2023-12-15btrfs: migrate extent_buffer::pages[] to folioQu Wenruo1-2/+2
For now extent_buffer::pages[] are still only accepting single page pointer, thus we can migrate to folios pretty easily. As for single page, page and folio are 1:1 mapped, including their page flags. This patch would just do the conversion from struct page to struct folio, providing the first step to higher order folio in the future. This conversion is pretty simple: - extent_buffer::pages[] -> extent_buffer::folios[] - page_address(eb->pages[i]) -> folio_address(eb->pages[i]) - eb->pages[i] -> folio_page(eb->folios[i], 0) There would be more specific cleanups preparing for the incoming higher order folio support. Enhance extent bitmap tests for the following aspects: - Remove unnecessary @len from __test_eb_bitmaps() We can fetch the length from extent buffer - Explicitly distinguish bit and byte length Now every start/len inside bitmap tests would have either "byte_" or "bit_" prefix to make it more explicit. - Better error reporting If we have mismatch bits, the error report would dump the following contents: * start bytenr * bit number * the full byte from bitmap * the full byte from the extent This is to save developers time so obvious problem can be found immediately - Extract bitmap set/clear and check operation into two helpers This is to save some code lines, as we will have more tests to do. - Add new tests The following tests are added, mostly for the incoming extent bitmap accessor refactoring: * Set bits inside the same byte * Clear bits inside the same byte * Cross byte boundary set * Cross byte boundary clear * Cross multi-byte boundary set * Cross multi-byte boundary clear Those new tests have already saved my backend for the incoming extent buffer bitmap refactoring. 2022-09-26btrfs: unify the lock/unlock extent variantsJosef Bacik1-3/+3
We have two variants of lock/unlock extent, one set that takes a cached state, another that does not. This is slightly annoying, and generally speaking there are only a few places where we don't have a cached state. Simplify this by making lock_extent/unlock_extent the only variant and make it take a cached state, then convert all the callers appropriately. Converted function to use folios throughout. This is in preparation for the removal of find_get_pages_contig(). Now also supports large folios. Since we may receive more than nr_pages pages, nr_pages may underflow. Since nr_pages > 0 is equivalent to index <= end_index, we replaced it with this check instead. To make it easier to expose the problem, dump the extent io tree if the selftest failed. This can save developers debug time, especially since the selftest we can not use the trace events, thus have to manually add debug trace points. 2021-10-26btrfs: subpage: avoid potential deadlock with compression and delallocQu Wenruo1-6/+6
[BUG] With experimental subpage compression enabled, a simple fsstress can lead to self deadlock on page 720896: mkfs.btrfs -f -s 4k $dev > /dev/null mount $dev -o compress $mnt $fsstress -p 1 -n 100 -w -d $mnt -v -s 1625511156 [CAUSE] If we have a file layout looks like below: 0 32K 64K 96K 128K |//| |///////////////| 4K Then we run delalloc range for the inode, it will: - Call find_lock_delalloc_range() with @delalloc_start = 0 Then we got a delalloc range [0, 4K). This range will be COWed. - Call find_lock_delalloc_range() again with @delalloc_start = 4K Since find_lock_delalloc_range() never cares whether the range is still inside page range [0, 64K), it will return range [64K, 128K). This range meets the condition for subpage compression, will go through async COW path. And async COW path will return @page_started. But that @page_started is now for range [64K, 128K), not for range [0, 64K). - writepage_dellloc() returned 1 for page [0, 64K) Thus page [0, 64K) will not be unlocked, nor its page dirty status will be cleared. Next time when we try to lock page [0, 64K) we will deadlock, as there is no one to release page [0, 64K). This problem will never happen for regular page size as one page only contains one sector. After the first find_lock_delalloc_range() call, the @delalloc_end will go beyond @page_end no matter if we found a delalloc range or not Thus this bug only happens for subpage, as now we need multiple runs to exhaust the delalloc range of a page. [FIX] Fix the problem by ensuring the delalloc range we ran at least started inside @locked_page. So that we will never get incorrect @page_started. And to prevent such problem from happening again: - Make find_lock_delalloc_range() return false if the found range is beyond @end value passed in. Since @end will be utilized now, add an ASSERT() to ensure we pass correct @end into find_lock_delalloc_range(). This also means, for selftests we needs to populate @end before calling find_lock_delalloc_range(). - New ASSERT() in find_lock_delalloc_range() Now we will make sure the @start/@end passed in at least covers part of the page. - New ASSERT() in run_delalloc_range() To make sure the range at least starts inside @locked page. - Use @delalloc_start as proper cursor, while @delalloc_end is always reset to @page_end. 2020-12-08btrfs: tests: remove invalid extent-io testQu Wenruo1-15/+11
In extent-io-test, there are two invalid tests: - Invalid nodesize for test_eb_bitmaps() Instead of the sectorsize and nodesize combination passed in, we're always using hand-crafted nodesize, e.g: len = (sectorsize < BTRFS_MAX_METADATA_BLOCKSIZE) ? sectorsize * 4 : sectorsize; In above case, if we have 32K page size, then we will get a length of 128K, which is beyond max node size, and obviously invalid. The common page size goes up to 64K so we haven't hit that - Invalid extent buffer bytenr For 64K page size, the only combination we're going to test is sectorsize = nodesize = 64K. However, in that case we will try to test an eb which bytenr is not sectorsize aligned: /* Do it over again with an extent buffer which isn't page-aligned. */ eb = __alloc_dummy_extent_buffer(fs_info, nodesize / 2, len); Sector alignment is a hard requirement for any sector size. The only exception is superblock. But anything else should follow sector size alignment. This is definitely an invalid test case. This patch will fix both problems by: - Honor the sectorsize/nodesize combination Now we won't bother to hand-craft the length and use it as nodesize. - Use sectorsize as the 2nd run extent buffer start This would test the case where extent buffer is aligned to sectorsize but not always aligned to nodesize. Please note that, later subpage related cleanup will reduce extent_buffer::pages[] to exactly what we need, making the sector unaligned extent buffer operations cause problems. Since only extent_io self tests utilize this, this patch is required for all later cleanup/refactoring. Initially I thought this wasn't possible and as a percaution have put the assert in find_first_clear_extent_bit. Turns out this is indeed possible and could happen when a file system with SINGLE data/metadata profile has a 2nd device added. Until balance is run or a new chunk is allocated on this device it will be completely empty. In this case find_first_clear_extent_bit should return the full range [0, -1ULL] and let the caller handle this i.e for trim the end will be capped at the size of actual device. find_first_clear_extent_bit Currently find_first_clear_extent_bit always returns a range whose starting value is >= passed 'start'. This implicit trimming behavior is somewhat subtle and an implementation detail. Instead, this patch modifies the function such that now it always returns the range which contains passed 'start' and has the given bits unset. This range could either be due to presence of existing records which contains 'start' but have the bits unset or because there are no records that contain the given starting offset. This patch also adds test cases which cover find_first_clear_extent_bit since they were missing up until now. The fs_info is not freed at the end of the function and leaks. The function is called twice so there can be up to 2x sizeof(struct btrfs_fs_info) of leaked memory. Btrfs has the following different extent_io_trees used: - fs_info::free_extents[2] - btrfs_inode::io_tree - for both normal inodes and the btree inode - btrfs_inode::io_failure_tree - btrfs_transaction::dirty_pages - btrfs_root::dirty_log_pages If we want to trace changes in those trees, it will be pretty hard to distinguish them. This patch will add a new member fs_info to extent_io_tree. This provides the basis for later trace events to distinguish the output between different btrfs filesystems. While this increases the size of the structure, we want to know the source of the trace events and passing the fs_info as an argument to all contexts is not possible. Several functions in BTRFS are only used inside the source file they are declared if CONFIG_BTRFS_FS_RUN_SANITY_TESTS is not defined. However if CONFIG_BTRFS_FS_RUN_SANITY_TESTS is defined these functions are shared with the unit tests code. Before the introduction of the EXPORT_FOR_TESTS macro, these functions could not be declared as static and the compiler had a harder task when optimizing and inlining them. As we have EXPORT_FOR_TESTS now, use it where appropriate to support the compiler. 2018-12-17btrfs: Remove extent_io_ops::set_bit_hook extent_io callbackNikolay Borisov1-1/+1
This callback is used to properly account delalloc extents for data inodes (ordinary file inodes and freespace v1 inodes). Those can be easily identified since they have their extent_io trees ->private_data member point to the inode. Let's exploit this fact to remove the needless indirection through extent_io_hooks and directly call the function. Also give the function a name which reflects its purpose - btrfs_set_delalloc_extent. This patch also modified test_find_delalloc so that the extent_io_tree used for testing doesn't have its ->private_data set which would have caused a crash in btrfs_set_delalloc_extent due to the btrfs_inode->root member not being initialised. The old version of the code also didn't call set_bit_hook since the extent_io ops weren't set for the inode. No functional changes. 2017-11-15Btrfs: fix reported number of inode blocks after buffered append writesFilipe Manana1-3/+3
The patch from commit a7e3b975a0f9 ("Btrfs: fix reported number of inode blocks") introduced a regression where if we do a buffered write starting at position equal to or greater than the file's size and then stat(2) the file before writeback is triggered, the number of used blocks does not change (unless there's a prealloc/unwritten extent). Example: $ xfs_io -f -c "pwrite -S 0xab 0 64K" foobar $ du -h foobar 0 foobar $ sync $ du -h foobar 64K foobar The first version of that patch didn't had this regression and the second version, which was the one committed, was made only to address some performance regression detected by the intel test robots using fs_mark. This fixes the regression by setting the new delaloc bit in the range, and doing it at btrfs_dirty_pages() while setting the regular dealloc bit as well, so that this way we set both bits at once avoiding navigation of the inode's io tree twice. Doing it at btrfs_dirty_pages() is also the most meaninful place, as we should set the new dellaloc bit when if we set the delalloc bit, which happens only if we copied bytes into the pages at __btrfs_buffered_write(). For extent_io tree's we have carried the address_mapping of the inode around in the io tree in order to pull the inode back out for calling into various tree ops hooks. This works fine when everything that has an extent_io_tree has an inode. But we are going to remove the btree_inode, so we need to change this. Instead just have a generic void * for private data that we can initialize with, and have all the tree ops use that instead. This had a lot of cascading changes but should be relatively straightforward. The in-memory bitmap code manipulates words and is therefore sensitive to endianness, while the extent buffer bitmap code addresses bytes and is byte-order agnostic. Because the byte addressing of the extent buffer bitmaps is equivalent to a little-endian in-memory bitmap, the extent buffer bitmap tests fail on big-endian systems. 34b3e6c92af1 ("Btrfs: self-tests: Fix extent buffer bitmap test fail on BE system") worked around another endianness bug in the tests but missed this one because ed9e4afdb055 ("Btrfs: self-tests: Execute page straddling test only when nodesize < PAGE_SIZE") disables this part of the test on ppc64. That change lost the original meaning of the test, however. We really want to test that an equivalent series of operations using the in-memory bitmap API and the extent buffer bitmap API produces equivalent results. To fix this, don't use memcmp_extent_buffer() or write_extent_buffer(); do everything bit-by-bit. In __test_eb_bitmaps(), we write random data to a bitmap. Then copy the bitmap to another bitmap that resides inside an extent buffer. Later we verify the values of corresponding bits in the bitmap and the bitmap inside the extent buffer. However, extent_buffer_test_bit() reads in byte granularity while test_bit() reads in unsigned long granularity. Hence we end up comparing wrong bits on big-endian systems such as ppc64. This commit fixes the issue by reading the bitmap in byte granularity.
