Convert to struct mnt_idmap. Last cycle we merged the necessary infrastructure in 256c8aed2b42 ("fs: introduce dedicated idmap type for mounts"). This is just the conversion to struct mnt_idmap. Currently we still pass around the plain namespace that was attached to a mount. This is in general pretty convenient but it makes it easy to conflate namespaces that are relevant on the filesystem with namespaces that are relevent on the mount level. Especially for non-vfs developers without detailed knowledge in this area this can be a potential source for bugs. Once the conversion to struct mnt_idmap is done all helpers down to the really low-level helpers will take a struct mnt_idmap argument instead of two namespace arguments. This way it becomes impossible to conflate the two eliminating the possibility of any bugs. All of the vfs and all filesystems only operate on struct mnt_idmap. To fix this, when we failed in configfs_create(), manually call configfs_put(sd) to keep the refcount correct. When configfs_register_subsystem() or configfs_unregister_subsystem() is executing link_group() or unlink_group(), it is possible that two processes add or delete list concurrently. Some unfortunate interleavings of them can cause kernel panic. So I create a mutex configfs_subsystem_mutex. 2022-01-24fsnotify: fix fsnotify hooks in pseudo filesystemsAmir Goldstein1-3/+3
Commit 49246466a989 ("fsnotify: move fsnotify_nameremove() hook out of d_delete()") moved the fsnotify delete hook before d_delete() so fsnotify will have access to a positive dentry. This allowed a race where opening the deleted file via cached dentry is now possible after receiving the IN_DELETE event. To fix the regression in pseudo filesystems, convert d_delete() calls to d_drop() (see commit 46c46f8df9aa ("devpts_pty_kill(): don't bother with d_delete()") and move the fsnotify hook after d_drop(). Add a missing fsnotify_unlink() hook in nfsdfs that was found during the audit of fsnotify hooks in pseudo filesystems. Note that the fsnotify hooks in simple_recursive_removal() follow d_invalidate(), so they require no change. Commit 7fe1e79b59ba ("configfs: implement the .read_iter and .write_iter methods") changed the simple_read_from_buffer() calls into copy_to_iter() calls and the simple_write_to_buffer() calls into copy_from_iter() calls. The simple*buffer() methods update the file offset (*ppos) but the read and write iterators not yet. Make the read and write iterators update the file offset (iocb->ki_pos). Move the ramfs aops to libfs and reuse them for kernfs and configfs. Thosw two did not wire up ->set_page_dirty before and now get __set_page_dirty_no_writeback, which is the right one for no-writeback address_space usage. 2021-05-07treewide: remove editor modelines and cruftMasahiro Yamada7-21/+7
The section "19) Editor modelines and other cruft" in Documentation/process/coding-style.rst clearly says, "Do not include any of these in source files." I recently receive a patch to explicitly add a new one. Let's do treewide cleanups, otherwise some people follow the existing code and attempt to upstream their favoriate editor setups. It is even nicer if scripts/checkpatch.pl can check it. If we like to impose coding style in an editor-independent manner, I think editorconfig (patch [1]) is a saner solution. Commit b0841eefd969 ("configfs: provide exclusion between IO and removals") uses ->frag_dead to mark the fragment state, thus no bothering with extra refcount on config_item when opening a file. The configfs_get_config_item was removed in __configfs_open_file, but not with config_item_put. So the refcount on config_item will lost its balance, causing use-after-free issues in some occasions like this: Test: 1. 2021-01-24fs: make helpers idmap mount awareChristian Brauner4-6/+11
Extend some inode methods with an additional user namespace argument. A filesystem that is aware of idmapped mounts will receive the user namespace the mount has been marked with. This can be used for additional permission checking and also to enable filesystems to translate between uids and gids if they need to. We have implemented all relevant helpers in earlier patches. As requested we simply extend the exisiting inode method instead of introducing new ones. This is a little more code churn but it's mostly mechanical and doesnt't leave us with additional inode methods. 2021-01-24namei: make permission helpers idmapped mount awareChristian Brauner1-1/+2
The two helpers inode_permission() and generic_permission() are used by the vfs to perform basic permission checking by verifying that the caller is privileged over an inode. In order to handle idmapped mounts we extend the two helpers with an additional user namespace argument. On idmapped mounts the two helpers will make sure to map the inode according to the mount's user namespace and then peform identical permission checks to inode_permission() and generic_permission(). If the initial user namespace is passed nothing changes so non-idmapped mounts will see identical behavior as before. 2020-04-27configfs: fix config_item refcnt leak in configfs_rmdir()Xiyu Yang1-0/+1
configfs_rmdir() invokes configfs_get_config_item(), which returns a reference of the specified config_item object to "parent_item" with increased refcnt. When configfs_rmdir() returns, local variable "parent_item" becomes invalid, so the refcount should be decreased to keep refcount balanced. The reference counting issue happens in one exception handling path of configfs_rmdir(). When down_write_killable() fails, the function forgets to decrease the refcnt increased by configfs_get_config_item(), causing a refcnt leak. Fix this issue by calling config_item_put() when down_write_killable() fails. 2019-09-11configfs: fix a deadlock in configfs_symlink()Al Viro1-1/+32
Configfs abuses symlink(2). Unlike the normal filesystems, it wants the target resolved at symlink(2) time, like link(2) would've done. The problem is that ->symlink() is called with the parent directory locked exclusive, so resolving the target inside the ->symlink() is easily deadlocked. Short of really ugly games in sys_symlink() itself, all we can do is to unlock the parent before resolving the target and relock it after. However, that invalidates the checks done by the caller of ->symlink(), so we have to * check that dentry is still where it used to be (it couldn't have been moved, but it could've been unhashed) * recheck that it's still negative (somebody else might've successfully created a symlink with the same name while we were looking the target up) * recheck the permissions on the parent directory. Make sure that attribute methods are not called after the item has been removed from the tree. To do so, we * at the point of no return in removals, grab ->frag_sem exclusive and mark the fragment dead. * call the methods of attributes with ->frag_sem taken shared and only after having verified that the fragment is still alive. The main benefit is for method instances - they are guaranteed that the objects they are accessing *and* all ancestors are still there. Another win is that we don't need to bother with extra refcount on config_item when opening a file - the item will be alive for as long as it stays in the tree, and we won't touch it/attributes/any associated data after it's been removed from the tree.
