2021-10-07btrfs: unify lookup return value when dir entry is missingFilipe Manana1-11/+37
btrfs_lookup_dir_index_item() and btrfs_lookup_dir_item() lookup for dir entries and both are used during log replay or when updating a log tree during an unlink. However when the dir item does not exists, btrfs_lookup_dir_item() returns NULL while btrfs_lookup_dir_index_item() returns PTR_ERR(-ENOENT), and if the dir item exists but there is no matching entry for a given name or index, both return NULL. This makes the call sites during log replay to be more verbose than necessary and it makes it easy to miss this slight difference. Since we don't need to distinguish between those two cases, make btrfs_lookup_dir_index_item() always return NULL when there is no matching directory entry - either because there isn't any dir entry or because there is one but it does not match the given name and index. Also rename the argument 'objectid' of btrfs_lookup_dir_index_item() to 'index' since it is supposed to match an index number, and the name 'objectid' is not very good because it can easily be confused with an inode number (like the inode number a dir entry points to). 2021-08-23btrfs: introduce btrfs_lookup_match_dirMarcos Paulo de Souza1-37/+39
btrfs_search_slot is called in multiple places in dir-item.c to search for a dir entry, and then calling btrfs_match_dir_name to return a btrfs_dir_item. In order to reduce the number of callers of btrfs_search_slot, create a common function that looks for the dir key, and if found call btrfs_match_dir_item_name. 2018-03-26btrfs: Remove custom crc32c init codeNikolay Borisov1-1/+0
The custom crc32 init code was introduced in 14a958e678cd ("Btrfs: fix btrfs boot when compiled as built-in") to enable using btrfs as a built-in. However, later as pointed out by 60efa5eb2e88 ("Btrfs: use late_initcall instead of module_init") this wasn't enough and finally btrfs was switched to late_initcall which comes after the generic crc32c implementation is initiliased. The latter commit superseeded the former. Now that we don't have to maintain our own code let's just remove it and switch to using the generic implementation. Despite touching a lot of files the patch is really simple. Here is the gist of the changes: 1. Select LIBCRC32C rather than the low-level modules. 2. s/btrfs_crc32c/crc32c/g 3. replace hash.h with linux/crc32c.h 4. Move the btrfs namehash funcs to ctree.h and change the tree accordingly. I've tested this with btrfs being both a module and a built-in and xfstest doesn't complain. Does seem to fix the longstanding problem of not automatically selectiong the crc32c module when btrfs is used. Possibly there is a workaround in dracut. The modinfo confirms that now all the module dependencies are there: before: depends: zstd_compress,zstd_decompress,raid6_pq,xor,zlib_deflate after: depends: libcrc32c,zstd_compress,zstd_decompress,raid6_pq,xor,zlib_deflate Signed-off-by: Nikolay Borisov <nborisov@suse.com> Reviewed-by: David Sterba <dsterba@suse.com> [ add more info to changelog from mails ] Signed-off-by: David Sterba <dsterba@suse.com>

2017-06-29btrfs: fix validation of XATTR_ITEM dir itemsDavid Sterba1-8/+0
The XATTR_ITEM is a type of a directory item so we use the common validator helper. Unlike other dir items, it can have data. The way the name len validation is currently implemented does not reflect that. We'd have to adjust by the data_len when comparing the read and item limits. However, this will not work for multi-item xattr dir items. Example from tree dump of generic/337: item 7 key (257 XATTR_ITEM 751495445) itemoff 15667 itemsize 147 location key (0 UNKNOWN.0 0) type XATTR transid 8 data_len 3 name_len 11 name: user.foobar data 123 location key (0 UNKNOWN.0 0) type XATTR transid 8 data_len 6 name_len 13 name: user.WvG1c1Td data qwerty location key (0 UNKNOWN.0 0) type XATTR transid 8 data_len 5 name_len 19 name: user.J3__T_Km3dVsW_ data hello At the point of btrfs_is_name_len_valid call we don't have access to the data_len value of the 2nd and 3rd sub-item. So simple btrfs_dir_data_len(leaf, di) would always return 3, although we'd need to get 6 and 5 respectively to get the claculations right. (read_end + name_len + data_len vs item_end) We'd have to also pass data_len externally, which is not point of the name validation. The last check is supposed to test if there's at least one dir item space after the one we're processing. I don't think this is particularly useful, validation of the next item would catch that too. So the check is removed and we don't weaken the validation. Now tests btrfs/048, btrfs/053, generic/273 and generic/337 pass. Signed-off-by: David Sterba <dsterba@suse.com>
2017-06-21btrfs: Check name_len on add_inode_ref call pathSu Yue1-2/+2
replay_one_buffer first reads buffers and dispatches items accroding to the item type. In this patch, add_inode_ref handles inode_ref and inode_extref. Then add_inode_ref calls ref_get_fields and extref_get_fields to read ref/extref name for the first time. So checking name_len before reading those two is fine. add_inode_ref also calls inode_in_dir to match ref/extref in parent_dir. The call graph includes btrfs_match_dir_item_name to read dir_item name in the parent dir. Checking first dir_item is not enough. Change it to verify every dir_item while doing matches. 2017-06-21btrfs: Check name_len with boundary in verify dir_itemSu Yue1-1/+9
Originally, verify_dir_item verifies name_len of dir_item with fixed values but not item boundary. 2017-02-14btrfs: Make btrfs_ino take a struct btrfs_inodeNikolay Borisov1-1/+1
Currently btrfs_ino takes a struct inode and this causes a lot of internal btrfs functions which consume this ino to take a VFS inode, rather than btrfs' own struct btrfs_inode. In order to fix this "leak" of VFS structs into the internals of btrfs first it's necessary to eliminate all uses of struct inode for the purpose of inode. This patch does that by using BTRFS_I to convert an inode to btrfs_inode. With this problem eliminated subsequent patches will start eliminating the passing of struct inode altogether, eventually resulting in a lot cleaner code. 2014-11-20Btrfs: make xattr replace operations atomicFilipe Manana1-7/+3
Replacing a xattr consists of doing a lookup for its existing value, delete the current value from the respective leaf, release the search path and then finally insert the new value. This leaves a time window where readers (getxattr, listxattrs) won't see any value for the xattr. Xattrs are used to store ACLs, so this has security implications. This change also fixes 2 other existing issues which were: *) Deleting the old xattr value without verifying first if the new xattr will fit in the existing leaf item (in case multiple xattrs are packed in the same item due to name hash collision); *) Returning -EEXIST when the flag XATTR_CREATE is given and the xattr doesn't exist but we have have an existing item that packs muliple xattrs with the same name hash as the input xattr. 2012-12-17Btrfs: fix hash overflow handlingChris Mason1-0/+59
The handling for directory crc hash overflows was fairly obscure, split_leaf returns EOVERFLOW when we try to extend the item and that is supposed to bubble up to userland. For a while it did so, but along the way we added better handling of errors and forced the FS readonly if we hit IO errors during the directory insertion. Along the way, we started testing only for EEXIST and the EOVERFLOW case was dropped. The end result is that we may force the FS readonly if we catch a directory hash bucket overflow. This fixes a few problem spots. First I add tests for EOVERFLOW in the places where we can safely just return the error up the chain. btrfs_rename is harder though, because it tries to insert the new directory item only after it has already unlinked anything the rename was going to overwrite. Rather than adding very complex logic, I added a helper to test for the hash overflow case early while it is still safe to bail out. Snapshot and subvolume creation had a similar problem, so they are using the new helper now too. Signed-off-by: Chris Mason <chris.mason@fusionio.com> Reported-by: Pascal Junod <pascal@junod.info>

This iteration prevents most crashes but can run into lockups with the page lock on occasion when the timing "works out." Signed-off-by: Jeff Mahoney <jeffm@suse.com>

2011-08-01Btrfs: remove redundant code for dir item lookupLi Zefan1-28/+2

2011-07-11Btrfs: try to only do one btrfs_search_slot in do_setxattrJosef Bacik1-7/+2
I've been watching how many btrfs_search_slot()'s we do and I noticed that when we create a file with selinux enabled we were doing 2 each time we initialize the security context. That's because we lookup the xattr first so we can delete it if we're setting a new value to an existing xattr. But in the create case we don't have any xattrs, so it is completely useless to have the extra lookup. So re-arrange things so that we only lookup first if we specifically have XATTR_REPLACE. That way in the basic case we only do 1 search, and in the more complicated case we do the normal 2 lookups. Thanks, Signed-off-by: Josef Bacik <josef@redhat.com>

2011-05-21btrfs: implement delayed inode items operationMiao Xie1-24/+10
Changelog V5 -> V6: - Fix oom when the memory load is high, by storing the delayed nodes into the root's radix tree, and letting btrfs inodes go. Changelog V4 -> V5: - Fix the race on adding the delayed node to the inode, which is spotted by Chris Mason. - Merge Chris Mason's incremental patch into this patch. - Fix deadlock between readdir() and memory fault, which is reported by Itaru Kitayama. Changelog V3 -> V4: - Fix nested lock, which is reported by Itaru Kitayama, by updating space cache inode in time. Changelog V2 -> V3: - Fix the race between the delayed worker and the task which does delayed items balance, which is reported by Tsutomu Itoh. - Modify the patch address David Sterba's comment. - Fix the bug of the cpu recursion spinlock, reported by Chris Mason Changelog V1 -> V2: - break up the global rb-tree, use a list to manage the delayed nodes, which is created for every directory and file, and used to manage the delayed directory name index items and the delayed inode item. - introduce a worker to deal with the delayed nodes. Compare with Ext3/4, the performance of file creation and deletion on btrfs is very poor. the reason is that btrfs must do a lot of b+ tree insertions, such as inode item, directory name item, directory name index and so on. If we can do some delayed b+ tree insertion or deletion, we can improve the performance, so we made this patch which implemented delayed directory name index insertion/deletion and delayed inode update. Implementation: - introduce a delayed root object into the filesystem, that use two lists to manage the delayed nodes which are created for every file/directory. One is used to manage all the delayed nodes that have delayed items. And the other is used to manage the delayed nodes which is waiting to be dealt with by the work thread. - Every delayed node has two rb-tree, one is used to manage the directory name index which is going to be inserted into b+ tree, and the other is used to manage the directory name index which is going to be deleted from b+ tree. - introduce a worker to deal with the delayed operation. This worker is used to deal with the works of the delayed directory name index items insertion and deletion and the delayed inode update. When the delayed items is beyond the lower limit, we create works for some delayed nodes and insert them into the work queue of the worker, and then go back. When the delayed items is beyond the upper bound, we create works for all the delayed nodes that haven't been dealt with, and insert them into the work queue of the worker, and then wait for that the untreated items is below some threshold value. - When we want to insert a directory name index into b+ tree, we just add the information into the delayed inserting rb-tree. And then we check the number of the delayed items and do delayed items balance. (The balance policy is above.) - When we want to delete a directory name index from the b+ tree, we search it in the inserting rb-tree at first. If we look it up, just drop it. If not, add the key of it into the delayed deleting rb-tree. Similar to the delayed inserting rb-tree, we also check the number of the delayed items and do delayed items balance. (The same to inserting manipulation) - When we want to update the metadata of some inode, we cached the data of the inode into the delayed node. the worker will flush it into the b+ tree after dealing with the delayed insertion and deletion. - We will move the delayed node to the tail of the list after we access the delayed node, By this way, we can cache more delayed items and merge more inode updates. - If we want to commit transaction, we will deal with all the delayed node. - the delayed node will be freed when we free the btrfs inode. - Before we log the inode items, we commit all the directory name index items and the delayed inode update. I did a quick test by the benchmark tool[1] and found we can improve the performance of file creation by ~15%, and file deletion by ~20%.
