WTF[2] reactions. Here is an example that violates the principle of least surprise: CC lib/string.o lib/string.c: In function 'strlcat': lib/string.c:225:2: error: implicit declaration of function 'BUILD_BUG_ON' make[2]: *** [lib/string.o] Error 1 $ $ grep linux/bug.h lib/string.c #include <linux/bug.h> $ We've included <linux/bug.h> for the BUG infrastructure and yet we still get a compile fail! [We've not kernel.h for BUILD_BUG_ON.] Ugh - very confusing for someone who is new to kernel development. With the above in mind, the goals of this changeset are: 1) find and fix any include/*.h files that were relying on the implicit presence of BUG code. 2) find and fix any C files that were consuming kernel.h and hence relying on implicitly getting some/all BUG code. 3) Move the BUG related code living in kernel.h to <linux/bug.h> 4) remove the asm/bug.h from kernel.h to finally break the chain. During development, the order was more like 3-4, build-test, 1-2. But to ensure that git history for bisect doesn't get needless build failures introduced, the commits have been reorderd to fix the problem areas in advance. 2012-03-23coredump: add VM_NODUMP, MADV_NODUMP, MADV_CLEAR_NODUMPJason Baron1-0/+4
Since we no longer need the VM_ALWAYSDUMP flag, let's use the freed bit for 'VM_NODUMP' flag. The idea is is to add a new madvise() flag: MADV_DONTDUMP, which can be set by applications to specifically request memory regions which should not dump core. The specific application I have in mind is qemu: we can add a flag there that wouldn't dump all of guest memory when qemu dumps core. This flag might also be useful for security sensitive apps that want to absolutely make sure that parts of memory are not dumped. To clear the flag use: MADV_DODUMP. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jbarnes/pci Pull PCI changes (including maintainer change) from Jesse Barnes: "This pull has some good cleanups from Bjorn and Yinghai, as well as some more code from Yinghai to better handle resource re-allocation when enabled. There's also a new initcall_debug feature from Arjan which will print out quirk timing information to help identify slow quirks for fixing or refinement (Yinghai sent in a few patches to do just that once the new debug code landed). Beyond that, I'm handing off PCI maintainership to Bjorn Helgaas. He's been a core PCI and Linux contributor for some time now, and has kindly volunteered to take over. I just don't feel I have the time for PCI review and work that it deserves lately (I've taken on some other projects), and haven't been as responsive lately as I'd like, so I approached Bjorn asking if he'd like to manage things. 2012-02-21sock: Introduce the SO_PEEK_OFF sock optionPavel Emelyanov1-0/+1
This one specifies where to start MSG_PEEK-ing queue data from. When set to negative value means that MSG_PEEK works as ususally -- peeks from the head of the queue always. When some bytes are peeked from queue and the peeking offset is non negative it is moved forward so that the next peek will return next portion of data. When non-peeking recvmsg occurs and the peeking offset is non negative is is moved backward so that the next peek will still peek the proper data (i.e. the one that would have been picked if there were no non peeking recv in between). The offset is set using per-proto opteration to let the protocol handle the locking issues and to check whether the peeking offset feature is supported by the protocol the socket belongs to. lib: use generic pci_iomap on all architectures Many architectures don't want to pull in iomap.c, so they ended up duplicating pci_iomap from that file. That function isn't trivial, and we are going to modify it https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/11/14/183 so the duplication hurts. This reduces the scope of the problem significantly, by moving pci_iomap to a separate file and referencing that from all architectures. * tag 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mst/vhost: alpha: drop pci_iomap/pci_iounmap from pci-noop.c mn10300: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP mn10300: add missing __iomap markers frv: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP tile: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP tile: don't panic on iomap sparc: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP sh: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP powerpc: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP parisc: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP mips: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP microblaze: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP arm: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP alpha: switch to GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP lib: add GENERIC_PCI_IOMAP lib: move GENERIC_IOMAP to lib/Kconfig Fix up trivial conflicts due to changes nearby in arch/{m68k,score}/Kconfig

2011-11-09net: add wireless TX status socket optionJohannes Berg1-0/+3
The 802.1X EAPOL handshake hostapd does requires knowing whether the frame was ack'ed by the peer. Currently, we fudge this pretty badly by not even transmitting the frame as a normal data frame but injecting it with radiotap and getting the status out of radiotap monitor as well. This is rather complex, confuses users (mon.wlan0 presence) and doesn't work with all hardware. To get rid of that hack, introduce a real wifi TX status option for data frame transmissions. This works similar to the existing TX timestamping in that it reflects the SKB back to the socket's error queue with a SCM_WIFI_STATUS cmsg that has an int indicating ACK status (0/1). Since it is possible that at some point we will want to have TX timestamping and wifi status in a single errqueue SKB (there's little point in not doing that), redefine SO_EE_ORIGIN_TIMESTAMPING to SO_EE_ORIGIN_TXSTATUS which can collect more than just the timestamp; keep the old constant as an alias of course. Currently the internal APIs don't make that possible, but it wouldn't be hard to split them up in a way that makes it possible. Thanks to Neil Horman for helping me figure out the functions that add the control messages. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: John W. 2011-10-28compat: sync compat_stats with statfs.Eric W. Biederman1-1/+2
This was found by inspection while tracking a similar bug in compat_statfs64, that has been fixed in mainline since decemeber. - This fixes a bug where not all of the f_spare fields were cleared on mips and s390. - Add the f_flags field to struct compat_statfs - Copy f_flags to userspace in case someone cares. - Use __clear_user to copy the f_spare field to userspace to ensure that all of the elements of f_spare are cleared. On some architectures f_spare is has 5 ints and on some architectures f_spare only has 4 ints. Which makes the previous technique of clearing each int individually broken. I don't expect anyone actually uses the old statfs system call anymore but if they do let them benefit from having the compat and the native version working the same. Signed-off-by: Eric W.
