Support NewVision NV3051D panels as found on the Anbernic RG353P and RG353V. The underlying LCD part number for the RG353x devices is unknown, so the device name and a fallback for the driver IC is used instead. 2022-08-03drm/gem: rename GEM CMA helpers to GEM DMA helpersDanilo Krummrich1-1/+1
Rename "GEM CMA" helpers to "GEM DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> gem dma) calling them "GEM DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. Also drivers/gpu/drm/Makefile was fixed up manually after renaming drm_gem_cma_helper.c to drm_gem_dma_helper.c. This patch is compile-time tested building a x86_64 kernel with `make allyesconfig && make drivers/gpu/drm`. 2022-04-25drm/display: Introduce a DRM display-helper moduleThomas Zimmermann1-1/+2
Replace the DP-helper module with a display-helper module. The support for DisplayPort becomes an internal option that drivers have to select. Update all related Kconfig and Makefile rules. Besides the existing code for DisplayPort, the new module will contain helpers for other video-output standards, such as HDMI. Drivers will have to select their required video-output helpers. Linking all display-related code into a single module avoids the proliferation of small kernel modules. To avoid a resulting cyclic dependency with DRM_PANEL_BRIDGE, don't make the latter depend on DRM_KMS_HELPER and fix the one DRM bridge drivers that doesn't already select DRM_KMS_HELPER. As KMS helpers cannot be selected directly by the user, config symbols should avoid depending on it anyway. A code drop from Sony Mobile reveals that the ACX424 panels are built around the Novatek NT35560 panel controllers so just bite the bullet and rename the driver and all basic symbols so that we can modify this driver to cover any other panels also using the Novatek NT35560 display controller. Link drm_fb_cma_helper.o into drm_cma_helper.ko if CONFIG_DRM_KMS_HELPER has been set. Remove CONFIG_DRM_KMS_CMA_HELPER config option. Selecting KMS helpers and CMA will now automatically enable CMA KMS helpers. Some drivers' Kconfig files did not correctly select KMS or CMA helpers. Fix this as part of the change. It adds a DRM panel driver for Sony Tulip Truly NT35521 5.24" 1280x720 DSI panel, which can be found on Sony Xperia M4 Aqua phone. The panel backlight is managed through DSI link. The driver is built using linux-mdss-dsi-panel-driver-generator[1], and additionally modeling the 5V control GPIOs with regulators and adding Backlight GPIO support. 2021-09-20drm/panel-edp: Split eDP panels out of panel-simpleDouglas Anderson1-2/+14
The panel-simple driver handles way too much. Let's start trying to get a handle on it by splitting out the eDP panels. This patch does this: 1. Start by copying simple-panel verbatim over to a new driver, simple-panel-edp. 2. Rename "panel_simple" to "panel_edp" in the new driver. 3. Keep only panels marked with `DRM_MODE_CONNECTOR_eDP` in the new driver. Remove those panels from the old driver. 4. Remove all recent "DP AUX bus" stuff from the old driver. The DP AUX bus is only possible on DP panels. 5. Remove all DSI / MIPI related functions from the new driver. 6. Remove bus_format / bus_flags from eDP driver. These things don't seem to make any sense for eDP panels so let's stop filling in made up stuff. In the end we end up with a bunch of duplicated code for now. Future patches will try to address _some_ of this duplicated code though some of it will be unavoidable. NOTE: This may not actually move all eDP panels over to the new driver since not all panels were properly marked with `DRM_MODE_CONNECTOR_eDP`. A future patch will attempt to move wayward panels I could identify but even so there may be some missed. This display needs manufacturer commands to configure it; the commands used in this driver were taken from downstream driver by Gareth Phillips; sadly, there is almost no documentation on what they actually do. This driver re-uses the DBI infrastructure to communicate with the display. This driver is heavily based on WideChips WS2401 display controller driver by Linus Walleij and on other panel drivers for reference. The Samsung ATNA33XC20 panel is an AMOLED eDP panel that has backlight control over the DP AUX channel. This panel is _almost_ able to be controlled in a "simple" way (and it originally was implemented in panel-simple.c), but it's really impossible to get the backlight semantics right there without adding wacky special-case code to panel-simple. Let's give up and clone the parts of panel-simple that we need and implement the power sequence that this panel needs. NOTE: we'll still leave the devicetree bindings alone. This display controller is used in the Samsung LMS380KF01 display found in the Samsung GT-I8160 (Codina) mobile phone and possibly others. The display optionally supports internal backlight control, but can also use an external backlight. This driver re-uses the DBI infrastructure to communicate with the display. Right now the only panel product we know that is using this display controller is the LMS397KF04 but there may be more. The DBI "device" portions can not be used because that code assumes the use of a single regulator and specific timings around the reset pulse that do not match the DB7430 datasheet. 2021-04-20drm/panel: panel-simple: Use runtime pm to avoid excessive unprepare / prepareDouglas Anderson1-0/+1
Unpreparing and re-preparing a panel can be a really heavy operation. Panels datasheets often specify something on the order of 500ms as the delay you should insert after turning off the panel before turning it on again. In addition, turning on a panel can have delays on the order of 100ms - 200ms before the panel will assert HPD (AKA "panel ready"). The above means that we should avoid turning a panel off if we're going to turn it on again shortly. The above becomes a problem when we want to read the EDID of a panel. The way that ordering works is that userspace wants to read the EDID of the panel _before_ fully enabling it so that it can set the initial mode correctly. However, we can't read the EDID until we power it up. This leads to code that does this dance (like ps8640_bridge_get_edid()): 1. When userspace requests EDID / the panel modes (through an ioctl), we power on the panel just enough to read the EDID and then power it off. 2. Userspace then turns the panel on. There's likely not much time between step #1 and #2 and so we want to avoid powering the panel off and on again between those two steps. Let's use Runtime PM to help us. We'll move the existing prepare() and unprepare() to be runtime resume() and runtime suspend(). Now when we want to prepare() or unprepare() we just increment or decrement the refcount. We'll default to a 1 second autosuspend delay which seems sane given the typical delays we see for panels. A few notes: - It seems the existing unprepare() and prepare() are defined to be no-ops if called extra times. We'll preserve that behavior but may try to remove it in a future patch. - This is a slight change in the ABI of simple panel. If something was absolutely relying on the unprepare() to happen instantly that simply won't be the case anymore. I'm not aware of anyone relying on that behavior, but if there is someone then we'll need to figure out how to enable (or disable) this new delayed behavior selectively. - In order for this to work we now have a hard dependency on "PM". From memory this is a legit thing to assume these days and we don't have to find some fallback to keep working if someone wants to build their system without "PM". During testing, Benni Steini <bennisteinir@gmail.com> helped us fix the reset sequence timing (from 10ms to 20ms), to get the bootanimation to work on Android. With current AOSP, we need to increase it to 200ms - this seems to be a safe high value to avoid a white screen occasionally. 2020-02-29drm/panel: Add driver for Novatek NT35510-based panelsLinus Walleij1-0/+10
This adds a driver for panels based on the Novatek NT35510 display driver IC, such as the Hydis HVA40WV1 panel found in the Samsung GT-S7710. The NT35510 can be used with both internal and external backlight (such as GPIO backlight) so we support both: if no external backlight is found, we register a subdriver for the internal backlight.
