2022-05-19fat: remove time truncations in vfat_create/vfat_mkdirChung-Chiang Cheng1-21/+0
All the timestamps in vfat_create() and vfat_mkdir() come from fat_time_fat2unix() which ensures time granularity. We don't need to truncate them to fit FAT's format. Moreover, fat_truncate_crtime() and fat_timespec64_trunc_10ms() are also removed because there is no caller anymore. 2022-05-19fat: ignore ctime updates, and keep ctime identical to mtime in memoryChung-Chiang Cheng1-3/+6
FAT supports creation time but not change time, and there was no corresponding timestamp for creation time in previous VFS. The original implementation took the compromise of saving the in-memory change time into the on-disk creation time field, but this would lead to compatibility issues with non-linux systems. To address this issue, this patch changes the behavior of ctime. It will no longer be loaded and stored from the creation time on disk. Instead of that, it'll be consistent with the in-memory mtime and share the same on-disk field. All updates to mtime will also be applied to ctime in memory, while all updates to ctime will be ignored. 2022-05-19fat: split fat_truncate_time() into separate functionsChung-Chiang Cheng1-27/+47
Separate fat_truncate_time() to each timestamps for later creation time work. This patch does not introduce any functional changes, it's merely refactoring change. 2022-04-29fatfs: add FAT messages to printk indexJonathan Lassoff1-4/+10
In order for end users to quickly react to new issues that come up in production, it is proving useful to leverage the printk indexing system. This printk index enables kernel developers to use calls to printk() with changeable ad-hoc format strings (as they always have; no change of expectations), while enabling end users to examine format strings to detect changes. Since end users are using regular expressions to match messages printed through printk(), being able to detect changes in chosen format strings from release to release provides a useful signal to review printk()-matching regular expressions for any necessary updates. So that detailed FAT messages are captured by this printk index, this patch wraps fat_msg with a macro. 2021-08-13fat: Add KUnit tests for checksums and timestampsDavid Gow1-0/+3
Add some basic sanity-check tests for the fat_checksum() function and the fat_time_unix2fat() and fat_time_fat2unix() functions. These unit tests verify these functions return correct output for a number of test inputs. These tests were inspired by -- and serve a similar purpose to -- the timestamp parsing KUnit tests in ext4[1]. Note that, unlike fat_time_unix2fat, fat_time_fat2unix wasn't previously exported, so this patch exports it as well. This is required for the case where we're building the fat and fat_test as modules. 2021-01-13fat: only specify I_DIRTY_TIME when needed in fat_update_time()Eric Biggers1-11/+12
As was done for generic_update_time(), only pass I_DIRTY_TIME to __mark_inode_dirty() when the inode's timestamps were actually updated and lazytime is enabled. This avoids a weird edge case where I_DIRTY_TIME could be set in i_state when lazytime isn't enabled. 2019-12-08fs: fat: Eliminate timespec64_trunc() usageDeepa Dinamani1-1/+9
timespec64_trunc() is being deleted. timestamp_truncate() is the replacement api for timespec64_trunc. timestamp_truncate() additionally clamps timestamps to make sure the timestamps lie within the permitted range for the filesystem. But, fat always truncates the times locally after it obtains the timestamps from current_time(). Implement a local version here along the lines of existing truncate functions. 2018-10-31fat: create a function to calculate the timezone offestFrank Sorenson1-7/+9
Patch series "fat: timestamp updates", v5. fat/msdos timestamps are stored on-disk with several different granularities, some of them lower resolution than timespec64_trunc() can provide. In addition, they are only truncated as they are written to disk, so the timestamps in-memory for new or modified files/directories may be different from the same timestamps after a remount, as the now-truncated times are re-read from the on-disk format. These patches allow finer granularity for the timestamps where possible and add fat-specific ->update_time inode operation and fat_truncate_time functions to truncate each timestamp correctly, giving consistent times across remounts. This patch (of 4): Move the calculation of the number of seconds in the timezone offset to a common function. 2018-08-22fat: propagate 64-bit inode timestampsArnd Bergmann1-6/+7
Now that we pass down 64-bit timestamps from VFS, we just need to convert that correctly into on-disk timestamps. To make that work correctly, this changes the last use of time_to_tm() in the kernel to time64_to_tm(), which also lets use remove that deprecated interfaces. Similarly, the time_t use in fat_time_fat2unix() truncates the timestamp on the way in, which can be avoided by using types that are wide enough to hold the intermediate values during the conversion. 2017-11-27Rename superblock flags (MS_xyz -> SB_xyz)Linus Torvalds1-1/+1
This is a pure automated search-and-replace of the internal kernel superblock flags. The s_flags are now called SB_*, with the names and the values for the moment mirroring the MS_* flags that they're equivalent to. 2012-12-17fat: provide option for setting timezone offsetJan Kara1-3/+6
So far FAT either offsets time stamps by sys_tz.minuteswest or leaves them as they are (when tz=UTC mount option is used). However in some cases it is useful if one can specify time stamp offset on his own (e.g. when time zone of the camera connected is different from time zone of the computer, or when HW clock is in UTC and thus sys_tz.minuteswest == 0). So provide a mount option time_offset= which allows user to specify offset in minutes that should be applied to time stamps on the filesystem. akpm: this code would work incorrectly when used via `mount -o remount', because cached inodes would not be updated. 2008-07-25fatfs: add UTC timestamp optionJoe Peterson1-4/+6
Provide a new mount option ("tz=UTC") for DOS (vfat/msdos) filesystems, allowing timestamps to be in coordinated universal time (UTC) rather than local time in applications where doing this is advantageous. In particular, portable devices that use fat/vfat (such as digital cameras) can benefit from using UTC in their internal clocks, thus avoiding daylight saving time errors and general time ambiguity issues. The user of the device does not have to worry about changing the time when moving from place or when daylight saving changes. The new mount option, when set, disables the counter-adjustment that Linux currently makes to FAT timestamp info in anticipation of the normal userspace time zone correction. When used in this new mode, all daylight saving time and time zone handling is done in userspace as is normal for many other filesystems (like ext3). The default mode, which remains unchanged, is still appropriate when mounting volumes written in Windows (because of its use of local time). I originally based this patch on one submitted last year by Paul Collins, but I updated it to work with current source and changed variable/option naming. Ogawa Hirofumi (who maintains these filesystems) and I discussed this patch at length on lkml, and he suggested using the option name in the attached version of the patch. 2006-01-08[PATCH] fat: s/EXPORT_SYMBOL/EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL/OGAWA Hirofumi1-3/+3
All EXPORT_SYMBOL of fatfs is only for vfat/msdos. _GPL would be proper. Signed-off-by: OGAWA Hirofumi <hirofumi@mail.parknet.co.jp> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-01-08[PATCH] fat: move fat_clusters_flush() to write_super()OGAWA Hirofumi1-2/+0
It is overkill to update the FS_INFO whenever modifying prev_free/free_clusters, because those are just a hint. So, this patch uses ->write_super() for updating FS_INFO instead. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
