2018-10-24iov_iter: Separate type from direction and use accessor functionsDavid Howells1-3/+3
In the iov_iter struct, separate the iterator type from the iterator direction and use accessor functions to access them in most places. Convert a bunch of places to use switch-statements to access them rather then chains of bitwise-AND statements. This makes it easier to add further iterator types. Also, this can be more efficient as to implement a switch of small contiguous integers, the compiler can use ~50% fewer compare instructions than it has to use bitwise-and instructions. Further, cease passing the iterator type into the iterator setup function. The iterator function can set that itself. Only the direction is required. net/sched/cls_api.c has overlapping changes to a call to nlmsg_parse(), one (from 'net') added rtm_tca_policy instead of NULL to the 5th argument, and another (from 'net-next') added cb->extack instead of NULL to the 6th argument. net/ipv4/ipmr_base.c is a case of a bug fix in 'net' being done to code which moved (to mr_table_dump)) in 'net-next'. Thanks to David Ahern for the heads up. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2018-10-18net: socket: fix a missing-check bugWenwen Wang1-3/+8
In ethtool_ioctl(), the ioctl command 'ethcmd' is checked through a switch statement to see whether it is necessary to pre-process the ethtool structure, because, as mentioned in the comment, the structure ethtool_rxnfc is defined with padding. If yes, a user-space buffer 'rxnfc' is allocated through compat_alloc_user_space(). One thing to note here is that, if 'ethcmd' is ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLALL, the size of the buffer 'rxnfc' is partially determined by 'rule_cnt', which is actually acquired from the user-space buffer 'compat_rxnfc', i.e., 'compat_rxnfc->rule_cnt', through get_user(). After 'rxnfc' is allocated, the data in the original user-space buffer 'compat_rxnfc' is then copied to 'rxnfc' through copy_in_user(), including the 'rule_cnt' field. However, after this copy, no check is re-enforced on 'rxnfc->rule_cnt'. So it is possible that a malicious user race to change the value in the 'compat_rxnfc->rule_cnt' between these two copies. Through this way, the attacker can bypass the previous check on 'rule_cnt' and inject malicious data. This can cause undefined behavior of the kernel and introduce potential security risk. This patch avoids the above issue via copying the value acquired by get_user() to 'rxnfc->rule_cn', if 'ethcmd' is ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLALL. 2018-09-13socket: fix struct ifreq size in compat ioctlJohannes Berg1-8/+14
As reported by Reobert O'Callahan, since Viro's commit to kill dev_ifsioc() we attempt to copy too much data in compat mode, which may lead to EFAULT when the 32-bit version of struct ifreq sits at/near the end of a page boundary, and the next page isn't mapped. Fix this by passing the approprate compat/non-compat size to copy and using that, as before the dev_ifsioc() removal. This works because only the embedded "struct ifmap" has different size, and this is only used in SIOCGIFMAP/SIOCSIFMAP which has a different handler. All other parts of the union are naturally compatible. This fixes https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199469. 2018-08-29y2038: socket: Change recvmmsg to use __kernel_timespecArnd Bergmann1-10/+8
This converts the recvmmsg() system call in all its variations to use 'timespec64' internally for its timeout, and have a __kernel_timespec64 argument in the native entry point. This lets us change the type to use 64-bit time_t at a later point while using the 32-bit compat system call emulation for existing user space. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>

2018-06-28Revert changes to convert to ->poll_mask() and aio IOCB_CMD_POLLLinus Torvalds1-43/+5
The poll() changes were not well thought out, and completely unexplained. They also caused a huge performance regression, because "->poll()" was no longer a trivial file operation that just called down to the underlying file operations, but instead did at least two indirect calls. Indirect calls are sadly slow now with the Spectre mitigation, but the performance problem could at least be largely mitigated by changing the "->get_poll_head()" operation to just have a per-file-descriptor pointer to the poll head instead. That gets rid of one of the new indirections. But that doesn't fix the new complexity that is completely unwarranted for the regular case. The (undocumented) reason for the poll() changes was some alleged AIO poll race fixing, but we don't make the common case slower and more complex for some uncommon special case, so this all really needs way more explanations and most likely a fundamental redesign. 2018-06-10socket: close race condition between sock_close() and sockfs_setattr()Cong Wang1-3/+15
fchownat() doesn't even hold refcnt of fd until it figures out fd is really needed (otherwise is ignored) and releases it after it resolves the path. This means sock_close() could race with sockfs_setattr(), which leads to a NULL pointer dereference since typically we set sock->sk to NULL in ->release(). As pointed out by Al, this is unique to sockfs. So we can fix this in socket layer by acquiring inode_lock in sock_close() and checking against NULL in sockfs_setattr(). sock_release() is called in many places, only the sock_close() path matters here. And fortunately, this should not affect normal sock_close() as it is only called when the last fd refcnt is gone. It only affects sock_close() with a parallel sockfs_setattr() in progress, which is not common. Fixes: 86741ec25462 ("net: core: Add a UID field to struct sock.") 2018-04-02Merge branch 'syscalls-next' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-73/+161
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brodo/linux Pull removal of in-kernel calls to syscalls from Dominik Brodowski: "System calls are interaction points between userspace and the kernel. Therefore, system call functions such as sys_xyzzy() or compat_sys_xyzzy() should only be called from userspace via the syscall table, but not from elsewhere in the kernel. At least on 64-bit x86, it will likely be a hard requirement from v4.17 onwards to not call system call functions in the kernel: It is better to use use a different calling convention for system calls there, where struct pt_regs is decoded on-the-fly in a syscall wrapper which then hands processing over to the actual syscall function. This means that only those parameters which are actually needed for a specific syscall are passed on during syscall entry, instead of filling in six CPU registers with random user space content all the time (which may cause serious trouble down the call chain). Those x86-specific patches will be pushed through the x86 tree in the near future. Moreover, rules on how data may be accessed may differ between kernel data and user data. This is another reason why calling sys_xyzzy() is generally a bad idea, and -- at most -- acceptable in arch-specific code. 2018-04-02net: socket: move check for forbid_cmsg_compat to __sys_...msg()Dominik Brodowski1-15/+23
The non-compat codepaths for sys_...msg() verify that MSG_CMSG_COMPAT is not set. By moving this check to the __sys_...msg() functions (and making it dependent on a static flag passed to this function), we can call the __sys...msg() functions instead of the syscall functions in all cases. __sys_recvmmsg() does not need this trickery, as the check is handled within the do_sys_recvmmsg() function internal to net/socket.c. Fun set of conflict resolutions here... For the mac80211 stuff, these were fortunately just parallel adds. Trivially resolved. In drivers/net/phy/phy.c we had a bug fix in 'net' that moved the function phy_disable_interrupts() earlier in the file, whilst in 'net-next' the phy_error() call from this function was removed. In net/ipv4/xfrm4_policy.c, David Ahern's changes to remove the 'rt_table_id' member of rtable collided with a bug fix in 'net' that added a new struct member "rt_mtu_locked" which needs to be copied over here. The mlxsw driver conflict consisted of net-next separating the span code and definitions into separate files, whilst a 'net' bug fix made some changes to that moved code. The mlx5 infiniband conflict resolution was quite non-trivial, the RDMA tree's merge commit was used as a guide here, and here are their notes: ==================== Due to bug fixes found by the syzkaller bot and taken into the for-rc branch after development for the 4.17 merge window had already started being taken into the for-next branch, there were fairly non-trivial merge issues that would need to be resolved between the for-rc branch and the for-next branch. This merge resolves those conflicts and provides a unified base upon which ongoing development for 4.17 can be based. Conflicts: drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/main.c - Commit 42cea83f9524 (IB/mlx5: Fix cleanup order on unload) added to for-rc and commit b5ca15ad7e61 (IB/mlx5: Add proper representors support) add as part of the devel cycle both needed to modify the init/de-init functions used by mlx5. To support the new representors, the new functions added by the cleanup patch needed to be made non-static, and the init/de-init list added by the representors patch needed to be modified to match the init/de-init list changes made by the cleanup patch. Updates: drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/mlx5_ib.h - Update function prototypes added by representors patch to reflect new function names as changed by cleanup patch drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/ib_rep.c - Update init/de-init stage list to match new order from cleanup patch ==================== Signed-off-by: David S. 2018-03-12sock_diag: request _diag module only when the family or proto has been ↵Xin Long1-0/+5
registered Now when using 'ss' in iproute, kernel would try to load all _diag modules, which also causes corresponding family and proto modules to be loaded as well due to module dependencies. Like after running 'ss', sctp, dccp, af_packet (if it works as a module) would be loaded. For example: $ lsmod|grep sctp $ ss $ lsmod|grep sctp sctp_diag 16384 0 sctp 323584 5 sctp_diag inet_diag 24576 4 raw_diag,tcp_diag,sctp_diag,udp_diag libcrc32c 16384 3 nf_conntrack,nf_nat,sctp As these family and proto modules are loaded unintentionally, it could cause some problems, like: - Some debug tools use 'ss' to collect the socket info, which loads all those diag and family and protocol modules. It's noisy for identifying issues. - Users usually expect to drop sctp init packet silently when they have no sense of sctp protocol instead of sending abort back. - It wastes resources (especially with multiple netns), and SCTP module can't be unloaded once it's loaded. ... In short, it's really inappropriate to have these family and proto modules loaded unexpectedly when just doing debugging with inet_diag. This patch is to introduce sock_load_diag_module() where it loads the _diag module only when it's corresponding family or proto has been already registered. Note that we can't just load _diag module without the family or proto loaded, as some symbols used in _diag module are from the family or proto module. v1->v2: - move inet proto check to inet_diag to avoid a compiling err. v2->v3: - define sock_load_diag_module in sock.c and export one symbol only. - improve the changelog.
