2008-03-28afs: prevent double cell registrationSven Schnelle1-2/+13
kafs doesn't check if the cell already exists - so if you do an echo "add newcell.org 1.2.3.4" >/proc/fs/afs/cells it will try to create this cell again. kobject will also complain about a double registration. 2008-02-14Embed a struct path into struct nameidata instead of nd->{dentry,mnt}Jan Blunck1-11/+11
This is the central patch of a cleanup series. In most cases there is no good reason why someone would want to use a dentry for itself. This series reflects that fact and embeds a struct path into nameidata. Together with the other patches of this series - it enforced the correct order of getting/releasing the reference count on <dentry, vfsmount> pairs - it prepares the VFS for stacking support since it is essential to have a struct path in every place where the stack can be traversed - it reduces the overall code size: without patch series: text data bss dec hex filename 5321639 858418 715768 6895825 6938d1 vmlinux with patch series: text data bss dec hex filename 5320026 858418 715768 6894212 693284 vmlinux This patch: Switch from nd->{dentry,mnt} to nd->path.{dentry,mnt} everywhere. 2008-01-28vfs: Add 64 bit i_version supportJean Noel Cordenner2-5/+7
The i_version field of the inode is changed to be a 64-bit counter that is set on every inode creation and that is incremented every time the inode data is modified (similarly to the "ctime" time-stamp). The aim is to fulfill a NFSv4 requirement for rfc3530. This first part concerns the vfs, it converts the 32-bit i_version in the generic inode to a 64-bit, a flag is added in the super block in order to check if the feature is enabled and the i_version is incremented in the vfs. 2007-10-17KEYS: Make request_key() and co fundamentally asynchronousDavid Howells1-11/+6
Make request_key() and co fundamentally asynchronous to make it easier for NFS to make use of them. There are now accessor functions that do asynchronous constructions, a wait function to wait for construction to complete, and a completion function for the key type to indicate completion of construction. Note that the construction queue is now gone. Instead, keys under construction are linked in to the appropriate keyring in advance, and that anyone encountering one must wait for it to be complete before they can use it. This is done automatically for userspace. The following auxiliary changes are also made: (1) Key type implementation stuff is split from linux/key.h into linux/key-type.h. (2) AF_RXRPC provides a way to allocate null rxrpc-type keys so that AFS does not need to call key_instantiate_and_link() directly. (3) Adjust the debugging macros so that they're -Wformat checked even if they are disabled, and make it so they can be enabled simply by defining __KDEBUG to be consistent with other code of mine. (3) Documentation. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman1-2/+3
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2007-07-31AFS: fix file lockingDavid Howells1-47/+79
Fix file locking for AFS: (*) Start the lock manager thread under a mutex to avoid a race. Fix afs_send_simple_reply() to accept a greater-than-zero return value from rxrpc_kernel_send_data() as being a successful return rather than thinking it an error and aborting the call. rxrpc_kernel_send_data() previously returned zero incorrectly when it worked successfully, but has been patched to return the number of bytes it transmitted. 2007-07-20mm: Remove slab destructors from kmem_cache_create().Paul Mundt1-2/+1
Slab destructors were no longer supported after Christoph's c59def9f222d44bb7e2f0a559f2906191a0862d7 change. They've been BUGs for both slab and slub, and slob never supported them either. This rips out support for the dtor pointer from kmem_cache_create() completely and fixes up every single callsite in the kernel (there were about 224, not including the slab allocator definitions themselves, or the documentation references). 2007-05-21Detach sched.h from mm.hAlexey Dobriyan12-0/+12
First thing mm.h does is including sched.h solely for can_do_mlock() inline function which has "current" dereference inside. By dealing with can_do_mlock() mm.h can be detached from sched.h which is good. See below, why. This patch a) removes unconditional inclusion of sched.h from mm.h b) makes can_do_mlock() normal function in mm/mlock.c c) exports can_do_mlock() to not break compilation d) adds sched.h inclusions back to files that were getting it indirectly. e) adds less bloated headers to some files (asm/signal.h, jiffies.h) that were getting them indirectly Net result is: a) mm.h users would get less code to open, read, preprocess, parse, ... if they don't need sched.h b) sched.h stops being dependency for significant number of files: on x86_64 allmodconfig touching sched.h results in recompile of 4083 files, after patch it's only 3744 (-8.3%). Following bug was uncovered by compiling with '-W' flag: CC [M] fs/afs/write.o fs/afs/write.c: In function ‘afs_write_back_from_locked_page’: fs/afs/write.c:398: warning: comparison of unsigned expression >= 0 is always true Loop variable 'n' is unsigned, so wraps around happily as far as I can see. Trival fix attached (compile tested only). 2007-05-10AFS: further write support fixesDavid Howells2-3/+3
Further fixes for AFS write support: (1) The afs_send_pages() outer loop must do an extra iteration if it ends with 'first == last' because 'last' is inclusive in the page set otherwise it fails to send the last page and complete the RxRPC op under some circumstances. (2) Similarly, the outer loop in afs_pages_written_back() must also do an extra iteration if it ends with 'first == last', otherwise it fails to clear PG_writeback on the last page under some circumstances. 2007-05-10AFS: write support fixesDavid Howells3-17/+216
AFS write support fixes: (1) Support large files using the 64-bit file access operations if available on the server. (2) Use kmap_atomic() rather than kmap() in afs_prepare_page(). (3) Don't do stuff in afs_writepage() that's done by the caller. 2007-05-09AFS: implement basic file write supportDavid Howells11-27/+1483
Implement support for writing to regular AFS files, including: (1) write (2) truncate (3) fsync, fdatasync (4) chmod, chown, chgrp, utime. AFS writeback attempts to batch writes into as chunks as large as it can manage up to the point that it writes back 65535 pages in one chunk or it meets a locked page. Furthermore, if a page has been written to using a particular key, then should another write to that page use some other key, the first write will be flushed before the second is allowed to take place. If the first write fails due to a security error, then the page will be scrapped and reread before the second write takes place. If a page is dirty and the callback on it is broken by the server, then the dirty data is not discarded (same behaviour as NFS). Shared-writable mappings are not supported by this patch. 2007-05-09AFS: AFS fixupsDavid Howells12-109/+121
Make some miscellaneous changes to the AFS filesystem: (1) Assert RCU barriers on module exit to make sure RCU has finished with callbacks in this module. (2) Correctly handle the AFS server returning a zero-length read. (3) Split out data zapping calls into one function (afs_zap_data). (4) Rename some afs_file_*() functions to afs_*() where they apply to non-regular files too. (5) Be consistent about the presentation of volume ID:vnode ID in debugging output. 2007-05-07slab allocators: Remove SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL flagChristoph Lameter1-2/+1
I have never seen a use of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL. It is only supported by SLAB. I think its purpose was to have a callback after an object has been freed to verify that the state is the constructor state again? The callback is performed before each freeing of an object. I would think that it is much easier to check the object state manually before the free. That also places the check near the code object manipulation of the object. Also the SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL callback is only performed if the kernel was compiled with SLAB debugging on. If there would be code in a constructor handling SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL then it would have to be conditional on SLAB_DEBUG otherwise it would just be dead code. But there is no such code in the kernel. I think SLUB_DEBUG_INITIAL is too problematic to make real use of, difficult to understand and there are easier ways to accomplish the same effect (i.e. add debug code before kfree). There is a related flag SLAB_CTOR_VERIFY that is frequently checked to be clear in fs inode caches. Remove the pointless checks (they would even be pointless without removeal of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL) from the fs constructors. This is the last slab flag that SLUB did not support. Remove the check for unimplemented flags from SLUB. 2007-05-07mm: make read_cache_page synchronousNick Piggin2-10/+4
Ensure pages are uptodate after returning from read_cache_page, which allows us to cut out most of the filesystem-internal PageUptodate calls. I didn't have a great look down the call chains, but this appears to fixes 7 possible use-before uptodate in hfs, 2 in hfsplus, 1 in jfs, a few in ecryptfs, 1 in jffs2, and a possible cleared data overwritten with readpage in block2mtd. All depending on whether the filler is async and/or can return with a !uptodate page.
