2024-06-18drm: Add DRM_MODE_TV_MODE_MONOCHROMENick Hollinghurst1-1/+4
Add this as a value for enum_drm_connector_tv_mode, represented by the string "Mono", to generate video with no colour encoding or bursts. Define it to have no pedestal (since only NTSC-M calls for a pedestal). Change default mode creation to acommodate the new tv_mode value which comprises both 525-line and 625-line formats. 2024-04-15drm: prefer DRM_MODE_FMT/ARG over drm_mode_debug_printmodeline()Jani Nikula1-8/+5
We have DRM_MODE_FMT and DRM_MODE_ARG() macros to allow unified debug printing of modes in any printk-formatted logging. Prefer them over drm_mode_debug_printmodeline(). This allows drm device specific logging of modes, in the right drm debug category, and inline with the rest of the logging instead of split to multiple lines. 2024-01-05drm: Move drm_set_preferred_mode() helper from drm_edid to drm_modesJavier Martinez Canillas1-0/+22
The helper is generic, it doesn't use the opaque EDID type struct drm_edid and is also used by drivers that only support non-probeable displays such as fixed panels. These drivers add a list of modes using drm_mode_probed_add() and then set a preferred mode using the drm_set_preferred_mode() helper. It seems more logical to have the helper definition in drm_modes.o instead of drm_edid.o, since the former contains modes helper while the latter has helpers to manage the EDID information. Since both drm_edid.o and drm_modes.o object files are built-in the drm.o object, there are no functional changes. But besides being a more logical place for this helper, it could also allow to eventually make drm_edid.o optional and not included in drm.o if only fixed panels must be supported in a given system. 2023-12-01drm/modes: replace deprecated strncpy with strscpy_padJustin Stitt1-4/+2
`strncpy` is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings [1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string interfaces. We should NUL-pad as there are full struct copies happening in places: | struct drm_mode_modeinfo umode; | | ... | struct drm_property_blob *blob; | | drm_mode_convert_to_umode(&umode, mode); | blob = drm_property_create_blob(crtc->dev, | sizeof(umode), &umode); A suitable replacement is `strscpy_pad` due to the fact that it guarantees both NUL-termination and NUL-padding on the destination buffer. Additionally, replace size macro `DRM_DISPLAY_MODE_LEN` with sizeof() to more directly tie the maximum buffer size to the destination buffer: | struct drm_display_mode { | ... | char name[DRM_DISPLAY_MODE_LEN]; Link: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/process/deprecated.html#strncpy-on-nul-terminated-strings [1] Link: https://github.com/KSPP/linux/issues/90 Cc: linux-hardening@vger.kernel.org Cc: Xu Panda <xu.panda@zte.com.cn> Signed-off-by: Justin Stitt <justinstitt@google.com> Reviewed-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20231016-strncpy-drivers-gpu-drm-drm_modes-c-v2-1-d0b60686e1c6@google.com Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org>

2023-01-13drm: Include <linux/of.h> where neededThomas Zimmermann1-2/+3
Include <linux/of.h> in source files that need it. Some of DRM's source code gets OF header via drm_crtc_helper.h and <linux/fb.h>, which can leed to unnecessary recompilation. 2022-11-24drm/modes: Properly generate a drm_display_mode from a named modeMaxime Ripard1-1/+28
The framework will get the drm_display_mode from the drm_cmdline_mode it got by parsing the video command line argument by calling drm_connector_pick_cmdline_mode(). The heavy lifting will then be done by the drm_mode_create_from_cmdline_mode() function. In the case of the named modes though, there's no real code to make that translation and we rely on the drivers to guess which actual display mode we meant. Let's modify drm_mode_create_from_cmdline_mode() to properly generate the drm_display_mode we mean when passing a named mode. 2022-11-24drm/modes: Introduce the tv_mode property as a command-line optionMaxime Ripard1-3/+34
Our new tv mode option allows to specify the TV mode from a property. 2022-11-24drm/modes: Add a function to generate analog display modesMaxime Ripard1-0/+476
Multiple drivers (meson, vc4, sun4i) define analog TV 525-lines and 625-lines modes in their drivers. Since those modes are fairly standard, and that we'll need to use them in more places in the future, it makes sense to move their definition into the core framework. However, analog display usually have fairly loose timings requirements, the only discrete parameters being the total number of lines and pixel clock frequency. Thus, we created a function that will create a display mode from the standard, the pixel frequency and the active area. 2022-11-15drm/modes: Fill drm_cmdline mode from named modesMaxime Ripard1-2/+16
The current code to deal with named modes will only set the mode name, and then it's up to drivers to try to match that name to whatever mode or configuration they see fit. The plan is to remove that need and move the named mode handling out of drivers and into the core, and only rely on modes and properties. 2022-10-10drm/modes: parse_cmdline: Add support for named modes containing dashesGeert Uytterhoeven1-0/+2
It is fairly common for named video modes to contain dashes (e.g. "tt-mid" on Atari, "dblntsc-ff" on Amiga). Currently such mode names are not recognized, as the dash is considered to be a separator between mode name and bpp. Fix this by skipping any dashes that are not followed immediately by a digit when looking for the separator. 2021-04-08treewide: Change list_sort to use const pointersSami Tolvanen1-1/+2
list_sort() internally casts the comparison function passed to it to a different type with constant struct list_head pointers, and uses this pointer to call the functions, which trips indirect call Control-Flow Integrity (CFI) checking. Instead of removing the consts, this change defines the list_cmp_func_t type and changes the comparison function types of all list_sort() callers to use const pointers, thus avoiding type mismatches. 2021-04-01drm: Refuse to create zero width/height cmdline modesVille Syrjälä1-0/+3
If the user specifies zero width/height cmdline mode i915 will blow up as the fbdev path will bypass the regular fb sanity check that would otherwise have refused to create a framebuffer with zero width/height. The reason I thought to try this is so that I can force a specific depth for fbdev without actually having to hardcode the mode on the kernel cmdline. Eg. if I pass video=0x0-8 I will get an 8bpp framebuffer at my monitor's native resolution. 2020-02-12drm/modes: Make sure to parse valid rotation value from cmdlineStephan Gerhold1-0/+7
A rotation value should have exactly one rotation angle. At the moment there is no validation for this when parsing video= parameters from the command line. This causes problems later on when we try to combine the command line rotation with the panel orientation. 2019-12-16drm/modes: parse_cmdline: Add support for specifying panel_orientation (v2)Hans de Goede1-0/+32
Sometimes we want to override a connector's panel_orientation from the kernel commandline. Either for testing and for special cases, e.g. a kiosk like setup which uses a TV mounted in portrait mode. Users can already specify a "rotate" option through a video= kernel cmdline option. But that only supports 0/180 degrees (see drm_client_modeset TODO) and only works for in kernel modeset clients, not for userspace kms users. The "panel-orientation" connector property OTOH does support 90/270 degrees as it leaves dealing with the rotation up to userspace and this does work for userspace kms clients (at least those which support this property). 2019-12-16drm/modes: parse_cmdline: Allow specifying stand-alone optionsHans de Goede1-58/+34
Some options which can be specified on the commandline, such as margin_right=..., margin_left=..., etc. are applied not only to the specified mode, but to all modes. As such it would be nice if the user can simply say e.g. video=HDMI-1:margin_right=14,margin_left=24,margin_bottom=36,margin_top=42 This commit refactors drm_mode_parse_command_line_for_connector() to add support for this, and as a nice side effect also cleans up the function a bit. 2019-12-16drm/modes: parse_cmdline: Set bpp/refresh_specified after successful parsingHans de Goede1-4/+5
drm_connector_get_cmdline_mode() calls drm_mode_parse_command_line_for_connector() with &connector->cmdline_mode as mode argument, so anything which we store in the mode arguments gets kept even if we return false. Avoid storing a possibly false-postive bpp/refresh_specified setting in connector->cmdline_mode by moving the setting of these to after successful parsing of the bpp/refresh parts of the video= argument.
