2020-12-14net: openvswitch: fix TTL decrement exception action executionEelco Chaudron1-9/+6
Currently, the exception actions are not processed correctly as the wrong dataset is passed. This change fixes this, including the misleading comment. In addition, a check was added to make sure we work on an IPv4 packet, and not just assume if it's not IPv6 it's IPv4. This was all tested using OVS with patch, https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/openvswitch/list/?series=21639, applied and sending packets with a TTL of 1 (and 0), both with IPv4 and IPv6. 2020-11-27net: openvswitch: fix TTL decrement action netlink message formatEelco Chaudron1-4/+3
Currently, the openvswitch module is not accepting the correctly formated netlink message for the TTL decrement action. For both setting and getting the dec_ttl action, the actions should be nested in the OVS_DEC_TTL_ATTR_ACTION attribute as mentioned in the openvswitch.h uapi. When the original patch was sent, it was tested with a private OVS userspace implementation. This implementation was unfortunately not upstreamed and reviewed, hence an erroneous version of this patch was sent out. Leaving the patch as-is would cause problems as the kernel module could interpret additional attributes as actions and vice-versa, due to the actions not being encapsulated/nested within the actual attribute, but being concatinated after it. 2020-10-03net/sched: act_vlan: Add {POP,PUSH}_ETH actionsGuillaume Nault1-18/+10
Implement TCA_VLAN_ACT_POP_ETH and TCA_VLAN_ACT_PUSH_ETH, to respectively pop and push a base Ethernet header at the beginning of a frame. POP_ETH is just a matter of pulling ETH_HLEN bytes. VLAN tags, if any, must be stripped before calling POP_ETH. PUSH_ETH is restricted to skbs with no mac_header, and only the MAC addresses can be configured. The Ethertype is automatically set from skb->protocol. These restrictions ensure that all skb's fields remain consistent, so that this action can't confuse other part of the networking stack (like GSO). 2020-06-24openvswitch: take into account de-fragmentation/gso_size in ↵Lorenzo Bianconi1-2/+7
execute_check_pkt_len ovs connection tracking module performs de-fragmentation on incoming fragmented traffic. Take info account if traffic has been de-fragmented in execute_check_pkt_len action otherwise we will perform the wrong nested action considering the original packet size. This issue typically occurs if ovs-vswitchd adds a rule in the pipeline that requires connection tracking (e.g. OVN stateful ACLs) before execute_check_pkt_len action. 2020-02-16openvswitch: add TTL decrement actionMatteo Croce1-0/+67
New action to decrement TTL instead of setting it to a fixed value. This action will decrement the TTL and, in case of expired TTL, drop it or execute an action passed via a nested attribute. The default TTL expired action is to drop the packet. Supports both IPv4 and IPv6 via the ttl and hop_limit fields, respectively. 2019-12-24openvswitch: New MPLS actions for layer 2 tunnellingMartin Varghese1-6/+24
The existing PUSH MPLS action inserts MPLS header between ethernet header and the IP header. Though this behaviour is fine for L3 VPN where an IP packet is encapsulated inside a MPLS tunnel, it does not suffice the L2 VPN (l2 tunnelling) requirements. In L2 VPN the MPLS header should encapsulate the ethernet packet. The new mpls action ADD_MPLS inserts MPLS header at the start of the packet or at the start of the l3 header depending on the value of l3 tunnel flag in the ADD_MPLS arguments. On TC egress, we can't rely on the value of skb->mac_len, because it's 0 and a MPLS 'push' operation will result in an overwrite of the first 4 octets in the packet L2 header (e.g. the Destination Address if eth0 is an Ethernet); the same error pattern is present also in the MPLS 'pop' operation. 2019-06-30net: openvswitch: fix csum updates for MPLS actionsJohn Hurley1-4/+2
Skbs may have their checksum value populated by HW. If this is a checksum calculated over the entire packet then the CHECKSUM_COMPLETE field is marked. Changes to the data pointer on the skb throughout the network stack still try to maintain this complete csum value if it is required through functions such as skb_postpush_rcsum. The MPLS actions in Open vSwitch modify a CHECKSUM_COMPLETE value when changes are made to packet data without a push or a pull. This occurs when the ethertype of the MAC header is changed or when MPLS lse fields are modified. The modification is carried out using the csum_partial function to get the csum of a buffer and add it into the larger checksum. The buffer is an inversion of the data to be removed followed by the new data. Because the csum is calculated over 16 bits and these values align with 16 bits, the effect is the removal of the old value from the CHECKSUM_COMPLETE and addition of the new value. However, the csum fed into the function and the outcome of the calculation are also inverted. This would only make sense if it was the new value rather than the old that was inverted in the input buffer. Fix the issue by removing the bit inverts in the csum_partial calculation. The bug was verified and the fix tested by comparing the folded value of the updated CHECKSUM_COMPLETE value with the folded value of a full software checksum calculation (reset skb->csum to 0 and run skb_checksum_complete(skb)). Prior to the fix the outcomes differed but after they produce the same result. This patch adds a new action - 'check_pkt_len' which checks the packet length and executes a set of actions if the packet length is greater than the specified length or executes another set of actions if the packet length is lesser or equal to. This action takes below nlattrs * OVS_CHECK_PKT_LEN_ATTR_PKT_LEN - 'pkt_len' to check for * OVS_CHECK_PKT_LEN_ATTR_ACTIONS_IF_GREATER - Nested actions to apply if the packet length is greater than the specified 'pkt_len' * OVS_CHECK_PKT_LEN_ATTR_ACTIONS_IF_LESS_EQUAL - Nested actions to apply if the packet length is lesser or equal to the specified 'pkt_len'. The main use case for adding this action is to solve the packet drops because of MTU mismatch in OVN virtual networking solution. When a VM (which belongs to a logical switch of OVN) sends a packet destined to go via the gateway router and if the nic which provides external connectivity, has a lesser MTU, OVS drops the packet if the packet length is greater than this MTU. With the help of this action, OVN will check the packet length and if it is greater than the MTU size, it will generate an ICMP packet (type 3, code 4) and includes the next hop mtu in it so that the sender can fragment the packets. For sw_flow_actions, the actions_len only represents the kernel part's size, and when we dump the actions to the userspace, we will do the convertions, so it's true size may become bigger than the actions_len. 2017-03-22openvswitch: Optimize sample action for the clone use casesandy zhou1-52/+55
With the introduction of open flow 'clone' action, the OVS user space can now translate the 'clone' action into kernel datapath 'sample' action, with 100% probability, to ensure that the clone semantics, which is that the packet seen by the clone action is the same as the packet seen by the action after clone, is faithfully carried out in the datapath. While the sample action in the datpath has the matching semantics, its implementation is only optimized for its original use. Specifically, there are two limitation: First, there is a 3 level of nesting restriction, enforced at the flow downloading time. This limit turns out to be too restrictive for the 'clone' use case. Second, the implementation avoid recursive call only if the sample action list has a single userspace action. The main optimization implemented in this series removes the static nesting limit check, instead, implement the run time recursion limit check, and recursion avoidance similar to that of the 'recirc' action. This optimization solve both #1 and #2 issues above. One related optimization attempts to avoid copying flow key as long as the actions enclosed does not change the flow key. The detection is performed only once at the flow downloading time. Another related optimization is to rewrite the action list at flow downloading time in order to save the fast path from parsing the sample action list in its original form repeatedly. 2017-02-09openvswitch: Add original direction conntrack tuple to sw_flow_key.Jarno Rajahalme1-0/+2
Add the fields of the conntrack original direction 5-tuple to struct sw_flow_key. The new fields are initially marked as non-existent, and are populated whenever a conntrack action is executed and either finds or generates a conntrack entry. This means that these fields exist for all packets that were not rejected by conntrack as untrackable. The original tuple fields in the sw_flow_key are filled from the original direction tuple of the conntrack entry relating to the current packet, or from the original direction tuple of the master conntrack entry, if the current conntrack entry has a master. Generally, expected connections of connections having an assigned helper (e.g., FTP), have a master conntrack entry. The main purpose of the new conntrack original tuple fields is to allow matching on them for policy decision purposes, with the premise that the admissibility of tracked connections reply packets (as well as original direction packets), and both direction packets of any related connections may be based on ACL rules applying to the master connection's original direction 5-tuple. This also makes it easier to make policy decisions when the actual packet headers might have been transformed by NAT, as the original direction 5-tuple represents the packet headers before any such transformation. When using the original direction 5-tuple the admissibility of return and/or related packets need not be based on the mere existence of a conntrack entry, allowing separation of admission policy from the established conntrack state. While existence of a conntrack entry is required for admission of the return or related packets, policy changes can render connections that were initially admitted to be rejected or dropped afterwards. If the admission of the return and related packets was based on mere conntrack state (e.g., connection being in an established state), a policy change that would make the connection rejected or dropped would need to find and delete all conntrack entries affected by such a change. When using the original direction 5-tuple matching the affected conntrack entries can be allowed to time out instead, as the established state of the connection would not need to be the basis for packet admission any more. It should be noted that the directionality of related connections may be the same or different than that of the master connection, and neither the original direction 5-tuple nor the conntrack state bits carry this information. If needed, the directionality of the master connection can be stored in master's conntrack mark or labels, which are automatically inherited by the expected related connections. The fact that neither ARP nor ND packets are trackable by conntrack allows mutual exclusion between ARP/ND and the new conntrack original tuple fields. Hence, the IP addresses are overlaid in union with ARP and ND fields. This allows the sw_flow_key to not grow much due to this patch, but it also means that we must be careful to never use the new key fields with ARP or ND packets. ARP is easy to distinguish and keep mutually exclusive based on the ethernet type, but ND being an ICMPv6 protocol requires a bit more attention. 2016-11-13openvswitch: add mac_proto field to the flow keyJiri Benc1-11/+3
Use a hole in the structure. We support only Ethernet so far and will add a support for L2-less packets shortly. We could use a bool to indicate whether the Ethernet header is present or not but the approach with the mac_proto field is more generic and occupies the same number of bytes in the struct, while allowing later extensibility. It also makes the code in the next patches more self explaining. It would be nice to use ARPHRD_ constants but those are u16 which would be waste. Thus define our own constants. Another upside of this is that we can overload this new field to also denote whether the flow key is valid. This has the advantage that on refragmentation, we don't have to reparse the packet but can rely on the stored eth.type. This is especially important for the next patches in this series - instead of adding another branch for L2-less packets before calling ovs_fragment, we can just remove all those branches completely. The ovs kernel data path currently defers the execution of all recirc actions until stack utilization is at a minimum. This is too limiting for some packet forwarding scenarios due to the small size of the deferred action FIFO (10 entries). For example, broadcast traffic sent out more than 10 ports with recirculation results in packet drops when the deferred action FIFO becomes full, as reported here: http://openvswitch.org/pipermail/dev/2016-March/067672.html Since the current recursion depth is available (it is already tracked by the exec_actions_level pcpu variable), we can use it to determine whether to execute recirculation actions immediately (safe when recursion depth is low) or defer execution until more stack space is available. With this change, the deferred action fifo size becomes a non-issue for currently failing scenarios because it is no longer used when there are three or fewer recursions through ovs_execute_actions(). 2016-08-30net: mpls: Fixups for GSODavid Ahern1-2/+7
As reported by Lennert the MPLS GSO code is failing to properly segment large packets. There are a couple of problems: 1. the inner protocol is not set so the gso segment functions for inner protocol layers are not getting run, and 2 MPLS labels for packets that use the "native" (non-OVS) MPLS code are not properly accounted for in mpls_gso_segment. The MPLS GSO code was added for OVS. It is re-using skb_mac_gso_segment to call the gso segment functions for the higher layer protocols. That means skb_mac_gso_segment is called twice -- once with the network protocol set to MPLS and again with the network protocol set to the inner protocol. This patch sets the inner skb protocol addressing item 1 above and sets the network_header and inner_network_header to mark where the MPLS labels start and end. The MPLS code in OVS is also updated to set the two network markers. >From there the MPLS GSO code uses the difference between the network header and the inner network header to know the size of the MPLS header that was pushed. It then pulls the MPLS header, resets the mac_len and protocol for the inner protocol and then calls skb_mac_gso_segment to segment the skb. Afterward the inner protocol segmentation is done the skb protocol is set to mpls for each segment and the network and mac headers restored. It was seen that defective configurations of openvswitch could overwrite the STACK_END_MAGIC and cause a hard crash of the kernel because of too many recursions within ovs. This problem arises due to the high stack usage of openvswitch. The rest of the kernel is fine with the current limit of 10 (RECURSION_LIMIT). We use the already existing recursion counter in ovs_execute_actions to implement an upper bound of 5 recursions.
