2024-05-02drm/panel: ili9341: Use predefined error codesdrm-misc-fixes-2024-05-02Andy Shevchenko1-2/+2
In one case the -1 is returned which is quite confusing code for the wrong device ID, in another the ret is returning instead of plain 0 that also confusing as readed may ask the possible meaning of positive codes, which are never the case there. Convert both to use explicit predefined error codes to make it clear what's going on there. 2024-05-02drm/panel: ili9341: Respect deferred probeAndy Shevchenko1-2/+2
GPIO controller might not be available when driver is being probed. There are plenty of reasons why, one of which is deferred probe. Since GPIOs are optional, return any error code we got to the upper layer, including deferred probe. With that in mind, use dev_err_probe() in order to avoid spamming the logs. 2023-07-21drm: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring1-1/+1
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2022-12-05drm/mipi-dbi: Initialize default driver functions with macroThomas Zimmermann1-4/+1
Introduce DRM_MIPI_DBI_SIMPLE_DISPLAY_PIPE_FUNCS to initialize MIPI-DBI helpers to default values and convert drivers. The prepare_fb function set by some drivers is called implicitly by simple-kms helpers, so leave it out. 2022-12-05drm/simple-kms: Remove drm_gem_simple_display_pipe_prepare_fb()Thomas Zimmermann1-1/+0
The helper drm_gem_simple_display_pipe_prepare_fb() is simple-KMS' default implementation for prepare_fb. Remove the call from drivers that set it explicitly. Then inline the helper into the only caller within simple-kms helpers. No functional changes. Simple-KMS drivers that implement the prepare_fb callback should call drm_gem_plane_helper_prepare_fb() directly. v2: * fix typo in commit message Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Reviewed-by: Noralf Trønnes <noralf@tronnes.org> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20221202125644.7917-2-tzimmermann@suse.de

2022-08-03drm/gem: rename GEM CMA helpers to GEM DMA helpersDanilo Krummrich1-3/+3
Rename "GEM CMA" helpers to "GEM DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> gem dma) calling them "GEM DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. In order to do this renaming the following script was used: ``` #!/bin/bash DIRS="drivers/gpu include/drm Documentation/gpu" REGEX_SYM_UPPER="[0-9A-Z_\-]" REGEX_SYM_LOWER="[0-9a-z_\-]" REGEX_GREP_UPPER="(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)(GEM)_CMA_(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)" REGEX_GREP_LOWER="(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)(gem)_cma_(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)" REGEX_SED_UPPER="s/${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}/\1\2_DMA_\3/g" REGEX_SED_LOWER="s/${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}/\1\2_dma_\3/g" # Find all upper case 'CMA' symbols and replace them with 'DMA'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_UPPER" $ff done # Find all lower case 'cma' symbols and replace them with 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_LOWER" $ff done # Replace all occurrences of 'CMA' / 'cma' in comments and # documentation files with 'DMA' / 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -RiHl " cma " $DIRS) do sed -i -E "s/ cma / dma /g" $ff sed -i -E "s/ CMA / DMA /g" $ff done # Rename all 'cma_obj's to 'dma_obj'. for ff in $(grep -RiHl "cma_obj" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "s/cma_obj/dma_obj/g" $ff done ``` Only a few more manual modifications were needed, e.g. reverting the following modifications in some DRM Kconfig files - select CMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS + select DMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS as well as manually picking the occurrences of 'CMA'/'cma' in comments and documentation which relate to "GEM CMA", but not "FB CMA". Also drivers/gpu/drm/Makefile was fixed up manually after renaming drm_gem_cma_helper.c to drm_gem_dma_helper.c. This patch is compile-time tested building a x86_64 kernel with `make allyesconfig && make drivers/gpu/drm`. If the optional regulator lookup fails, reset the pointer to NULL. Other functions such as mipi_dbi_poweron_reset_conditional() only do a NULL pointer check and will otherwise dereference the error pointer. 2022-02-09spi: make remove callback a void functionUwe Kleine-König1-2/+1
The value returned by an spi driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before.
